Although I don't think my situation is as bad as yours, it's a milder version of the same problem.
My flatmate gets back before I do as well and is pretty much always sitting on (the best side of) the sofa, watching TV and with his laptop on his knees. Plus I tend to do stuff in the evening (gym, art club, finishing work late, pub on occasion) but he never does. I'm sure he used to have a life and friends before he moved in, but it's as if (because my house is a nice environment - thanks to my hard work - and in a pretty good location) he's basically decided to have the laziest and easiest life possible.
To be fair, he will leave politely and quickly if I ask to have the living room to myself for a bit, but I always need to come up with an actual reason such as a Wii workout, as "...because you're basically here 100% of your waking hours and I never get to just watch TV by myself" isn't easy to say. He also goes to bed later than I do, despite having to get up earlier than me for work, so no watching TV after he's gone to bed either.
I do have a TV in my room though, so that's something. And we generally get on well and often watch DVDs in the lounge together before bedtime. I just wish it was only me on that couch once in a while!
Luckily he sleeps until about noon on weekends, so unless it's been a really late one I can enjoy some morning pottering for a while.
