See, if I was your age I would probably jump at the chance to spend some time working abroad, if there were opportunities available. A friend of mine spent five years in South Korea and two years in Vietnam teaching English - he did it because he lost his job here and was desperate, but he reckons it was the best thing he ever did. Of course the fact that he's come back with a gorgeous Korean wife probably sways his judgement on that a bit, but anyway.
It would get more problematic once you have a family to educate though I reckon, I would have thought its primarily an option for the young and unfettered. Although when Mr Y was made redundant we were considering moves to Cyprus, Dublin, New Zealand, Dubai and even West Yorkshire! Yep, even with a family, we'd have gone anywhere! Glad we didn't have to though.
