I have seen the Stranglers many many times. And I probably am that old. I'm not so keen on the new singer.

I prefer the earlier stuff, before they got all melodic and became proper musical artistes! Although I do like that stuff too.

I love the stanglers, don't think I'm the eldest (people are eldest, things are oldest) on this site (but I'm the most pedantic) but I'll claim the title if no-one else will.

I was raised on punk music, force fed it throughout my life.

I trhink I am probably the oldest (sorry, I know you're right, but it feels wrong!) - I was a punk back in the late seventies (a very young one) too, and I am always amazed at the music which gets called "punk" today. Anyone who saw Stiff Little Fingers in 1978 is going to think that Green Day would be okay to buy for your granny......! Not that I don't like Green Day, I do, especially their drummer who is amazing. But interestingly enough, the band from that era which has become my lifelong favourite, who I think are absolutely the best I have ever heard or seen, is not a punk band at all, although they were definitely spawned in that era. And that is The Jam. Paul Weller has done some horrible cheesy stuff since, but The Jam were - and are - sublime. And Bruce Foxton toured with Stiff Little Fingers in 2000, I saw them at a mini festival in Clovelly (The Stranglers were headlining!) so that was a brilliant gig for me!

paul weller is pretty much dead to me after style council's internalists album. i saw stiff little fingers when foxton was playing with them, mostly just to see him. (i had the "bruce foxton" shoes from the merc. he was flattered.)

don't get me started on green day and "punk" rock. (longview01... i'm just waiting for it.) i'm from northern california and saw green day a couple of times before they hit big. i gotta say, pre-dookie greenday was so much better than post. i also think they ceased to be a punk band sometime before warning. it's sorta funny how they keep being around the east bay scene, but not quite there. one of my friends still tries to keep in touch, and well... he's the only one who defends the punk merrits of american idiot to the death. sorry, but that record is soooo boring and not punk. then again, i'm pretty puitanical with my punk rock and figure no band that's barred from playing gilman is actually punk.

how's that for a stupid ramt? i just really hate what green day's become, but i grew up as a total lookout records groupie.

Oh Kendra, you were obviously born in the wrong decade, and definitely on the wrong continent! You'd have loved England in the late seventies.
