RussT wrote:But Top Gear is an all new approach to a motoring magazine. Who knows, maybe TOTP could come back with new features, more fun appealing to music fans in the same way Top Gear appeals to motoring fans. Let's face it there's more to pop acts etc than just the tunes ... there's a whole world to explore

Like I say that was tried to an extent with All New TOTP. With Top Gear it's a motering show can talk about any aspect of cars and motering. Although TOTP is a music show, it's specifically about tthe charts because of the name and what it is synonimous with as it's been going so long. Because of that people wont accept a show with any real tangent from the charts and the countdown and because the brand is so well established it would be too hard and risky to divert from it - hence why "all new" failed. The best thing would be to create an entirely new franchise with chart based music but different features - maybe a humerous twist ala Top Gear. Call it "World of Pop" or the catchier "Popworld" maybe...

There's already a popworld on channel 4. However as for rest of previous post I disagree. Most of Top gear's output has a tenuous link to cars at best save for when they're actualy reviewing the car in question. I don't drive have never had a lesson in my life but love top gear because of the banter and random features. Attacthing rockets to a car and hurtling it down a ski jump has nothing to do with new cars but it's funny.

If there was a new style TOTP it could feature the charts almost as an aside as top gear seems to do with the cars themselves these days and have loads of random fthings to do with songs. E.g. mini charts, top 5 songs to listen to while playing darts, or songs that you love but can't understand the words to.

I think as with top gear TOTP could be relaunched (following a lengthy break) if it was presented in more of a random way with people who actually care about music but see music as fun rather than something to be studied and carefully dicected (Late night with jools holland take note)

I think a random music style approach would work but intersperse it with people talking about the music as they would down the pub, not i some documentary film class.

Dear MR BBC my services are available for hire, please send a blank cheque and I'll get back to you.

Random music features i.e. top 5 songs that make you think of blu-tak suggestions please. New T.V. Production company coming soon with a lot of help...

So, Andy, what you're suggesting is that we strap rockets to Mariah Carey and throw her down a Ski jump...

Mm.. I'm liking the sound of this.. tell me more. ;)

Well for starters I'd quite like to see Pink or Gwen Stefani in a battle against one of those big robots from Robot Wars, the one with the flame thrower would be fun.

Every week they interview the "next great band" and rather than see how fast they can drive round a track, see how fast they can fade into utter obscurity. Ladies and Gentlemen the Darkness...

Or combine it with other shows, How about Pimp my Popstar where we dose up Brittney Spears and dump her around Kings Cross (insert applicable local red light district for your area) at midnight and see how much money we can get by making her really be a slave for us...

I expect a letter from ms Spears solicitors in the morning...

I'd advise that some of you get outside and go for a walk. Stop watching TV so much then you wouldn't get so attached when trivial TV programmes stop being shown. Just because something has been around for a while doesn't mean it has to stay. Get over it and start worrying about some important things like your health and family.

Alexa? She was doing the TV bits at the Wireless festival this week and her script-writer (presuming she had one) needs sacking, her jokes were awful.

Andy, my friend, that is PURE GENIUS. I get the feeling that Pink would MASH any robot, though.. She's a scary woman.

I think you're on to a winner. There's a possibility it could end up being It's a Celebrity Knockout though... Mmm..

I'd like to see Madonna trying to sing while being pelted with water balloons. :)

They were gonna rebrand it Top of the Kops and set it at Anfield Stadium, but they ditched that idea.

Yeah, and they could have a spin-off where Reggie goes to clean said toilets and call it Top of the Mops.

With show ideas and new names, you and Quincy should become TV Producers!
