Well it looks like the party is over for Chris Moyle’s (CM). Did anyone hear his rant regarding comments made on this site? I have just read them and I did not see anything that was not justified, in fact I thought them to be quite mild. Obviously the comments touched a nerve, perhaps just a little bit too close to the truth for comfort. I believe that CM’s insecurities lie far deeper than being unable to accept justified criticism. CM knows the game is nearly up. His repeated statements of increased listener figures will not ensure all people believe this to be true. We are market savvy and know the formula and calculations used in gaining these figures is at best guess work.
CM stated listeners did not get “Celebrity Tarzan” as it was a parody of local radio competitions. I just cannot understand why CM believes that to parody local radio stations is still amusing. Mark and Lard did this fantastically. Local and commercial radio does not have the financial support of the BBC. The BBC must have spent thousands of pounds advertising the CM show. Placing TV adverts in prime spots and bill boarding all over the country. CM still aligns his show in competition with commercial radio which in truth is like McDonalds worrying about the “Gut Busting Burger Van” just of the A14. CM must realise his parodies are sounding very much like copying – which he did for months, much to the amusement of a late night talk show DJ being Ian Collins. CM copied – (Sorry, parodied) – this show for quite some time and would obviously be denied by CM, but I listened to both shows and heard it myself.
During his rant CM also said that if listeners did not like the show then turn off. But it’s not as easy as that. CM is paid via the license fee and has a responsibility to entertain. This is an arrogance that will not provide favours in the future and CM should be aware of this. Listeners need to care about the DJ and what happens to them outside of the studio and other projects completed. Constructed outings for something to talk about the next day are becoming transparent. He even ruined his Brits interviews in always wanting to be the star. This is probably a parody that we did not get. The Madonna interview was such let down after a huge build up. What CM meant to have said during the build up was - I am swearing in front of Madonna - Listen how * I am in front of Madonna – I just don’t care?
Where will he go from here? CM has tried TV but comes across as amateur and has no endearing qualities. CM can’t be spontaneous with his comedy and wit (Did you see Never mind the Buzzcocks) and relies too much on others for impromptu laughs. It’s all down hill from here.
One more thing. Self declaration of being surreal is quite simply another way of saying “I’m mad I am”. The CM show is not surreal. It’s just a little bit similar to his other shows from 10 years ago.
My email address is mailto:chrismoylesisshit@yahoo.co.uk and would appreciate comments which I will collate and send to CM.
