A Fujifilm FinePix S2995. A bridge camera, cracking value for money, very user-friendly and practical. I've already got a Canon 600D which obviously takes better quality photos, but this one is easier to get to know and therefore easier to get the best out of in terms of taking good photos with. I do live music photography as a hobby so a camera I can get to know inside out is important. Also it's similar enough to the Canon that I can use this camera as a guide to familiarise myself more with that one too.

Sony NEX-5 with an 18 - 55mm lens. Mirrorless system. I LOVE it. Layabout Yudster (who I shouldn't really call Layabout any more as he is now a freelance photographer running his own little business) reckons its the bollocks. I chose it primarily because I wanted somethig that would take good fast action sports shots indoors without flash, and all the reviews flagged that it performed particularly well in low light situations. It does.

That sounds like a brilliant combination of what's affordable and what's bloody good. 18-55mm lenses and Sony compact cameras are both tremendously diverse in what types of photos they can take, and still get professional-looking results. Apart from by buying a stupidly expensive DSLR and lens, I don't see any way how that combo could be bettered.

Having a photography business is where I'd like to go eventually, but I'm looking to build up an extensive portfolio of(hopefully) good photos before I try that, so at the moment it's basically still a hobby.

Only Spain - off to go meet an old school friend (who made it big and moved to Spain - he has now started family out there so figure I best go meet him/his new family) for a few days near Gibraltar, then going across southern Spain to ride my motorbike on circuit for a few days. Yeah!

I don't know why he refused to give evidence to Leveson - it's been a good Inquiry thus far and Lord Leveson has shown himself to be very fair. I have high hopes for the conclusion of it... I have less high hopes that the recommendations will be followed through though.
