The Gallagher brothers. Primarily because their opinions on things are somehow making it into the media...and I'm supposed to care.

Yeah that's how I know. Saw a link to an article of theirs on Twitter earlier about one of their opinions' on the iPhone...riveting stuff.

Phew, I thought this might have been reeking of desperation but reading it back I think you may have got away with...

Nope, more desperate than you at closing time at the clubs.

Sarky posts from people who can't manage to wait a week for a sound request. Cos you know, Ben and I don't have jobs or studies or lives to get on with, we only exist to be at the beck and call of this site. Grr.

I think today I'm somewhere inbetween the happy/sad topics. An old flame is planning to propose to his gf and has just sent me a pic of the ring that he bought at the weekend. I'm really happy for him, but I also feel kinda melancholy about it.

all these 'if a poppy offends you, f*ck off" photos popping up on facebook.

has there actually been anything to provoke this reaction, or is it more xenophobia masked as patriotism over whispers in the pub?

Yet another reason not to be on Facebook.

I've never seen anything abusive on Twitter - but then I don't follow anyone unless I have a reason to and I don't let randoms follow me.

Anyway, annoying me is that my computer has died. Its been on its last legs for over a year but Mr Yudster has been keeping it alive with his tecnological alchemy - but even his genius has its limits. Bollocks bugger and bum.

Always rely on your chip to shine mate!

People can always have an opinion without it being xenephobia.

It would be wrong if poundland, m&s etc banned staff from wearing poppies, I don't know if they have, I am sure the mail will say they have, if they have then the mail sorts will be up in arms about it, and rightly so in my opinion, up to a point, extremism of any sort is not the answer.

Your reaction is as much perpertuating the Mails cause as the people who are posting on facebook, in my opinion.

Can't we just all accept that some people over react, have no sence to try and establish facts rather than a reporters headline, and that if it were all true that H&S stops kids playing conkers, people wearing poppies, and Illigeal immigrants are somehow provided with a lavish lifestyle and pandered to there every extemist viewpoint, then surely wouldn't we all be up in arms, it's not xenophobia it's just stupidity on there part in believing the tripe the Mail, BBC & the like trot out as news now a days.

But here, the public reaction to a story about a HR manager somewhere incorrectly classifying a poppy as a political statement (as FIFA have done with their poppy refusal) has led to a direct reaction of 'leave the country if you don't like it' or more to the point, this is the image i've seen doing the rounds and getting a lot of positive feedback.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 7417_n.jpg

As far as I can tell, there's been no other notable stories within the last 2-3 weeks relating to someone being 'offended' by a poppy. The immediate reaction isn't one of seeking pride from the symbol of the poppy, it's one that creates an 'us and them' culture. Which unites, but by using negative energy as opposed to positive.

It's the kind of shit that stories such as 'Winterval' were bourne out of, and people seem to be quick to jump on board - it annoys the hell out of me, because people get sucked into throwing their weight behind ideologies and social ideas which they can't see, and probably don't believe in.

check the quick search link i posted, and then tell me it's not something which is encouraging xenophobic statements.
