Today... it's trying to get to work, got to train station only to discover the trains are screwed up because of a derailment. ffs.

Tubes. Tubes of things are annoying me. Specifically when you have a tube of something - let's say for the sake of argument, toothpaste - and to all intents and purposes, you have every reason to believe it is at least half full. No problem, you have LOADS of toothpaste there, definitely not one for the shopping list today. Then you go to clean your teeth. You pick up the more than half full tube of toothpaste, give it a squeeze - and a tiny bit of toothpaste pops out followed by a massive air bubble which, once its gone, leaves the tube flat, compressed and pretty much empty.

I hate bloody tubes of things.

Luckily, I realised this problem at 6pm on Wednesday evening so was prepared for the mess on Thursday. I was able to get the mainline train from Glasgow to Edinburgh - i've missed the comedy that train provides. Those on my facebook will know of the amusement it provides.

Those pictures look like a real-estate agent's portfolio on a property. Tim, unless you have visited him there, I think its probable that he is yanking your chain.

Oh believe me, he isn't. As I say, they've recently moved him to there as the rental on previous property expired and owner wanted to sell. One of my other mates has visited him out there at the old place - which has a better pool, but wasn't as nice a house as this one.

This. Not the aim of the petition, oh no - the aim is spot on. It's the fact that it's necessary in 2011 to have this debate. People really want to drag us back to the dark ages? Words honestly fail me.

The problem is that there are a LOT of people out there with just as much right to have their opinion upheld as you do who, for whatever reason, really think it would be a good move. Its not just a cranky few right wing reactionaries, there has always been a lot of support for capital punishment. And the more our judicial system in this country is seen to fail to deal with serious crime and serious criminals, the more people are going to call for a swin in the opposite direction to the perceived lenient system we have today.

I agree with you Topher, 100%, but treating this campaign as an irritating but minor blip will be dangerous. There are definitely a lot of people - normal people, ordinary people (not all Daily Mail readers either) who would support it. Rather than just saying "you're wrong" there needs to be a proper answer to the arguments, one based on something other than emotion (which is after all the driving force behind the "pro" lobby).

I don't do petitions but when I can find that one (the link isn't working for me at the moment) I will sign it. Its a start.

I know and I'm totally in support of freedom of speech, it just amazes me that people still see that as a reasonable punishment. Quite aside from the moral issues of killing criminals, if ONE person - just one - was executed innocently as a result of bringing back capital punishment, that makes the whole thing inexcusable in my opinion. And these things do happen and have happened.

Thank God you've swung this back onto a more serious subject, Ben. Yuds and Toph were spouting some right irrelevant tripe there. Phew.
