You know when you have something important on ya mind (personal - not for forum posting) which stops you achieving much else as you can't focus your mind...? One of those days.... :(

I do know. You have my sympathy. Would you be better off going home, or will that just give you more brooding time?

Looks like today is gonna be a quiet day anyway, which will usually result in an 'early bath' later. And its perhaps not helping the situation, leaving the mind to wander a little....

Well, had my hospital appointment today following my MRI scan, and it didn't go great. The diagnosis is moderate arthritis, which I already suspected, but the bad news is that the only real treatment is a hip replacement, and they won't do that yet as I'm so young and it would wear out too quickly. So my prescription for the next 10yrs or so is essentially lose weight, try to exercise despite the pain, take paracetomol, and basically just man up and cope. Not really what I wanted to hear.

Power going off today then being told it will be going off again til they fix the problem. Doesn't help me when i have to get ready tomorrow to go to a funeral. So seriously p*ssed off.

Highly paid professionals such as pilots working for Virgin Atlantic deciding to interrupt the public service they offer because they want more money. You can't act like that in the 'current climate'/when you have a Conservative government. Inconveniencing the general public over selfish gain is just childish.

They should be sacked, put on Job Seekers Allowance and try and get a 4% raise on that.

@NicolaRed - That's awful; I'm very sorry. Uhm, one of my relatives who had joint problems swore by doing all his exercise in water - he said it took off a lot of the pressure. I don't know whether what he had is anything like what you've been diagnosed, but if you have to exercise despite being in pain maybe it would be softer on you? Than needing to be in a lot of pain doing running/aerobics/and all that. Sorry if I'm being insensitive, by the way...

Nah, course you're not, thanks :)

The exercise thing is complicated - the advice is to avoid walking and running as they are bound to exacerbate the pain (which is gutting to me as I used to love running), but at the same time you are supposed to exercise as much as you can manage, both to keep your weight down and cos you can't actually cause any further joint deterioration by exercise. And whilst I'm not obese, there's no denying I could do to shift a bit. So I am gonna start swimming, which my consultant recommended, and maybe try a gym - I'm limited in what I can do in terms of gym equipment, but I am gonna give it a go. It's all a bit depressing as I am only 36, but I'm trying to be positive!

It's one of them. Well, it's a symptom of the annoyance of 'being in pain most of the time'.

Meh, sometimes. But sometimes the pain is too distracting. That's the joy of arthritis - some days it's fine, others it's agony, and there's no real way of predicting which are gonna be which.
