Truth is, I need a break from it, can anyone recommend a place to go (In the UK or Europe) for a long weekend just to get away from bloody London for several days (it must be getting to me at the mo, I never dislike London)

I know the feeling? We could always swap? Come to Norfolk as I'm heading to London at the weekend, guess where too - Romford!! :-s!

Well we're looking into the Lake District for our Honeymoon, that's a stunning place and not too expensive, how about there?

The problem with anywhere rural in the UK now is finding accommodation this late in the season, especially this year with everyone not wanting to spend the money to go abroad (even though its often cheaper than the UK....). You'd probably be ok with a city-break, but that doesn't sound like what you are after at all.

That being said, Northumberland is stunning and I believe that they have more difficulty atttracting visitors than some areas - you could try there? Have a hike along Hadrian's Wall!

True - its a pretty one, and if being in a city is too much to bear it's never far to somewhere stunning and rural from there.

Herefordshire is another under-visited area which is very nice. Although i do seem to be going for the places with boundaries separating England from somewhere else - first Hadrian's Wall, now Offa's Dyke...........

Ah, I liked York, I haven't been there for a good 10 years though. Robin Hood's Bay sort of closeish to there and is nice.

If you're looking for a European option, the Paris is an easy reach from London. A city though, obviously. A lot of people I know say they wouldn't go to Paris if you paid them, but I love it. As with most cities, it helps if you know the right areas.

I went once on a school trip for a few days, I'd love to go back as an adult and really see the places.

Isn't Romford technically Essex?

Romford is in the London Borough of Havering, so whilst it is in Essex postally, administratively it is in London.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Jocky all I can say is good luck, today near where I live (Ilford) there was a serious assault where a man was hospitalised & even tonight at 6:40pm the Police still had the area cordoned off.

Ilford used to be such a nice town, the Youth of today have such a shit attitude (and I'm only 25)
