Its not primarily taking a swipe at working mothers (although that's in there), its actually more to do with the total lack of representation of traditional family life on CBeebies. And actually, I agree. I'm not suggesting that they should stop showing the programmes they do show, but the reality is that there isn't anything in the CBeebies programming which a child with a mother who stays at home with him can directly relate to. And as this writer (I forget her name already) pointed out, the BBC website programme guides also completely ignore that scenario, stating in several places that the single working parent and childminder/nursery scenario represented in so many of their programmes is designed for "all pre-school children" to recognise and relate to. What about the kids with a mum who stays at home and a dad who goes to work? Its still by far the most common scenario - where are the programmes depicting them?

Of course I don't care, I worked full time until Joel started school and he was in nursery pretty much full time from the age of 6 months.....!

Anyway, good points that you have raised, the tone of the article to me puts the point across that nurseries are terrible, awful places - and even raises the dreadful story in Plymouth as a case in point, which while being awful, is (in my opinion) more than likely to be an isolated case and not one that can be used as a reliable example.. to me that's a bit like saying you shouldn't go to your doctor in case he's another Shipman. The other allegation seems to be that the BBC is a propaganda machine for the Government, which I find quite ridiculous.

Yea, a mistake in a piece of my work made it to print despite 4 people signing it off.
It pisses me off, I've been working on this project for 9 months and now it needs a reprint because 4 * people who's responsibility it was to scrutinize it for mistakes didn't do a good enough job.

Well. I made the mistake initially but I always rely on the people above me to make sure the facts and figures are correct because I don't have a clue. It was a simple error - one load of measurements but the same numbers shown elsewhere weren't changed. The four people I sent it to for 'sign off' didn't spot the mistake. I'm just really annoyed and frustrated with my self. Bollocks.

Sadly the recession is bringing out the worst in some people. The longer it goes on the more I'm hearing similar stories to yours. Pay freezes while simultaneously being asked to do more work than previously. And this is in places that actually seem to increase profit (not just turnover).

I know, it's happening everywhere at present.

What makes it worse is that we've now lost 3/4 of our office & still those of us are under threat from redundancy. This all started back in late November 08 & to me it just seems like their dragging out the redundancy of everyone from our local office. We were supposed to have moved to smaller premises in June, now we're been told * September. It's just so frustrating, especially when you get emails from head office saying "well done for a great quarter, despite the recession" and then a week later someone else is up for the chop
