Yeah, we still have Jolly Ranchers. They're yummy. The only problem with them is they're so hard and awkwardly shaped.

Couldn't agree more. I'm no bleeding heart but so many manufacturers of pretty much everything have proved for years now that animal testing is unneccessary and produces less useful data than newer methods - why the hell is anyone still doing it? (By the way I'm not talking about medicine - I applaud the reduction of animal testing in medical research and hope it continues, but I'm not about to argue that it should be stopped completely. Not yet anyway).

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for animal testing in medical research, something to do with my Grandad being extremely ill when he was born. So I'm all for it until they do find something more suitable, but yeah - anything other than medical is wrong, especially for a masssive, massive corporation like Proctor and Gamble, who should be setting the benchmark for corporate responsibility really.

I agree with you Topher, in an ideal world we wouldn't have to rely on animal testing for Medical purposes but unfortunately we do at present. However animal testing for make-up, etc. is just barbaric.

The writer's comparing apples with oranges. If they're killed by police then they're filthy stinking immigrants, because the poice force is a wonderful institution with hard-working staff protecting us from the scum of society. If they're killed by drug addicts then they're brilliant guests felled by the scum of society who the wonderful police work so hard to protect us from.

They set the agenda by the perpetrators, they couldn't give a toss about the victims either way. To be fair, the writer nearly gets there towards the end of the piece, he's just missing the final bit.

I believe the number of lawsuits against the drug manufacturers are contributing to the decline of animals in medical research, more than any other factor. Turns out we're not so much like rats and mice. Go figure.

There's no doubt that a lot of medical vivisection was very questionable. Some of the research has been crucial though. I wouldn't like to think how long it would have taken them to find a way to control diabetes without the work on dogs, and we'd be waaaay behind where we are now on many forms of cancer without a lot of animal testing. I do agree though, there is probably still too much of it, and I'm glad that better research methods are becoming the norm.

People who actually need the Mail or LittleJohn to provide them with a moral stance are the real worry.

Well, things just keep getting better and better. The husband was parked at a friend's house and some drunken * came round the corner, slammed it and rolled it. The Jeep is totaled. The asshole driver then took off driving but his car was thrashed and stalled down the road so he got out and ran away. I'm out a $1,000 deductible for the insurance and the husband won't have a car now. Even though the police know the car's owner, the fellow can always say his car was 'stolen' and needless to say, they can't catch him for driving under the influence because HE * RAN AWAY!!!!! Wow. My life is so funny! I can't wait until Friday when my eldest son graduates high school. I'm sure I'll be a right barrel of laughs from then on. I'd ask what ellsee cam go wrong butim afraidto!!!!!!!!!!11 :( i thmk i'm goimg to dig a hole and bury muself. who's got a shovel?

The fascists will always be among us - they always have been and always will be. The only reason they are noticeable at the moment is not because their support has increased, but because our reliance on mainstream political parties to actually do their jobs has been fatally eroded, leaving people pissed off enough not to bother to go to the polls. Totally understandable, but its crucial that this should be realised.

Another thing annoying me is the success of UKIP - again, scratch the surface of their policies and membership and you will find a very thinly disguised National Front type ethos, but somehow they seem to have managed to develop a veneer of respectability that they do not in the least deserve. In many ways I think they pose a far greater threat than the BNP because of this apparent legitimacy.

I'd always assumed that UKIP were just strongly against being in the EU. I don't agree with that at all, but I can't see how that's as bad as the BNP.
