It seems, according to Reports, that helium is running out! Oh no!

What would you hate to see run out?

Viv, is that where you get all your thread ideas from? Just copy them from UM? It would explain some things, definitely!

The really scary thing is that the post which started the UM thread, which was almost word for word exactly what Viv wrote, was by Jono. Some of the implications there are horrifying.

helium is a vital resource for welding. they need to come up with a new technique for welding without it.

that's the point. it allows for the spark to make the metal combust in a controlled way, rather than all over the place.

Helium is also used in Blimps, which is one of my favourite words of all time. Blimp!

As a side, and mostly unrelated point, is the nucleus of a helium atom an alpha particle? It's something I was thinking about the other day (but obviously couldn't be bothered to look up).
