Yesterday, I was "over the road" (so to speak) tuned in to Radio 2.... I ran straight into a discussion about "tagging" for old people with dementia!! Basically so that their families could know where they are!! Is this not one step too far, or what? Can people not just visit their mums and dads any longer???

First of all I know nothing about the story, but I would imagine that it uses the same technology as the police do to keep an eye on the worst cases who could end up getting lost on their own. If anything, it could lead to them having a bit more freedom of where they go with the people who care for them safe in the knowledge that should anything happen, they can still find their folks?

well, I would rather that my mum was allowed to wander to the shops so that she could forget why she went rather than her forgetting why she isn't allowed to leave the house / care home.

If this applied to me (my parents are in their mid 50s and probably more on the ball than I am half the time), I'd have no objection to them being 'tagged'. If it's a choice between that and them ending up lost somewhere with no idea how they got there and how to get back home, I'll take the tag.

I think I agree with you Nicola, but I can totally understand Viv's reaction, at first glance it just seems so terrible!
