After nearly 36 years the BBC aired it's final ever Open University programme today because of DVDs and the internet. Even though I never watched it I think it's a tragedy that it's gone, it was an institution. Weekend mornings will never be the same again on BBC Two.

Well for you they will as you never watched it.[/quote]

I know, but I wish I had got into it properly after hearing about their demise.

It was only ever there to serve the educational purpose - now that is being served by other means, it makes no sense to contiune it just for the sake of tradition or something. Do you mourne the passing of typewriters and and cassette players as well?

Typewriters forced people to take care and spell correctly.

And Cassettes were ace. Far less complications.

This is like when England won the Rugby world cup, no cared before and everyone was suddenly an England Rugby fan afterwards.

Actually, you might be right. I take care to spell and punctuate, but that is probably because I learned on a typewriter rather than a PC. But I would hate to have to use one now. And cassettes - no, sorry. Terrible things.

What about when TV during the Day had the test card, and programs for Schools, do you remember "the way we used to live" I loved that, and to this day have an enduring interest in the War and History in general.

Now we have Jeremy Keyle I believe ?

Progress..... it's a funny thing
