The death sentence of any kind is fundamentally wrong in all situations; no one should have the power of life and death over another human being, be it a criminal or the state, it's completely immoral.

I do, however, support tougher sentencing than we've already got.

The punishment should fit the crime, rape = castration, armed robbery = shot in the leg, burglary = something taken of yours (TV), GBH = punched in the face, speeding = trade your car in for a bike, stealing a policeman's hat and wearing it = have him wear your hat for a while.

It's a tit for tat system, that I think you'll find might just work.

One thing that does annoy me is the punishment system isnt there too punish the criminal, but to appease the middle classes.
Short-sighted middle class fools (I think Catherine Tates 'the dirty stinking b'stards' sketch is synonymous with that type) that demand prison sentences, interlinked with the soft headed liberals who say that they do have a right to a sky+ system in their cell, and to have a fully functioning Gym, (this allows them to get in shape, therefore allowing them to cause more pain AND run from the police faster) have done more harm than good!

The time to review the policies on crime using intelligence has been with us for too long.

Ok well ill take it back. but the justice system is definatley to weak. And needs a masive overhaul.

It is so easy to joke or give opinions, but if one of my children or a member of my family was brutally murdered, which seems to be happening in Britain on a weekly basis now, then for me It's a life for a life. There are times when someone dies,where it happens through drink or drugs, or tempers, but, when someone goes out to coldheartedly take a life, deliberately and with forththought, then they do not deserve to breath or live on this earth after they have been tried and found guilty. Our prisons are now overcrowded. Something drastic has to be done soon, and a decision made, maybe then, people who set out to take a life, might have the stark knowledge, that THEY WILL NOT have a prison cell, 3 nice meals a day, TV, keep fit, or whatever else our taxes pay for, they know that there life will quickly come to an end, if they themselves have taken someone else's life.

An 'eye for an eye' society is definitely the wrong way to go in my opinion.

I do believe that all violent crime should carry a minimum 10 year sentence and the niceties should be taken out of prisons; it has, after all, got to be used as a deterrent as much as anything else.
