We don't really get fire drills here, which is a shame because there's a nice pub right over the road that would serve as a good "meeting point".

I have a fire drill about twice a week about 3.30 pm at the First & Last Inn.
They last about 2 hours.

They are essential to keep the relevant authorities happy.

It's a good job the alarm didn't go off 5 minutes later, I was on my way to the bog for a bowel extraction. I would have been wiping for dear life.

We have fire alarms here (University Halls of Residence) several times a week. The guy who lives next door to me has a habit of setting it off - that or people from other Halls set the alarm off then run away. I'm not so bothered if it is during the daytime or evening, but when they go off while I am in bed, I'm not impressed. I generally do take my phone with me, and sometimes text people, just because I'm bored and not happy about being up at 3am outside in the rain.

Half the people I live with don't even make it outside for most of the fire alarms, because they're either too drunk to move/wake up or take the view "I can't see a fire, so I'll stay here".

At work a couple of months ago, this stupid little brat broke the glass on one of the alarm things and pretty much the whole supermarket had to get evacuated. I've never seen a mother so angry at her child, it was brilliant.

I was going to say there's nothing worse than a "mid bowel extraction alarm", but I experienced a fire alarm (with subsequent real fire) at university whilst practicing some horizontal jogging with a member of the opposite sex. We had to desist in our activities mid-session and stand outside in the freezing cold clad in just a dressing gown, with an increasing sense of frustration and dissatisfaction......... oh and a strategically placed jumper held at waist height.

Typical example of the kind of students I loathed while I was at uni.

"Ooh we're away from mummy and daddy for the first time so i'm gonna dye my hair, set fire alarms off, and goto ASDA at 4am, i'm SOOOOOOO crazy!!!!"

Die. Die now.

"So right on!"

I'm glad I'm not one anymore, I hate students now, especially all of the wanky emo twats at Edinburgh College of Art.

Students. I remember that. Isn't that rooms that stink, jonny wrappers on the floor, dried up plate of food under the bed, shi*ty soup and beans in the cupboard and listening to tripe like blink 182 and all that?

Everyone is on the verge of bludgeoning my neighbour (Paul) to death with the nearest heavy object. None of the "break glass here" things in our block have glass in them anymore because he's broken them. He comes in at 3am nearly every night and yells and yells and throws bottles at the wall and bangs on all our doors yelling "wake up!!!" for no reason. I think sooner or later we will all get so fed up that we grab the fire extinguishers (he's already broken a few of them) and bash him with them until he shuts up.

Ah, the joys of student life...... apparently we get charged £60 each time the fire alarm is set off, and £40 per fire extinguisher.

BFB, if the firebrigade take 4 minutes to respond to the Alarm surely you had time to finish the job ?

fire alarms are annoying. i used to live in a student co-op house with 150 others, and there was a short in the fire alarm system so that it would go off without provocation. the campus fire department hated us because they always had to come check out false alarms. of course the one time the house was actually on fire they were slow to respond (nevermind that most people didn't want to leave the house at 4:00am because they thought it was a hoax). we had to flag down a cop to call in that it was a real fire. it took them 15 minutes to respond! gah! luckily no one was hurt, though a few rooms were destroyed.

we don't get fire drills at work often. when we do, i help schedule them since i'm on the safety committee. they're dull.

I think it may be time to post a thread extolling the virtues of the lost art of The Quickie. A much underrated pas(a little)time.

Mrs Boboff enjoys a quick one in the Morning, and a longer one in the evening, I don't have to kiss her in the morning either, but can't roll over and go to sleep.

BFB do your worst !
