If it's just the one file (and it's off a reasonable size) then you can send it to me and I'll convert it for you. I would explain how to do it, but my method would be hard to replicate on a windows box. There are probably windows programs out there that can do it very easily, but I don't know what they are.

Or, if the file is in your iTunes library, click on it once, and then go the the top menu, Advanced >> Convert to .XXX

If this is not .mp3 and actually .wav or .AAC then you need to change your preferences by clicking "Ctrl + ," or "Apple + ,", then click Advanced >> Importing and then change the "Import using" to mp3 encoder.

This is the problem i have!
Thanks to Sebi and Fowler for your help, i have tried this but a box comes up and says that protected files cannot be converted.
Console, if i could send it to you that would be great, it is only one song that i need.

If it's an encrypted DRM'd track (does FairPlay encrypt them?) then I may not be able to do it, but I'll give it a whack.

An alternative would be to burn it to a CD (or a pseudo CD) and then rip it off that, as I think the FairPlay DRM allows burning to CD.
