Next month myself and my other half have been together two years (well it's a lot for us) and I want to take her out to the West End for a show.

Being an uncultured bastard and never having been to the theatre for anything other than panto and some play in Milton Keynes that my aunt was in, I was wondering what people would go for.

I'm sort of swaying towards either Chicago (Cambridge Theatre) or Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty's Theatre).

Any ideas?

Cheers...

I don't think you could go far wrong with Chicago.........but the best thing I've seen in the last few years, for sheer spectactle and impact, was The Lion King. But that might not have the right kind of ambiance for such an occasion?

It is on it's way by the way - I'm so sorry I keep forgetting - I'm terrible at this - don't ever agree to do something like that with me again!

London is really hard to get anywhere, so hope you've got plenty of time to book/plan.

Hope you have a nice time, whatever you decided to do. :)

If you must see a musical, Chicago is one of the better ones of a bad bunch. But really they're all pure cheese. If you want some proper theatre, The History Boys and The Cut are both excellent.

You've got to be kidding, London is really easy to get around, one of the best public transport systems in the country, if not the world.

Even if you wanna get around on foot, you can pick up a cheap A-Z of central london that'll get you from A to B and they list things like theatres and stuff.

Correct - London is extremely easy to get round, even for a moron like myself with no sense of direction.

I'm so glad you posted that Andy B, when I saw what Adam had said I couldn't believe it, London is really easy to get around - only don't trust the busses unless you know exactly where you need to get off, because the drivers are dead unhelpful if you don't know where you are. But if you stick to the tube its easy, and there really isn't anywhere you can't get to - and to be honest, when I am in London, I tend to walk pretty much everywhere!

ANyway, I wanted someone else to say it before I did, because Adam must think I have some kind of campaign to make him cry going or something, I keep on contradicting his posts. See Adam, its not just me.

Andy B - what I mean, is its hard to get tickets in places. I worded it wrong. I totally agree thats it easy to travel around London (get your oystercard by the way, it helps) As for tickets - its a whole kettle of fish

I'm ignoring you too Adam, in order to say that in the light of your clarification of your original post, I have a certain amount of agr.....ag.....agre.......AGREEMENT! There, I said it. I agree with you Adam, it can be stupid getting tickets, and be very very careful about buying online, because its not unheard of to end up with fake tickets, or no tickets, and a very empty bank account.

Adam Adam Adam Adam Adam Adam. See, it just makes me do it more.
