Precisely, and they've each got something to have the piss taken out of them for, Carrie for being Posh, Rachel for being a Yam Yam which is an endless source of amusement and never tires. Aled for being camper than a boy scout jamboree, Dave for being slow on the uptake of most things, Dom for being a slaphead (and being the eldest) and Chris for being fat and rich....

BTW I urge you to read the Blogs on the Moyles site, there's one from Dom pretending to be Carrie and it's hillarious.

Ha! I seem to say it every other post but Dom is a genius, full stop.

Well thats complete crap for a start. The show at the moment is lazy. I hate to criticise it so much when I've spent pretty much the last six years of my life praising it, but theres no spark. Same (poor) features, same structure, same team, same old, same old.

Carrie and Rachel add nothing, Dave is plodding along and Chris is in the comfort zone. Maybe it needs the figures to drop significantly at the next RAJAR to give them a kick up the backside.

Whilst I can't speak for you personally, I fear many people are looking at the past through rose tinted glasses. As I've often said, the past always looks better in hind sight.

Also now he's on breakfast he can't get away with some of the stuff he used to do when on afternoons or Early Breakfast. I know from experience that the more people you play to the more generical and middle of the road it has to sound. He can still be controversial as he often is but he can't do the more random stuff that many of us loved. I myself have always said that Viaduct is my favorite of all his features but as has been pointed out before it wouldn't work on breakfast.

The structure has to remain fairly rigid as at breakfast people expect to hear certain things at certai times because they're usually listening whilst doing something else. I don't think chris has any input over the team other than Dave and possibly Aled. Rachel isn't as funny as Lizzie or Will but i've already said you need someone to keep chris in check who is sensible and not gonna get sidetracked. As For Carrie there aren't many other Female sports news readers on Radio 1 (I don't know this for certain, it's a guess) and the show needs more womanly input in whatever form it has to be to stop the show degenerating into mindless bloke chat re. Chris Evans.

Maybe a Rajar sweep would change things but change for change's sake is not neccasarily a change for the better.

Forgive the long post.

I think the difference here is that you are looking at it from the perspective of say, Andy Parfitt or Radio 1 management - whereas I'm looking at it from my perspective as a 19 year old Chris Moyles fan.

I dont want a "sensible" producer who doesn't get sidetracked. Maybe on Five Live Breakfast, or the Today programme - but on the Chris Moyles Show? I want someone who is exciting, funny, up for anything and can relate to the audience - while at the same time still being able to fulfill their role as producer. Rachel is too much of a bleedin feminist. For her to moan at Chris for being sexist is stupid, as he is clearly one of the most sexist people there is. And I love him for it. "The show needs more womanly input" is also not true - it should have as little as possible. Lizzie only worked because she was a tomboy. Carrie, whilst being nice and all that, is too dull.

If "the team" (collective) have more input than Chris, then its wrong. Its his show, he's the gaffer - he should decide what's on it. He pretty obviously puts minimal effort into show prep at the moment, because he has the team to do it all for him. I am living in a fantasy world maybe, but I want the show to be fun, exciting, cutting-edge, risque - all the things it is becoming less off. A perfect example is the "Say No To Wogan" campaign. Yes it obviously offended some people at Radio 2, but screw them. Who cares if it did. It should have run for months. But oh no, Wogan's listeners got their knickers in a twist so its dropped.

Perhaps Chris is getting too old for all that stuff, but I hope not. In a way I'd rather he go out from Radio 1 with a bang in a year or two (fired/sackled for something) than coast on through at half pace for the next five years.

Very true, I do look at things with a more general overview than a subjective personal view so in that regard who's to say who is right.

MC wrote: "The show needs more womanly input" is also not true - it should have as little as possible. Lizzie only worked because she was a tomboy.

Again differing view points from above, I know many women who would dissagree, true that doesn't help your point much. Again I'm looking at the show from a general point.

Very true but again as with most things no matter when it decides to get dropped there will always be people who say "it should go on for longer"

MC wrote:Perhaps Chris is getting too old for all that stuff, but I hope not. In a way I'd rather he go out from Radio 1 with a bang in a year or two (fired/sackled for something) than coast on through at half pace for the next five years.

Again this is something I agree on, always better to go out with a bang rather than a whimper.

As with most of your posts I find much to agree on even if we have differing points of view. Whilst I enjoy the show I also see why he has to be the way he is at the moment, doesn't mean I have to enjoy it but i understand it. It's a catch 22 situation, I want Chris to be sexist and crass and talk about football all the time and take the piss out of people and annoy people like wogan but at the same time I understand that he can't do that stuff on the breakfast show if he's to keep his job.

Uber-long thread-tastic.

I think the problem is, that when the show started it was the chris moyles show entertaining the people. Now however, it seems like chris is turning up, to have a laugh with his mates and the audience are to a degree incidental. Whilst sometimes the 'within group' humour is funny, it just goes on and on to the detriment of the audiences enjoyment.

But at what point does it turn into just a load of pre-recorded features. What's the right mix?

The best thing would be serious listener input, but its all down to Chris at the end of the day.

Any DJ can take Celeb Tarzan, some will make it crap, some will make it funny. Chris tries to make it as funny as possible, considering it is getting repetitive. but then again, so does everything.

Its hard to think of ideas all the time, but that is what you have to do.

pre-recorded features have their place on local radio - its Chris's job to make sure he is risque, funny, but safe. Its hard, and he may well be running out of stuff, but the success of being a good DJ is not the features made by a panel of experts, or a slick sounding show, however important they are, but it is the ability to talk on the listeners level to one listener (i.e, Lets go down the pub, What song shall we play next?) at a time, and make it funny and entertaining. Hard, but if you don't make the listener feel as they are your mate, then you aint got it.

Chris DOES have this - but how long before he gets older, fame, celebrity fortune etc, get to him and he can't speak on the listeners "Joe Public" level. Chris can do that cos he has come from a background. evey DJ can do it at the start, but if you can't connect with the audience, then you can't host a show.

The Show is doing okay at the moment - guess who and ramble are the most like being down the pub, which is the basic feel of the show, and the silly games are the best, like Vidaduct from ages ago.

More Viaduct.... better show!

Now did that make sense?

The whole thing with Celeb Tarzan is as Chris has said numerous time is that it's a parody of Local Radio which Chris likes to do a lot.

Please form an orderly queue to tell me that it's not funny anymore and it's gone on long enough and should be replaced with something new and while there at it can they please get rid of Rob Dj's quiz

the problem with parodying it is the overkill that evantually forms. If theres nothing original, parodies are not funny.

To be fair I've always found the shows after their holidays missing something, at least for the first week, so I've come to expect that. But this week I've hardly listened to the show due to different cirumstances and its felt different. Listening to the show on the brief ocasions that I have made me realise how little I've missed hearing it since theyve been back, and thats never been the case before. It just feels tired as some people have already said like and I havent laughed at anything that I've heard which is unusual as something normally gives me a laugh. The only feature I've found enjoyable so far this week is Guess Who. I guess the Celeb Tarzan being the same voice probably doesnt help in that respect, but when one of the main highlights of the show is the chat with JK & Joel theres obviously something wrong as thats not even part of the show!

This year just feels a lot like 2002 in so many different ways for me. This is reflected in the show as well, as 2002 was when I started getting bored of the afternoon shows. Looking back to some of the features and ideas that they used back then, I found it quite amazing how much of it I didnt remember, the America road trip for example completely passed me by.

I hope I'm wrong but I wouldnt actually be surprised if Moyles did leave R1 soon, maybe something's been agreed I dont know but he seems a lot quieter than usual atm. I know its only the first week back and on the first day I gave that the benefit of the doubt but as I said before something's missing and I hope it changs.

I personally think that the shows are good, to be honest all i want to do on my drive to work every day is listen to something that makes me laugh and the show does just that, i think they should poach Lloyd from Scott Mills though as that part of the show whilst they were holidaying was awesome.

The show is nowhere near as good as it could and should be, but it is still worth listening to. In fact, it is still the only show on R1 that I consistently enjoy.

Even though Moyles doesnt hide the fact he has a massive ego and he plays up to it, it is starting to grind on me a bit now.

A new producer would sharpen things up for sure. Things seem to have run out of steam. If I were the Parf daddy, I'd want the very best entertainment radio producer working on the show presented by the station's biggest on air talent.

Given the elements produced by Lloyd on the Scott Mills show, he would be a main contender in helping rejuvinate the content featured on the breakfast show. However, his low-key demeanor may not suit all too well with the team interaction on Moyles show.

Alternatively, based on the shows he has been in charge of - Aled should be given the opportunity of producing the show completely. His realisation of how interaction with the audience using new media, his unquestionable passion for the show and his current involvement in the set up are three strong reasons for his promotion.

Also, I think this would bring a new twist upon the on-air dynamics of the' chris vs producer' relationship. We've had the authority figure of Rhys, we've had the 'I want to be one of the lads' Will, the feminist Racheal and now we can have the powerfull gay producer.

Rather then relying on the same carry on style jokes, you could have Aled playing a more authoritive role wanting to make the show more lifestyle/glitzy with Chris and Dave rebelling and bodging up up these attempts with politically incorrect actions. Playing up on the down to earth personas of Chris and Dave against Aled's (on-air)aspirations of fame and celebrity exceptance.

They should also bring in a pwoper arsey middle class hardcore feminist researcher, for Chris & Dave to joust with.

OK lets have a look at how the show was in 2004, and how it is now. 2004 saw Buzz off, carpark catchphrase, which then became the classic orchestra music and Beep Beep Borers. All these features have now ceased, but whats new? JK and Joel for starters. The 5 minute banter at the beginning is a must and now they're on holiday for 2 weeks, little Reggie is not going to provide that 'lift' at the beginning.

Mystic Horse was there last week, I'm glad they dropped that, you hear it once and thats pretty much it. But the real problem for me is the last half hour. theres no permanent feature, I miss the way the show used to be so explosive that it would practically bang into Jo Whiley come 10. Now its just random slowness, and they just seem to go out with a whimper each day. Plus the banters not been up to it at this time either (this week) Having said that, Mondays show was great, they filled it well. They've been working together for a long time now, been to Germany and it must be a helluva hard job keeping it all fresh, and keeping that all important spark which makes great radio. Good luck team.
