So when did the this guy go from reviewing movies once a week on Jo Whiley's show, to filling in for other DJ's?

What next?, Michelle the Cleaner filling in for Chris...actually that might be quite funny :) .

People work their arse off to get on the radio, perhaps his dedication and professionalism finally got management to give him a shot in the hotseat.

or maybe theyve run out of people who are desperate enough to do any time slot given to them.

He wasnt too bad tho, better than Fearne and Reggie!

He's a Broadcast Jorno, hey if Mark Chappers can get his own show, James King can cover. I dont really mind him, he's always replying back to emails about films. He sounds alright.

I think I was asked three times this weekend why I had local radio on. And yet it was Radio 1. Sums him up really.

He sounded far too nervous, and I'm not sure who presses the buttons during his show for Newsbeat, but we almost had a Briggy moment yesterday

James King sounded horrible. I sincerely hope this isn't another future 'Radio 1 Vision' - Where they train up their 'new future talent' by letting them dep on various shows and then throw them into a quicky new schedule....only to realise they went terribly wrong less than a year later.

James King is pretty good with the film reviews (even when he did the super early morning slot with JW) but i just can't listen to him when he has a full show. Maybe i just don't get his humour or something but i find him hard work, he just doesn't seem to be at ease presenting a full show. Chappers might have started as a sports monkey and doesn't seem to know what he's doing half the time (which is what i like about him and dave!) but he is still a confident and funny presenter with character, something James King lacks.

I thought James Kings movie reviews were alright till I started listening to Mark Kermodes on Radio 5. He knows how to review movies well!

Yeah but to be fair David, when King fills in for Kermode (as he often does) he's quite good too.

The thing with Radio 1 at the moment is that they lack people to cover shows, particularly in the week. In the past DJ's like Emma B, Vicky Marsden, Sarah HB, Nemone, Scott Mills etc - were all over the schedule.

That's the problem with getting celebs to fill the Dj schedules - look at Vernon and the newly promoted Reggie and Fern. Ok on weekend, to an extent, but they are all over the TV that they can't regularly fill in on weekdays

Kermode was good but now King's fully taken over hasn't he? thats the way I understood it, and im sure it's been that way for quite some time since Kermode now has semi-regular telly work.

Who or what is Kermode?

Mark Kermode, Radio 1s old film reviewer... way back in the days of yore and Mark n Lard.

Mark & Lard (wipes a tear from the eye).

Let's roll a fresh un' for the bad dog James King. Well done on scoring a spot. The movies are proper rag & bone at the moment anyway.

As far as radio 1 goes, King's taken over in the movie buff role.

I'm sure I've seen Mark on BBC 2 and 3 things, maybe Channel 4 too but can't be sure on that.

King took over as Radio 1's film critic about six or seven years ago!

Get with the times.

I am obviously easily pleased as I thought James King did a good job on early breakfast. That little film sketch thing he did with Scott Mills was quite funny.
I am impressed that he drives his own desk too for just a movie reviewer...

It's only as random as Chappers and Dave having their own show.

Considering that Chappers and Dave are on air 3 hours a day five days a week with Scott and Chris, and James King is on 15 minutes a week, it isn't really

I wish Radio 1 would try and find new talent from hospital & student radio to "fill in the gaps" when weekend DJs are away.
It would be a risk, but they might strike gold- find a Moyles, Lucio or Scott Mills.

Ha, hospital radio straight to Radio 1? Dream on.

The problem is (I think) that Radio 1 don't like to sign too many DJ's from commercial radio, because its in their remit to be different from commercial stations. Of the current daytime line up (including weekends) only Moyles, Mills, JK and Joel and Edith (briefly) have worked in commercial radio.

Editing gap to come
