From a leading industry source:
- This IS Genuine.
JK and Joel are one step closer to the weekday mainstream lineup on Radio 1, after the station announced a series of changes to its schedule from September.
Murray has been moved from afternoons to weekday evenings. Edith Bowman will continue to present weekday afternoons between 1 and 4pm.
However, we've been told that this is in fact an intermediary step which will eventually see JK and Joel, currently presenting early breakfast and the chart show, being promoted to weekday afternoons.
Colin Murray will present a new music show which will include regular documentaries, between 10pm and midnight from Monday to Thursday, ending Murray's three year partnership at the station with Edith Bowman.
A senior source at Radio 1 told us back in January that Murray and Bowman would be separated, and that the latter would replace Jo Whiley on weekday mid-mornings in the following 12 months, at which point JK and Joel would move to weekday afternoons. The pair, who left Key 103's breakfast show to join Radio 1, already deputise for Colin and Edith.
The new schedules include the addition of several specialist programmes. In New Music We Trust is a new, one hour specialist programme broadcasting at 9pm, Monday to Thursday. Although Lamacq Live has been axed, Steve Lamacq will continue to broadcast on the station, presenting Monday's In New Music We Trust programme.
The schedules changes will begin from Monday 25th September.
