i thought today's show was good however surely Moyles is allowed to miss a day off wrk now and again...everyone does it he is after all human....
surprised Dave didnt cover on his own like Chappers did for Scott a month or so ago
This whole thing reminds me of when Scott Mills filled in for Sara Cox on the breakfast show just after he did the early breakfast shift.....ever since then Scott rose up the ladder in Radio 1....

People who are giving out at Moyles....have to remember that everyone misses days in wrk...im not slagging moyles as for the phone call at the end of the show thats part of his act....

From Media Guardian

BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles failed to turn up to present his breakfast show this morning.
Listeners' help was sought in the search for the missing DJ and early morning breakfast show hosts JK and Joel stayed on after their shift to present a makeshift show with Moyles' team.

The BBC later claimed it was an elaborate stunt and by the end of the programme Moyles himself phoned in to say he had earlier left a voicemail message on the producer's phone.

Other sources, however, said the Radio 1 team was unaware of the stunt

The fact that Moyles, a Leeds United football fan, had been in Cardiff yesterday to watch his team miss out on a place in the Premiership to Watford may have had something to so with his no-show, said the on-air team.

According to a Radio 1 spokesman, listeners had been on the end of an elaborate joke: that Moyles going AWOL was pre-planned as a "gag" and that everyone involved - from station controller Andy Parfitt to JK and Joel and Moyles' team - knew in advance.

"It was a bit of fun with the audience," said the spokesman. "The show and everybody involved knew he wasn't coming in."

The mystery came just days after Moyles was accused by actor Halle Berry of having a "racist moment" .

The DJ often arrives at the station in the nick of time to present his show and is occasionally late, but has never before failed to turn up.

Moyles' row with the Hollywood actor has been erased from the DJ's podcast.

Introducing the segment, which also included an interview with Berry's X-Men co-star Hugh Jackman, Moyles said she was "very tired, grumpy and to be honest I didn't bond with her".

However, he made no mention of Berry's accusation that he was having a "racist moment", nor his impression of a "big, fat black guy" that prompted her remark. The entire exchange was deleted although the BBC has insisted Moyles' comments were not racist.

Moyles' podcast is one of the BBC's most popular, and is currently number two in the iTunes charts, behind Ricky Gervais.

I don't think we'll properly know - similar to the argument of the Say No To Wogan campaign (was it axed by the BBC, or did the team only intend for it to happen for a week)

maybe the bosses wanted to see if the Chuckle Brothers would be good enough for a breakfast time slot (and yes i know they worked breakfast in Key 103) maybe they could be replacing someone on the roster soon....Colin and Edith???

Pretty impressive if that is the case as they haven't even been on early breakfast a year yet.

Not that I would be complaining as you have probably noticed I love them anyway

Listening to him on the phone, he sounds p!ssed at first, and then breaks into "normal Chris", and then once they start talking about how bad he sounds, he returns to being "p!ssed" - clearly all some big BBC setup.

If it had been a planned holiday, they'd have had Mills in. I got the impression that originally they didn't have a clue where he was but by about half 7 they had been in contact and just decided to make it a gag. The fact that Dave wasn't concerned about Chris' saftey was enough to make us realise that they must have been in contact.

It was a refreshing change and they worked increadibly well with Dave. Dave seems to be on top form when he is with Chappers, JK and Joel but not so much with Chris anymore. I don't think JK and Joel would have worked so well if they had been on their own this morning.

No doubt we'll get all the Moyles haters going on about "unprofessionality" now, and I love the Halle Berry thing is brought up again and again, even though it has bugger all to do with this morning.

Favorite line of the morning: "This is JK and Joel, in for Chris Evans, err, I mean Moyles"

I think that you're quite right.

And I must say I really enjoyed the show this morning with JK & Joel. Made a nice change and they seemed to get on well with the breakfast show team.

I think it was possibly agreed that if Leeds won he would do the show, if they lost he wouldn't. That might be why Mills wasn't penned in to do it.

If Leeds won, I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to miss an oppertunity to gloat to the nation.

It's quite possible it was planned, as I found it a bit odd that they were talking to Chris on Vernon's show yesterday, when that's usually something they only do for station-events like One Night With Laura. Thus meaning that the bosses knew about it.
