The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Simple question.

The show is back next week but I have the feeling nothing will have changed.

It will be the same team, same features, same everything. I'm not doing the usual chrismoyles.net thing and comparing the show to it's glory days, but compared to say, two years ago (in the first year of breakfast) - do people here honestly think the show is better now?

Radio 1 don't want to mess with a winning formula, and understandably so, but I get the feeling most people on here would like the show freshened up a bit.

Some parodies would have been nice. They were some hard evidence I could give to my friend to show how funny the show can be.

Little gems like the jingle competitions they used to do were quite amusing too.

Make sure Rachel isn't given as much on air time. She is far too strict about things, Pub Quiz is one of the main examples of this. I'm not going to go on a massive "Bring Back Will" rant, as that is clearly never going to happen. But there does need to be a producer who lets the show be a littler looser, for want of a better phrase. It's no coincidence for me that IMO some of the best shows at breakfast are when Rachel hasn't been there.

I don't think she is doing a bad job, and this isn't an attack on her - its just I don't like hearing her on air all that much.

Also, get rid of the Pub Quiz.

The Breakfast Show was supposed to be a "revolution", but in terms of Radio 1's music department it hasn't really changed from any other show. If I wanted constant music I'd have my MP3 player on, so I agree with Fish Heads on that.

Time to change the Pub Quiz. If there not going to axe it at least freshen it up a bit. Why not get Rob DJ on the phone every week?

TBH i havn't listened to the breakfast show a great deal this year. I do find that the funny links in the show aren't given the length of time they deserve on air, if a link develops into being really funny then it often doesnt't get carried over to the next link and throughout the show which is a bit of a shame

It seems Chris and the team have 'too many boxes to tick' in some shows and things that should get air time are swapped for pub quizzes and Radio 1's unimaginative playlist.

As we all know though the only opinions you will get from people on the board will be geared towards how the show used to be. Not that i want to rant about it but things like 'Office Dares' will never happen on breakfast, in my opinion that's unfortunate as they're the kind of moments/shows which are pure gold to listen to time and time again.

With it being breakfast though i think there is an element of responsibility that the how carries and take nothing away from it, The Breakfast Show has been very popular since the launch in 2004. I just wish that that 'unpredicatability' the show used to have was still there. "Where the link goes, nobody knows."

I'd like it if the show were more random as it's started to feel a little planned. I know it probably is planned and has to be to a certain degree, but I'd just like a few more random features, they always seem to be funny, even were they're bad, like 'King of Tickets' and 'The Italian Quiz'.

What i do find funny is when Radio 1 have slightly older songs, maybe 2-4 years old on. What they seem to do is have about 5 old songs that get rotated around different shows, one day you'll here Basement Jaxx - Good Luck on Moyles and then 2 days later it's on Colin & Edith again, i find it funny that with the huge back catalogue of music radio 1 have they can't mix things up a bit more and be slightly inventive, especially when alot of people listen to Radio 1 for the whole day.

I've noticed that about the older songs as well.

I just can't believe how they don't think it's even slightly noticeable. When one DJ says 'here's a song i havn't heard for a while' and then another says the same 2 days later it's rubbish.

Surely it isn't too much work to rotate them more often, or is everyone in the building that busy that no-one has time to think up more than 5 songs at a time.

Prime example: Tomcraft - Loneliness.

What do people think about the amount of music on Chris's show?

I think most of us agree we listen for the chat, not the music, but recently I've noticed that after the segue (the 2 songs out of the news) there is sometimes not a song until after the next news bulletin..

I think they have a good balance of really new music (first song by new bands) and just new music.
Remember that when R1 played old music as pre. Bannister (1970-1994) and the Conservitive Government at the time were going to privitise the station- since it served no purpose under the BBC Charter.
This is why R1 Plays New Music and makes such a big deal of it.
I agree with the Basement Jaxx point though- how many times has that been played?- couldnt they play a old Zutons or Feeder?

When i do listen to the show i find the music quite annoying, the same old stuff all the time so i usually switch to my iPod whilst driving and get wrapped up in my own music that before i know it i've missed 20-30 mins of the show.

For example, on the playlist at the moment:

BeatFreakz - The name says it all.
Chris Brown - As if Usher wasn't bad enough, we have to listen to the British version.
Ne*Yo - Why can't he turn off the radio? I can very easily when this comes on.

This stuff is dire, why can't the DJ's pick the songs. Still new music but maybe more relevant to their show, output and audience. I guess this would put people out of a job at Radio 1 though as they seem to have a team that decides what's worthy and what's not.

Moyles - Happily speaks his mind about the playlist
Whiley - Never says a word when she plays anything poor.
C & E - Happily go along with anything.
Mills - Happily go along with anything.

I just feel that maybe we'd get more out of the dj's if the music was more suitable. Isn't it about time Radio 1 stopped juggling between having the best music and the best radio persoanities for the audience and decide what's really important, in my opinion the station is losing its sense of identity, either that or i'm moving ever closer out of the target audience.

I dont know if it is losing its identity, in fact over the last 2 years I think is finally found it.
The recent adverts about Gnarls Barclay etc. show that at its heart R1 is about playing the best new music; IN NEW MUSIC WE TRUST.
The personalities come 2nd.

But if the NEW MUSIC is crap then they shouldn't play it just for the fact that it is indeed NEW MUSIC.

but thats the whole point of Radio 1!

if the DJ's chose the music, the music on Moyles would be awful.

I'm not saying choose what they like from anything, just let them choose from a selection slightly bigger than the radio 1 playlist, still NEW MUSIC though.

Oh the irony. You're trying to link to an image on 127.0.0.1 which is the loopback IP.
