BBC strike could pull the plug on popular r...

LONDON - Top BBC radio shows such as the Radio 4 'Today' programme and Chris Moyles' Radio 1 breakfast show could be taken off air as radio staff prepare to strike over the proposed job cuts planned by director-general Mark Thompson.

Broadcasting unions led by Bectu are meeting today to decide on industrial action, which could start as early as next week. Luke Crawley, Bectu negotiator, said: "If the BBC wish to do something about this they can change their offer. Otherwise staff working for BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 4 and children's radio will all be getting involved." Up to 500 union members are set to strike over the planned cull, which will result in 239 jobs in radio and music being lost with 124 new posts created. As part of the radio restructure, three jobs are effectively being merged into one in the division.

Anyone could go with these job cuts, it's disgraceful. And the work and time that has to go into applying for the new jobs is disgusting too, when it doesn't need to happen.

I vaguely remember the BBC striking before, but Chris's show was unaffected as both he and Dave aren't BBC employees.
