The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Every morning going to work I get there generally laughing about something on your programme. This morning your disrespectful comments about such a noble creature Best Mate really upset me. You comment that his death was no more upsetting than a punctured football made me feel quite sick, that you would put such low regard on an animal’s life. Yes, he was a horse, not a human being, but are we such magnificent beings that we should show such lack of compassion for such a beautiful animal that served his owners and public to the end and had a heart attack in front of us on the race course. A race that he didn’t ask to enter but was put there to do his job. I do hope that you will reflect on what you have said and feel ashamed. I won’t be listening to your radio show for some time.

I hope you realise that this site is not run by Chris Moyles, or, infact, anyone at the BBC. It is a fansite, run by fans. Having a go at us for something Chris said is fairly pointless.

Having said that, I happen to agree with Chris on this one. Do you cry when any horse dies? What makes this one special? On a similar note, do you cry when every human dies?

no i didn't know that this was a fan site. I just looked on the net to try to find some way of saying that I think that he was sadly out of order in what he said and I hope that he reflects on it and makes some sort of appology. I don't think that he has helped his fan club by these remarks. Yes I am an animal lover and I have owned dogs, cats, horses, ponies, fish, mice, gerbals, rabbits - it goes on - and yes they all die for one reason or another. Best Mate was a super star and a truly great horse. For what it is worth I think that he should have been retired but there you are, how many people suddenly die of a heart attack. There are those that are old and those that are young. If Chris is honest I wonder how he would react if he hit a football in the road and burst it compare to a dog and crushed its head and saw the owner in tears. Do you think that he would tell the owner well it was just a dog.

Yes, but, Ruth, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It just so happens Chris moyles is albe to voice them accross the nation, but I have to say, I agree with what console said...

Did you cry when Pipin the dog from Come Outside died, or when Wellard from Eastenders died (I dont know if he's dead yet, but you know what I mean), or like Console said about humans dying, did you care as much when Richard Whiteley passed on? Its hard to put your emotions into everything, especially when you dont really care about it.

Man: "Get your piping hot horse burgers horse fries, horse cakes and shakes. We got tongue, straight from the horse's mouth."
Leela: "Hmm."
Hermes: "It all sounds good."
Man: "All our horses are 100% horse-fed for that double-horse "juiced-in" goodness."
Leela: "I'll have the cholesterol-free omelet with horse-beaters."
Man: "And you, Sir? How can I horse you?"
Hermes: "I'll have a horse Coke."
Man: "Horse Pepsi okay?"
Hermes: "Nay."

I knew there was a reference in there somewhere! :o)

Not having heard the show this morning (damn you work firewall!!) I can't really comment on what Chris said, but from a personal point of view, I can understand people getting emotional over the loss of a pet, a relation, or someone you had a close personal connection with.
To display the same for someone, person or animal, that you have never come into contact with, who hasn't affected your life in any real way, is a bit OTT.

I'm not Chris so I can't say what he'd do, but I think most people would have the decency to see the attachment that the owner had to their pet and respond accordingly.

Chris was actually commenting on how JK (or was it Joel?) reacted when hearing the news, he wasn't talking about the owner, or anyone that was close to the horse, he was talking about a radio one DJ that upon hearing the news apparantley cried, despite never having even met the horse.

I was watching News 24 yesterday and they were reporting on this and you'd honestly think it was a person that had died. It was stupid. I totally agree with Chris on this one. It's only a horse.

Yes, animals have feelings.... but hardly worth making national news about it.

Sure it was a successful racehorse, but Aryton Senna was a successful racing driver. Yes it was a tragedy, but how many people cried then?

Horses are (usually) lovely animals, but although i sometimes ride horses I have little interest in horse racing so this particular death doesn't really bother me, I can understand if someone is directly involved, but to be honest for 'ordinary' people to get upset over this dumbfounds me.

Do the people that get upset do anything to help horses, for example donating to animal rescue charities....... or are they all vegan? I know we don't eat horse meat in this country, but who says that horses are more important than pigs, or cows? the whole thing is hypocritical.

On the same subject, my daughter once said to me that she hates Koreans, because they eat dogs, this was just after eating pork, so I asked her which animal has been proven to have more intelligence, Dogs or Pigs, the answer is pigs. Cows are also intelligent as Mr Keedwells? cow managed to voice her opinion this morning on national radio :P

some people take animals way to seriously. i wouldn't be at all affected if any animal or person i don't know dies.

that said i will cry when my crabs die.

Don't think it's about people crying, they just think some comments (ie. the football, tennis racket) were insensitive.

Personally it dosen't bother me, but I can see some peoples point.

Nice little earner for radio 1 with all the texts that came in aswell!!

I'm fairly certain the BBC makes no money of the text messages that come in whatsoever.

I find it ironic that these ppl who grieve (sp?) for this horse support and/or participate in a sport that brought this horse to its death. Don't ya think it might be cruel breeding a horse to race, they claim the horses enjoy it but there is no evidence of that...

But you are saying it might be cruel to breed them for something that there is no evidence of them liking. But I am pointing out that there is no evidence of them disliking it either. It's called looking at both sides of the story
