I was looking at the podcasting section.

So, there letting people download highlights of the show. Didn't they used to do that before they went to breakfast?

Wikipedia wrote:Podcasting is a method of publishing via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). It became popular in late 2004, largely to automate downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers.

The word "podcasting" is a portmanteau that combines the words "broadcasting" and "iPod." The term can be misleading since neither podcasting nor listening to podcasts requires an iPod or any portable music player. For that reason, since September 2004 various writers have suggested reinterpreting the letters POD to create "backronyms" such as "Personal On-Demand."

The BBC grants you a 7-day, non-exclusive licence to download this audio.

This is what the bbc said, does this mean that we only have a 7 day trial. I dont really understand this

am i right in thinking that it shows highlights from the weeks shows

if so:
Might mean that you get the same show for 7 days then they update it

Possibly, I can get a show down to 45MB with fairly good quality, but its 90MB for excellent quality.

also, back to what bliss was saying,

from the bbc website:

Why are downloads only available for 7 days after broadcast?

Currently most BBC radio programmes are offered online for 7 days after broadcast, via the BBC Radio Player, as this is what we have negotiated with our rights holders. To be consistent with this we are also offering programmes as download and for podcast for 7 days after broadcast.

Didn't it say it would only be the highlights?

Yeah, but once you've cut all the music out, you're only talking about a fraction of that. The highlights would probably be about half an hour at the most.

Console knows more about all of this. But i guess if you encode it to 56kbps, i think you could fit one show on.

If you encode it at 64Kbps mono (32 Kbps) then that would take the average show down to 45MB, if you were to then take the music out your looking at around 30MB, so you could theoretically fit two on a 64MB mp3 player.

normally you'd think with the BBC it would, but this next line is a bit vauge:

bbc wrote:The BBC grants you a 7-day, non-exclusive licence to download this audio.

Now does that mean you can only download it for 7 days, or does the file have DRM so it can only be played for 7 days after transmission? If its the latter then I'd imagine it wouldnt work with an IPod.

They should take the dry mix of the show with no music completley and just make highlights and place it over the chris moyles main music or something like that. That way it could be on the website forever.

You're so close you wouldn't believe!

It's a 20 min highlight edition of the week's (Fri - Thurs) worth of shows. It will work on ipods or Windows compatible or you can simply download it to your PC.

It's dry mic used over the main theme tune. Music 4 have given us special permission to use their music during the trial.
