JB wrote:The 2nd september 1997 one isn't from the 2nd of september. For a start Diana was killed on Sunday 31st, and Chris mentions it's a Thursday. Radio 1 would probably still be a bit subdued aswell if it was 2/9, and Chris also mentions Candle in the Wind will be number one on Sunday so if anyone can find out the date that was released then that should nail it.

Fantastic recordings though. Amazing how Moyles has changed, he sounds very enthusiastic there....but a bit local radio too (for obvious reasons).

Candle in the wind got to No.1 on 14th September so the previous Thursday would be the 11th.

I'm amazed that Radio 1 were still doing some Newsbeats without a music bed in the background as late at 1997 (although curiously the 7am one does have a bed), it sounds very Radio 4 now. Anyone know when they stopped this?

Thanks a load for these, they make pretty fascinating listening and comparing the different styles of shows to today. Look forward to hearing more if anybody has some, would love to hear some stuff from Spring 2001 onwards, when I first started listening.

I've also got a few bits of archive Moyles, although a bit newer than these. I'm a big Oasis fans and was taping the Noel Gallagher interview bits so he features on most of the clips, but there is a few bits of non-Oasis links in there as well. I've kept in the music. I've uploaded them using Rapidshare which, although reliable, has a download limit so I don't think you'll be able to download these all at once before passing the download limit and being told to wait for an hour. Don't know if you can bypass this somehow with cookies and whatnot, give it a try.

Rapidshare only has a 30mb limit, so I'm going to upload my files to my webspace. Unfortunately, that only has a 50mb limit, so I can only upload one at a time. If anyone else can mirror the files, then I can delete it from my webspace and upload another one.

The first 2002 American Road Trip clip is now uploaded, see my previous post for the link,

I've never really understood Newsgroups or Usenet. Do u have to pay to join a site to download stuff, or do u add a Newsgroup account in Outlook and download there?

Cheers

Get X News. It's a free newsreader, and you can get to binary groups through it.

Just finished downloading and listening now, it's really weird hearing Comedy Dave playing such a small part in the show, also it's great to hear Moyles and Clive Warren again!

[quote="Uglybob"]is it the audio or is chris talking quicker.

No I think Chris did talk quicker at the time. I taped a song he played in the first few months of the Afternoon Show and listening back its difficult to believe its actually him. I used to think it was Mark Radcliffe.

As I wasn't listening to Radio 1 (I came after a few years away when Moyles did the afternoon show) I didn't realise he played such random old songs. The thought of Radio 1 playing anything older than 5 years old now is ridicoulous. An example of how Radio 1 appeals to a younger audience (I sometimes feel old and I'm 22).

Also I noticed on the October show they were using the same Coolio clip for What's the Word or Words that they used in the September show. I noticed in the sports news for the September show they mentioned the football results. So I decided to search for when the Man U-Juventus match was played. That match was played on the 1st October which means that the show is from Thursday 2nd October. Thats where the confusion was. Hope this helps.

Cheers for that I'll update my records now. It was a handwritten scrawl at 4am when the alarm clock went off.

I'm not sure whether it was because of what I said earlier in the thread, but did anyone hear today's show when they played Blur - Parklife, a random old song from over 10 years ago! Maybe it confirms that the team do read what is posted on here.

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
