Liked what Moyles said about that J-Lo & Fat Joe record earlier.

on part two of 27 April 1998 file, there is about 25 minutes extra, and that happens to be the Simon Mayo show as he was on at 09:00.

No, it doesn't sound like him.

No that was his first producer on Early Breakfast, Simon Barnett.

The breakfast show one on 27th April 98 is superb - Ben, Chris, Dave and Piers (I presume its the same Piers who now produces Jo Whiley). Daves "score with some chicks" line was the highlight for me. Carolyn Atkinson on the news too, wonder what happened to her?

Bar Steps and Boyzone, no stinkers in the music played either - Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Black Grape, Supergrass, Freak Power, The Audience, Olive, Manics, Dandy Warhols, Run DMC, Shed 7 etc.

Also, listen to the start of part 2 on the 3/10/97 show. How different does Dominic sound reading the news?

Yeah I was just thinking how much better the music was. Infact the show sounds so much better then as well, but maybe it's just a different style to what we are now used to.

I'm sure I heard a Carolyn Atkinson on Radio 4 one day, but it may not be the same one.

I do think it sounds so much better then, although yes the style has undoubtedly changed. Back then everyone was a lot younger, the music played was better, everyone on the team was actually funny and the features seem superb compared to most of the dross on the show now (for example: its hard to imagine Chris and Dave coming up with stuff like "throwing sugar lumps at the studio clock" or "True of False" anymore).

Another thing is (and it might just be me).. but Chris seems a lot funnier in these clips. I mean he is still funny now, but these old shows are like a hundred times better. Its a tragedy that Cox got the breakfast show and not Chris when he was this good..

The original clip has had its music removed and is now posted to the main page.

If anyone has other clips from the era, of if clmfsh could provide some others, please let me know. I'll add them as future '1 from the archive clips.

I've been very busy at work this week. The 29th April is currently sat on my machine in MP3 format so I just need to find some spare upstream bandwidth to get it loaded. I'll try this weekend. I also have captured a breakfast show from 3rd July 1998 which I'll process shortly.

I need a day with 50 hours to get everything done at the moment.

I remember listening to his first show on radio 1 and once when he said the frequency of his previous station. He said "95.8...." and the look of horror on his producers face.

I agree that his shows on Chiltern Radio, Capital FM and some of his early bit shows are better and funnier than they are now.

Oh yes, I was hidden in the bin.

No thats what Moyles said straight after. It was something like "95.8......(then silence) ha ha ha the look of horror on your face then"

I cant remember what Simon's reply was.

The 2nd september 1997 one isn't from the 2nd of september. For a start Diana was killed on Sunday 31st, and Chris mentions it's a Thursday. Radio 1 would probably still be a bit subdued aswell if it was 2/9, and Chris also mentions Candle in the Wind will be number one on Sunday so if anyone can find out the date that was released then that should nail it.

Fantastic recordings though. Amazing how Moyles has changed, he sounds very enthusiastic there....but a bit local radio too (for obvious reasons).

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
