Hiya,

I have been sorting through some old DATs from 1997-8 and have a few complete programs of Chris on Radio 1. The first one I have just sampled is from 2nd September 1997 and is 3 hours long. It's currently a 1.8Gb WAV file sitting on my HD. Any hints as to the preferred encoding method I should use to make it available?

Cheers.

converting it to mp3 should take it to about 200MB, which although still quite large, isn't as large as your 1GB .wav :lol:

Know what the bitrate showing up is?

On DAT it's 32KHz.

Get this Quintessential Player. This software encodes WAV to mp3 and vice versa. It also plays ogg files which you may find at some point, dont bother editing the music out. If you encode it at 128kbps it should be around 200MB.
And I think it can be shared via You Send It.com.

Ok, I have encoded it to MP3 at 128Kbps and it's 171Mb. Anyone want it via http://www.yousendit.com?

<edit>

I'll rar and par it shortly and post it to alt.binaries.sounds.radio.bbc.highspeed for anyone else who wants it.

any chance of putting it somewhere for those of us who don't use newsgroups?

If this is a radio rip, you can probably re-encode it at 64kbps without much loss (if any) and halve the size of the thing. Probably worth a try, it will save people a hell of a lot of bandwidth.

Just my £0.02!

You could split it into parts, and encode them at 64kbps. And host them here at http://conditionzero.org/.

I'm recoding it now with a lower bitrate and will get it available on a website somewhere. WTS.

I have split it into two 90 minute chunks and re-encoded at 64kbps. Enjoy.

Keep an ear out for a very young sounding David Vitty shortly after 06:15.

It's odd hearing him without Dave though. I always thought Dave was on early breakfast too, was he away for this show or was it before he was on it?
