DJs Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley, aka Mark and Lard, are to leave BBC Radio 1 for sister stations.
Mark Radcliffe will be joining Radio 2 later this year while Riley will join digital station 6 Music in April.

Radio 2 and 6 Music controller Lesley Douglas said: "I've been talking to them for a long time and I'm delighted to have secured their talents."

The Manchester duo, who hosted the breakfast show in 1997, built up a cult following with their brand of humour.

Mills deserves to get the gig but Parfitt still might prefer a double act.

Likewise, I'm surprised Mark and Lard are splitting up. I always presumed they would move together to either Radio 2 or 6 Music, not one to each.

I think Radcliffe will be alright on his own, he does shows on his own already anyway. I think it'll be more interesting to see what Lard will be like on his own.

And Mills should get their slot, but that would mean two doubles on weekends as i doubt they'd put Jk and Joel straight on to the weekdays, so it'll prob be Colin and Edith.

yes i quite like mills, and i think he would be good in the 1-3 slot on a regular basis. i will mis M&L tho, they were the reason i first started to listen to R1 and listening to them got me listening to moyles.

I knew the move was coming but didn't expect them to split up. It wil be Colin and Edith and Mills wil take over from Coxy when she goes on matenity leave.

How odd; one of the only presenters to increase listenership in their target demographic in the last 3-4 years as well as getting lots of awards but they sack them. I can't say I am too bothered who gets the show as I don't usually listen at that time but Mills is a far better presenter. Although if they tucked Colin and Edith there I wouldn't have to listen to them . JK and Joel need some practice at weekends first.

They should get rid of Sarah Kennedy; I loath her with a passion. I used to have to listen to her in the morning before Moyles got the show, so I could avoid Cox.

Has Lard presented shows on his own before? It's hard to imagine.

Apart from Peel (pushing 65) and Nightingale (5o odd), the oldest dj and longest serving is now Peter Tong, who will be 44 this year

Spot the mistake:

Sara Cox, host of Radio 1's flagship breakfast show, was first to be replaced, when Chris Moyles took over in October. However the decline in Radio 1's audience has continued, with Rajar figures published earlier this month showing the station had lost a further 450,000 listeners in the three months to December.
