He managed it in Demolition Man, all he needs is an amendment to the constitution.

Well, when was the last time you actually had a good president anyway.

Is that 1892 or 1992?

Bush Senior was no better than junior, just he had a few thousand more brain cells.

And Benjamin Harrison spent too much money while in office.

It was 1992 and thats when Clinton came along as Bush senior was from 1988-92. I only said 92 as it's the only president I can remember being half decent, there wasn't much choice out of him and some Bushes.

hmm... clinton as a good president? that's debatable. he kept his messes under the table for quite a while.

i would be hard pressed to say we've had a good president since... hmm... roosevelt?

just kidding, it was carter.

Yeah, Carter was pretty good, and he keeps up his good causes even after his presidency. Before him I couldn't say. Probably one of the wartime ones maybe.

Having notice Gaspodes post - Im now wondering why he can't.

I dont understand the American politcal system. Whats a sentor - is it a American version of a English member of Parliement?

Regan was always good for a laugh.
Sidla wrote:Because he's not American!
Amazing how "important" it for people what country he was born in. He's lived most his life in the US and is obviously dedicated to the country. I was born in South Africa but only lived there 2 and a half years. Apart from another 2 and a half years in the US, the rest of my time has been in Britain.
Does that make me South African or British or both.
My parents are both British. That makes a difference too I guess.
If I'd been born in America I guess I'd be American but no one ever says I'm South African.

Anyway, I reckon a constitution change will be in the pipeworks if he does a good job as senator. Probably read something like "Only Americans and rich Hollywood stars can be president".

I'm guessing that he won't have to be doing any work himself anyway. All he'll need to do is put his signature on a few documents from time to time. Kendra will probably correct me though...

Ah, I'm obviously no fan of Schwarzenegger.

Forgot about that. I didnt realise you don't have to be American to run as a Govenor*

*note: I meant Govenor in my last post.

people are talking about making a constiutional amendment so that non-native citizens can become president, ie arnie.

american senators and congressmen are like members of parliament. the congressman is closer to the british mp in some respects. both members of congress are elected. senators- 2 per state, 6 year terms. congressmen- 1 per district (based upon area and population), 2 year terms. so there are 100 senators and ~340 congressmen.

woo! woo!

is the senate not the equivalent of the house of lords?

sort of, as both houses of congress (the senate and the house of representatives) must approve of a bill before it goes to the president to sign. unlike the house of lords, they're elected and not there for life.
