Enough of the Sara love in its nauseating! I can't remember there being much love for her on this forum when she had her own breakfast show or when she covered 10-1 or the lie in. I don't mind her that much but the constant giggling throughout is extremely irritating.

I have to agree, as I said earlier I am not a big fan, or Vernon, I have my reasons which there is no point saying, wont make any difference. I was looking foward to the team in charge. I did give her a try at 9am for the tedious link which was good that it was Depeche Mode (big fan) shame it was one of two songs of theres he ever chooses on TL the other being Personnal Jesus, they did have others and better songs I Feel You, Home and I Feel Loved to name three, that really annoys. Anyway I stayed on till the end of the show, but I could'nt listen to her everyday. So shes back friday sigh, well golden hour theres no point as its always between 1990 - 2004, dont listen to it anymore. Think Ill see who Celebrity Rasberry is and call it a day till Monday.

The breakfast show she did over 6 1/2 years ago is not comparable to the show she did today, she seems to be a totally different person now and today she had a great team around her to bounce off. Also, I'm sure I've read praise for Sara's covering of Fern's 10 till 1 show on this forum.

I am afraid I'm going to have to make beetlejuice feel even more nauseated as I thought Sara was excellent today. Sara's performance has made Vernon's effort seem even more amateurish. On her first attempt at doing Chris' show she was able to drive the show and the desk almost perfectly, she knew what jingles and beds needed to played when (these are presumably written down, but she still deserves the credit as Vernon seemingly couldn't cope with this) and her timings were probably better then Chris'! Vernon must have done two or three weeks worth of Chris' show now, but he still doesn't have a clue what he's doing...

I don't know if I'd want Sara as a permanent replacement, as I think Chris can probably maintain a level entertainingness (not a word, but what the heck) over the run of a few months better that I don't think Sara would be able too. Basically, I think Sara might become a bit 'samey' after while. I'd certainly like her to be the permanent official stand in though, rather then Vernon.

Spot on sniper...

An another quick note. All Hail his avatar... He was truely a driving god. (and yes as a schumi fan, he wouldn't of had 7 titles, maybe schumi 6 and senna 6.) would of won in 94 if he hadn't died in my opinion.

Only scanned through the comments but agree with the majority Sara was brilliant today, randomly funny from the first minute. She totally gets the show and works the desk better than Vernon in my opinion. But then she would as she's been a radio DJ longer.

Maybe Aled can correct me but isn't the reason they get a stand in presenter because Dave can't fully work the desk? Aled can but as he has to produce the show he can't do it all at once.
I'm sure I've heard this somewhere, also makes sense that Dave had the show with Chappers, Chappers would cover on his own with 'best of' when Scott Mills was off on odd days but Dave doesn't cover when Chris is off - Chappers was the technical guy behind the Chappers and Dave show?
#417060
i believe that was correct jocky, chappers did drive the desk when he covered for scott...

There would be a siimple solution too the problem of dave drive the show, aled pushes the buttons, We have sam, and Matt who can produce, and if all else fails, we can get piers in too produce, maybe contibute a bit... Look back too 1998, ben and piers were regular on air contributors when chris filled in for zoe. so piers gets the show and has been his exec fince 2005 i believe. (or is it a different piers who was back then in 1998)

Thanks, and I echo your opinions. :D

If you think back to how the show sounded somewhat flat when Dave was off sick for a few days - i'd imagine a show with Dave leading and no Chris would be in a similar vein.

As someone mentioned earlier, I think Dave works better with someone to bounce off - and i'm not sure he and Aled are on enough of the same wavelength for this to work as well - and Dom wouldn't be in the studio for the whole show as he has to run off and write the news.

I very much enjoyed both Vernon and Sara this week, but looking forwards to Chris being back!

Just to add, I also loved hearing Sara this morning. It was a much more enjoyable listen than when Vernon covered, though to be fair to him, he had limited preparation time.

Looking forward to hearing her on the show again tomorrow. :-)

I shall give it a look.
it was a shame too lose him. I remember it vividly. My first ever gp i watched, and my dad brought me in just as they were coming onto the start finnish straight for lap 7 and the first image i saw was from onboard schumi's car.

If you have u torrent. i have the whole race from start too finnish from a bbc edit that cuts too eurosport when the bbc cuts away from san marino. It is good for nostalga, but a sad race. i can send you the link too the websire too download it

If Cotton can work the desk without any help I'm sure Dave could. Didn't Dave start out at Radio1 as a tech-op? Isn't a tech-ops traditional role to operate the desk for presenters who would purely present?

All this aside, Dave has sat in a studio everyday for years in front of Chris operating the desk, surely he'd pick it up, radio desks aren't that complicated, especially the ones they use at Radio1.

Maybe he doesn't lead the show purely because he doesn't want to as he knows it wouldn't work out right

Today's shows was absolutely brilliant again. Thankyou Aled for providing us with a good week of entertainment even though Chris was away. Hope he is feeling better now. Also, I thought that Dave's golden hour today was one of the best in ages and he presented it well as well. Shame about Dog or Human but it was still funny for all the wrong reasons!

I have always loved Sara, even when she was struggling with breakfast before she got sober(er) so am unapologetic about expressing here how brilliant she has been this week. Aled used the phrase "effortless laughs" and that sums up her effect on the show perfectly.

Ok - there is often speculation on here as to what will happen if(when) Chris does finally move on from breakfast. I still don't see it happening anytime soon personally, although we're all very aware that his contract these days is only for a year, so theoretically if he wanted to he could go quite soon. How big a precedent would it be in that circumstance to give breakfast to someone who has had it before? Sara is a different person than she was before in many ways, but she's a great broadcaster and I think she'd suit the slot in every way now. The reasons it all went wrong before have gone - why not?

I never listen to the Golden Hour, but did today and thought it was fantastic. So many good tunes.

Well done Dave :)

Hey you lot! I'm still behind on my Moyles show since my holiday, am only now listening to yesterdays show (nearly caught up) with Sara. What great stuff. I love Coxy and its great to have her covering if Mr Saviour is ill.

And does anyone else agree, the chemistry between Sara and Dave. Dave well fancies Sara, has done for years, and you can tell in his voice/manerisms. Think its so sweet, bless him.

Great stuff again.

Dare I say it, when Chris does move on the team we had today would make a more than satisfactory replacement. Get rid of Dave and bring in a sidekick with some talent and the ability to take over when need be and we'd have a line up to rival the present one IMO.

At the risk of another "me too"...

Absolutely fair shout to Sara for the last couple of days.. and totally agree that she should be the first choice stand-in in future. I seem to recall she's quite keen to only have regular weekend hours but be a weekday stand-in for Fearne amongst others.. in which case fair enough all-round.

People knock Mills a lot, but he suits drive brilliantly and has made that slot his own much like Moyles at breakfast. Scott at brekkie just sounds a little too similar to iPod FM, Heart etc, to me. And while Vernon does suit his weekend show well.. yes, Coxy for regular stand-in.

Shocking. Both Sarah and Dave are apple droppers. I’d make cider vinegar and apple crisps to last me through the winter, but alas being young and living in the east end I don’t have a garden.

Another great show from Sara and the team today. Could very happily listen to this show format every morning.

Up until Sara this week I thought that no other broadcaster could replicate the success that Chris has had on R1 Breakfast whenever he does decide to move on to pastures new. After this week however a show with Sara back at the helm and a good team for her to bounce off, I could certainly see having very broad appeal from students to the school run brigade! Of course whether she would want to be back on the air daily and at that time of day is a question for Sara. I guess its also a question for R1 management whether they will want to continue to aim for huge breakfasts audiences or (shudder) BBC switch-ify the R1 breakfast show in a year or two.

I do think Sara was much improved from her own breakfast days and I can even say I enjoyed the show... still not a patch on Chris though, not even close - surprisingly I think she is my second favourite presenter on Radio One now though.

Got that and the qualifying sessions (featuring the weekends other awful fatality... :( ) on a HD drive somewhere, I've got almost all post-1985 GPs. I probably got them from the same ('underground'?) racing website as you! :D

It's entirely possible that he does fancy her, Sara and Jayne are not entirely dissimilar, are they?

Another great show from Sara today, she really has been very impressive! I wonder if Chris will be aware of the praise that Sara has been getting here and presumably on the text? I wonder if he's listened?
