My geek of a work collegue finally got his last night (after the one he ordered from Car Phone Warehouse was stolen by the Yodel delivery driver). 600 notes for a phone which is 95% the same as the one he had already*... Some people have more money than sense.

Main 2 contenders are the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X - are there any better phones out there, or are there any better ones coming?

I have the HTC One S and really like it, but I suspect I don't use it to its full potential. I've never had an iPhone though, so can't really compare the two.

I have the One X and it is lovely, but my brother in law has the S3 and it is also lovely.

They have a very similar performance so you should probably go and have a look at them and decide which one you like most...or if you can wait for a month or so, the new Google Nexus device is due to come out and will probably be amazing...and even if you dont like it, the One X and the S3 prices will drop considerably

My preference would be the One X, purely because I like HTC's skin (Sense) and not Samsung's (Touchwiz) - though I've not used the version of Touchwiz on the S3, but if you root your phone, you can install stock Android on it anyway without skinning.

True, but as an out-of-the-box experience, AOSP is better

Plus the bootloader unlock is much simpler on the GN

With regards to Sense vs. TouchWiz, I had a Desire before my phone and getting rid of Sense and replacing with sense-style widgets etc was a revelation, the phone ran better and had less bloat!
