To be fair, none of us want to hurt animals. I'd much rather see a human die than an animal but we don't have to make a point about being vegetarian. Its not going to stop animals being hurt. Its still going to happen.

I know that. But my conscience would not be clear if I contributed to that suffering. Other people may be happy to and that's fine, but I never will. I'm not 'making a point' - I'm just a vegan. All I ask is respect for my choices.

I'm not vegetarian, but I take serious issue with your logic here. If everyone thought like that, no one would ever make a stand for their beliefs because 'well, it can't make a difference, can it?' What would the world be like to day if people like Emmeline Pankhurst or Martin Luther King had thought like that?

I have no issues with eating meat (or 'dead stuff' as someone I know likes to put it) personally, but, for example, I never bought a News of the World (no matter how appealing the offers for holidays, etc. that try and entice people in) since their disgusting "Name and Shame" campaign in support of the equally misguided belief in "Sarah's Law". I'm not going to go into the reasons for that now, but suffice to say that not very many people did the same thing and they remained the highest selling Sunday newspaper until they closed last year. Why should that stop me from refusing to buy it though? If everyone made a stand for their beliefs, the world would be a better place - I don't expect others to do the same, but I stick by my own principles.

I'm 37 now, how old do you have to be before 'growing out of it [anything]' is no longer a possibility...?

Humans probably deserve it more. Animals have done far less wrong than the human race have.

I feel I must offer some form of apology to Mr T as this is a beautifully constructed post, full of incite into how the young man lives his life and stands by his principles. It really is an excellent post and I have taken it off topic into ass eating territory.

Sorry Toph.

That's a gross generalisation though. What about, for a topical example, Stephen Lawrence?

Ha, no worries - it was largely ignored anyway, but what the hell, it's my opinion and I'll stick by it!

the more cows that we eat, the higher the demand - the more cows that are bred and that leads to more global warming.

bmstinton93 wrote:Humans probably deserve it more. Animals have done far less wrong than the human race have.

animals kill other animals, destroy other animal families and many other things. if they've done less wrong it's due to their physical restrictions, as opposed to a moral choice on their behalf.

Oh yeah, I know there are many many decent human beings in the world but I'm sure there is a far bigger percentage of humans that deserve to die than animals.

I would struggle to think of one single human being who I think 'deserves to die' - I don't think I could because I don't believe in it. I can think of plenty who I wouldn't think is a particularly big loss, but I couldn't wish death on a person.

I can. I personally believe in capital punishment. For example, I think the murderers of Stephen Lawrence deserve to die, controversial yeah I know.

Even Jade Goodey didn't actually DESERVE to die. Although she did, yawn, nobody cares.

BUT IT'S 2012. TWENTY TWELVE. TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE. It absolutely infuriates me that people STILL support state-sanctioned murder today and not just a few, a large number of people.

Just read this back. "Respect my vegetarianism". Why? I've never demanded respect from anyone for being a meat eater, and if I thought that vegetarianism was stupid, how could anyone expect me to respect it?
