Charity muggers are a pain in the arse. There's always a few in Aberdeen city centre. Like others, I'm all for charity, but they're still annoying.

A guy 'selling the big issue' came into the pub we were in for christmas work drinks and managed to steal 2 of our phones (one of them mine). this has now thrown my week out of sync as I need to go to the police station tomorrow and go home to hopefully pick up my phone (from insurance) on friday.

Furious.

All this charity bad practice makes me a) angry and b) wonder. We are - and have to be - SO careful to make sure that we adhere to all the legislation covering collections, because we know that if we don't we risk losing our registration. I find it hard to believe that other charities are less careful than us.

There are different regulations covering people who are collecting information, or selling - they are allowed to approach people where charity collectors are not - are you sure these people who bother you in the street are actually from a charity, not doing a survey or selling teeth whitening kits?!

eEh?

What's 'e say? Who is what? loosing what? who they whatin for?

It doesn't bother me at all, harrassing me or not, I can look them all in the eye, smile, and politely say, no thank you. I have never felt this was an issue with them, as I personally think it is more offensive to run away looking like they pissed on your shoes. If after this approach they were to be rude, get the badge number and complain, then they will stop, if they haven't got a badge they are begging, and should be reported to the Police if you feel intimidated. I find they £2 a month will save a mountain goat and we send you a cuddly toy and a * newsletter, or look at this girl crying, she was shagged up the ass at 12, just £3 a month could buy her Lubricant, shit that we get bombarded with on crappy Satelite TV stations is MUCH more offensive.

I'd guess there's a LOT of casual volunteering going on at this time - the carol singers outside John Lewis in Cambridge for example, they were collecting for a homeless charity, and I'm absolutely sure that most of the collectors have never done it before, or had only a five minute induction.

I went past thee or four times - every now and again one would break ranks and rattle, and the last time a lady invited me to help the homeless if I can, when I replied no thank you, she muttered a sarcastic reply. Now I took her to task a little, not just because it's rude, but also because of the implications her behaviour could have for the rest of them.

She seemed to be entirely unaware, which she should do.

Ugh, that's horrid. Good luck with finding it. Xx

Depends on your definition of training. We have to ensure that they are aware of what they are and aren't allowed to do - ie they must report to the resonsible person for the area they are collecting in, they are not allowed to approach anyone, speak to anyone who has not approached them, shake their tin or move from the specific pitch that they have been designated and licensed to collect in. They also have to be aware that their id and registration number has to be visible at all times, and any vessel they collect money in must have the official logo and reistration numbers clearly marked on them and again, visible at all times.

It only takes a few minutes, but I think it constitutes training, and from what you said, it clearly makes a difference...

Argh. What a * shite week. This is the first time since being at uni where I've generally felt I'd rather be at home. Just everything seems to be pissing me off now. I'm seriously hoping for a good day tomorrow as with only one week left I don't want to go into Christmas feeling this bad.

New Twitter - Like putting someone else's glasses on. Like learning to read and write again. To be fair it looks quite well organised.

I've just found out they no longer make Toffos, I had a hankering for some assorted ones, looked on Amazon who didn't even have them, searched via google & apparently Nestle just stopped making them, bastards!

They are shite though - just gummies and foams, cheap bollocks.

Does anyone remember Spangles?

They also did an Old English selection packet - although I can't for the life of me remember any of the flavours, I remember the packet was black.

Also boboff those packets in your link were for Fizzy Spangles - I don't ever remember fizzy ones, just the fruit flavour and the Old English.

Indeed, the link does provide you with a little story on the falvours.

I think Blackcurrant was my Spangle of choice back in the day.

Do you remember Tutti Frutti? Little square parcels of chewy Carbohydrate and illegal food dies? I think you can get them still, but they have made them allot smaller!

I've just read about six weeks worth of posts in this thread and I only have one thing to say.

My mate works for Toys R'Us. Apparently when the big boss man comes to see the store they all have to sing the song to him. I'm still questioning the truth in this assertion, but he swears by it.
