The Doves, Pounding

Today's Transcript:

If you remove the 'free' bit from 'Freestyler' you're left with 'styler', as in Trudie Styler who's married to Sting. Sting is what a wasp can do to you, which can be both painful and annoying. Annoying is how some people describe Dominic Byrne, but not us, we think he's great. 'Grrrreat' is the catchphrase of Tony the Frosties Tiger. Tiger Woods is a famous golfer who's won millions over the years in tournaments. Tournaments take place in lots of different sports, such as football and tennis. Tennis is played at Wimbledon, which happens in June. June Brown plays Dot Cotton in 'Eastenders'. 'Eastenders' is set in the fictional postcode E20. 20 is four times five. Five is the amount of gold rings in the song 'The Twelve Days Of Christmas', where four is for calling birds, three for French hens and two is the quantity of turtle doves, which links to The Doves and 'Pounding'.

Flaws:

Some people on the text claimed that the lyrics to the Twelve Days of Christmas are actually "four colly birds". According to wiki, the authoritative version of the lyrics (from the Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes) does state 'colly birds', but as the song is French in origin, the word 'calling' crept in as an English misinterpretation, so Dave was half right.

Ash, Girl From Mars

Today's Transcript:

Doves are released into the air as a symbol of peace. 'Peace' rhymes with 'lease', which is what you'll have if you rent a flat. Flat is what you don't want your tyres to be on your motorcycle. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' was a record by the Manic Street Preachers. Preachers tend to be more closely associated with the Church in America. 'America' was a song by Razorlight, whose lead singer Johnny Borrell used to wear big basketball boots. Boots are what you need if you're playing football, to stop you sliding around. Sliding around is what all the Norwich players were doing last night after they won promotion back to the Premier League. 'League of Their Own' is a sports-based comedy show hosted by James Corden. Cordon off is what you do if you want a private VIP area in a club. 'In Da Club' was a hit for 50 Cent. 50 cents is half a dollar if you're living in America, and living in America is what Tim Wheeler of Ash is doing now, which links to Ash and 'Girl From Mars'.

Flaws:

The Chemical Brothers, Out Of Control

Today's Transcript:

Ash was the cause of widespread international disruption last year, when it spewed out of a volcano in Iceland, resulting in people like Dominic Byrne being stranded in Majorca. Majorca is situated in the Mediterranean, which is a body of water that separates Europe from Africa. Africa stretches from Libya in the North all the way down to the South. 'South' rhymes with 'mouth', which is a part of your body that's home to your teeth. Teeth need to be brushed on a daily basis, as does your hair. Hair can be curly or straight. Straight roads are something that the Romans are introduced to the UK when they lived here years ago. Go is signified by a green light in the world of traffic signals, as opposed to stop which is signified by red. Red is the colour associated with acid in a litmus test, which is something done with chemicals, which links to The Chemical Brothers and 'Out Of Control'.

Flaws:

B*Witched, C'est La Vie

Today's Transcript:

Out of control is what you'd be if you were driving down a massive mountain in your car and the brakes failed. 'Failed' is what you don't want to see written on the sheet when your car's just been for its MOT. If you reverse the letters in 'MOT' you get 'Tom', which is the name of one quarter of McFly. McFly took their name from the character Marty McFly from the 'Back To The Future' films. The future is the opposite of the past, which is the area you deal with in the subject of history. History was never one of my favourite subjects at school, as I preferred geography and to a lesser extent biology. 'Biology' is, in my opinion, the best Girls Aloud song, and there are rumours that they're to reform. 'Reformed' is a word associated with scampi. Scampi is best served in a basket with chips. Chips are made from potatoes, which I would say are probably the most popular vegetable in the UK and certainly in Ireland. Ireland is where B*Witched are from, which links to B*Witched and 'C'est La Vie'.

Flaws:

Potatoes are not really vegetables but tubers, as they are not actually roots, but are the swollen part of the stem to which the roots are attached. According to the UK vegetable top ten (found at http://trashlounge.co.uk/2010/03/28/ran ... le-top-10/ if you would like to peruse further), onions are the UK's most popular vegetable, with cucumber and peppers completing the top three.

The Strokes, Last Nite

Today's Transcript:

"C'est la vie" is French for "that's life". 'Life' rhymes with 'knife', which is a member of the cutlery family along with fork and spoon. A spoon is a type of cuddle, which involves one person lying in front of the other or behind, depending on where you're looking. 'Just Looking' was a hit for Stereophonics. The Stereophonics are from the Welsh valleys. RAF Valley on Anglesey is where Prince William is based. If you add an 'I' to 'based' you get 'biased', which is what you don't want to be if you're a journalist. A journalist is technically what Dominic Byrne is. 'Is' rhymes with 'Fiz', which is the 'Coronation Street' character played by Jennie McAlpine. 'Alpine' is a word associated with mountains and freshness. Freshness is an important quality in the world of meat. Meat is something you tend not to see much of on a vegetarian menu. The word 'menu' was invented in France. France is a country where they have lots of poodle dogs. Dogs like attention and strokes, which links to The Strokes and 'Last Nite'.

Flaws:

You wouldn't see any meat on a vegetarian menu, rather than just not much.

Black Eyed Peas, Where Is The Love

Today's Transcript:

'Last night' describes the time that's at the very end of yesterday. 'Yesterday' was a hit for The Beatles, who come from Liverpool, which was European City of Culture in 2008. If you add up all the numbers in 2008 you get ten. 'Ten' was an album by Pearl Jam. Jam is nice to have on your toast in the morning. 'In The Morning' was a track by Razorlight. A razor light would be handy in a power cut as it would allow you to shave in the dark. Dark, in my opinion, is the less atrractive option in the world of chocolate. Chocolate is made from cocoa beans. Beans of a different type are normally served on toast. Toast is what you get if you apply heat to the outside of bread. 'Bread' rhymes with 'red', which is a colour that Manchester United are associated with. Manchester United are managed by Alex Ferguson who is sometimes known is Fergie. Fergie is also the name of a member of the Black Eyed Peas, which links to the Black Eyed Peas and 'Where Is The Love'.

Flaws:

Nothing to report, although I'd have to contest Dave's opinion that dark chocolate is inferior to milk.

My Chemical Romance, I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

Today's Transcript:

Black Eyed Peas are a band who Greg James is going to be meeting later this week along with some Big Weekend competition winners. 'Winners' rhymes with 'dinners', which is what you have to prepare a lot of if you're a chef in a restaurant. A restaurant is somewhere that you might need to book a table if it gets busy. 'Busy' rhymes with 'dizzy', which is what you'd be if you'd been spun around on a waltzer. A waltzer is what you might find at a fairground, along with a ferris wheel. Ferris Bueller is a famous film character played by Matthew Broderick, who's married to Sarah Jessica Parker from 'Sex And The City'. Manchester City were overturned at Goodison Park on Saturday by an Everton side who proved that even with billions in the bank, you can't buy team spirit. 'Spirit In The Sky' was a hit for Gareth Gates and the Kumars in a Comic Relief collaboration. Collaborate and listen are two bits of advice that you will often hear from Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice has black hair like Gerard from My Chemical Romance, which links to My Chemical Romance and 'I'm Not Okay (I Promise)'.

Flaws:

Gerard Way's hair isn't always black as he changes it, but otherwise seamless.

Foo Fighters, Times Like These

Today's Transcript:

"I'm not okay" is what you'd say if you were trapped down a mineshaft and were running out of air. Air is the name of a French production outfit whose hits include 'Kelly Watch The Stars'. Stars are what you see a lot of on the red carpet at an awards ceremony like The Brits. Brits is what Americans refer to us as, in the same way that we sometimes call them 'yanks'. Yank is what you might have to do to an old-fashioned toilet cistern in order to make it work. Work is what you're looking for if you're a jobseeker. If you remove the last two letters of the word 'seeker' and replace the first letter with an 'L' you get 'leek', which is a green vegetable you might see with a Sunday roast. Roast shouldn't be mistaken for coast, which is where the land meets the sea. The sea is where you don't want to be if you're in a small sailing boat and there's a large storm brewing. The word 'brew' rhymes with 'Foo', which links to Foo Fighters and 'Times Like These'.

Black Box, Ride On Time

Today's Transcript:

Foo Fighters are fronted by Dave Grohl, who used to be in Nirvana, who pioneered the seattle grunge scene. 'Scene' spelled without the 'C' and with the 'E's in a different position is the past tense of the verb 'to see'. See is what you do with your eyes, as opposed to listen, which is what you do with your ears. Some people have small ears, whilst others have big ears. Big Ears ws the name of the best mate of Noddy. Noddy Holder is a music legend and also advertises a range of nuts. Nuts can be dangerous for people who suffer from a nut allergy. Ali G is the name of a character of Sacha Baron Cohen, who also brought us Borat. Borat is from Khazakstan, which is a long way to fly on a plane. Planes have a flight recorder also known as a black box, which links to Black Box and 'Ride On Time'.

Flaws:

Nirvana didn't pioneer grunge at all. Many bands such as Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Tad can be credited with first putting the sound on record, while Nirvana didn't sign to a record label until several years later. However, they did help bring grunge into the mainstream, which was probably what Dave meant.

The Darkness, I Believe In A Thing Called Love

Today's Transcript:

On time is what things tend to be in Switzerland, as everything runs like clockwork. 'A Clockwork Orange' is a controversial film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Bricks are combined with mortar to build a house. 'House' is what you shout during a game of bingo, which is what we did last week in Carlisle. Weak is the opposite of strong. Mr Strong was one of the Mr Men, along with Mr Nobody, Mr Tickle and Mr Bump. 'Bump' rhymes with 'dump', which is where you go to clear out a load of rubbish. Rubbish in America is called garbage. Garbage had a hit with 'Only Happy When It Rains'. When it rains it tends to move into a period of darkness, which links to The Darkness and 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'.

All Saints, I Know Where It's At

Today's Transcript:

The Darkness are the biggest rock band ever to come out of Lowestoft. Lowestoft is in the far east of the country. The far East also describes places like China, Japan and Vietnam, to name three. Three is the number of members in the Sugababes, and the total amount of members the band has had at any one time. 'One Time' was a hit for Justin Bieber, charting at number eleven. Eleven is the number of years it's been since we celebrated the Millenium. 'Millenium' was the title of the first number one single for Robbie Williams, in 1998. 1998 was the year that France hsted the World Cup, and France have won the bid to host the Ryder Cup in 2018. If somebody asked you today where the Ryder Cup would be in 2018 you could say "I know where it's at", which links to All Saints and 'I Know Where It's At'.

Air, Sexy Boy

Today's Transcript:

All Saints were made up of four girls, a bit like The Saturdays but with one less member. Membership is what you need to be part of a golf club, where dress codes tend to be overly fussy and strict. 'Strictly Come Dancing' is a TV show hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, who's from Derbyshire. Derbyshire is known for its Peak District. 'Peak' rhymes with 'teak', which is a type of hardwood used to make heavy furniture. Heavy furniture is not what you want to be humping around if you're a removal man with a bad back. A bad back is a common cause of time off work for many people and can be very painful. Something else that can be very painful is toothache, and if you have toothache you should go to the dentist. A dentist is a bit like a doctor, except that he or she just looks after your mouth. Mouth is a word that's also associated with rivers, like say the River Seine in France. Today's Transcript:

Air is what we need to breathe, while 'Breathe' was a big hit for The Prodigy. The Prodigy are from Essex, which has given us 'The Only way Is Essex', which last night won a BAFTA. The BAFTAs are a glitzy award ceremony where everyone gets dressed up and drinks free champagne. Champagne comes from France, as opposed to Prosecco which comes from Italy. The capital of Italy is Rome, which is famous for its Coliseum. The Coliseum in Rome shouldn't be mistaken for the Coliseum in Watford, which is where we saw Oasis do a gig a few years ago. 'Go' in the world of traffic lights is symbolised by green, as opposed to red which is the colour for stop. 'Stop' is a song title that links Erasure with Black Rebel Motorcyle Club. You can have clubs for all sorts of sports, from golf to rowing. In rowing the person at the end who does the shouting is called the coxon, which links to Graham Coxon and 'Freakin' Out'.

Amerie, One Thing

Today's Transcript:

Graham Coxon shares the same first name as Graham Norton, who hosted the BAFTAs on Sunday night. Sunday is traditionally a day for eating roast beef, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Pudding is what the French call a dessert. A dessert shouldn't be mistaken for a desert, which is a naturally dry habitat where you might find a lot of camels. Camels have humps, which is what they store water in. Water is essential for all life, and even cacti contain water which they need to grow in the heat. Heat of a different type is a qualifier before a big race or event. Events don't get much bigger than Radio 1's Hackney Weekend, in fact the only thing bigger is probably the actual Olympics. The Olympics were invented by the Greeks, who were also responsible for houmous. Houmous is a nice snack, and if you were eating houmous you would probably combine it with other snacks rather than having it as just one thing, which links to Amerie and 'One Thing'.

Flaws:

Camels do not store water in their humps as is commonly believed; the humps are actually a reservoir of fatty tissue.

Today's Transcript:

If you only had one thing in your basket at the supermarket, it would be very easy to pack your bags on your own. 'On Your Own' was a hit for Blur. Blur's Alex James is currently appearing in a show called 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', which I watched last night. 'Last Night' was a hit for The Strokes, who played at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Carlisle. Carlisle United play their home matches at Brunton Park. Park-Ji Sung is from South Korea and plays for Manchester United. Manchester United have won the league once again, making this title number nineteen. 'Nineteen' was a hit for Paul Hardcastle, who's also written TV themes such as the BBC show 'Holiday'. If you go on holiday it's important to wear sunscreen to stop you from going red. The Coral, Dreaming Of You

Today's Transcript:

Red alert is the highest level of alert, above amber. Amber is a colour used a lot in the world of traffic lights. Traffic lights are important in road safety, as they control traffic at busy junctions. Busy junctions in the world of rail don't come much busier than Clapham Junction in South London. South London is the birthplace of David Bowie, who's married to Iman. Iman is originally from Somalia in Africa. Africa has lots of wild animals like lions and elephants. Elephants have big trunks and are quite good at swimming. Being good at swimming is crucial if you want to be a scuba diver somewhere exotic like the Great Barrier Reef. Today's Transcript:

Coral is a living marine organism, which tend to be home to tropical fish. Tropical fish are what some people keep as pets, in a large tank which they have to regularly clean. Clean is the opposite of dirty, while 'Dirrty' was a big hit for Christina Aguilera and Redman. Redman, first name Amanda, is an actress who is also the former sister-in-law of Philip Glennister from 'Ashes To Ashes'. 'Ashes' was a big hit for Embrace, while an embrace is basically a posh word for a hug. 'Hug' rhymes with 'tug', which is a small boat used to pull large ships around in a harbour. 'Harbour' rhymes with 'barber', which is a person who cuts men's hair. Hair can be removed from the body by waxing or electrolysis. Electrolysis shouldn't be mistaken for photosynthesis, which is something that plants do. A, Nothing

Today's Transcript:

Cherries grow on a stalk and contain stones. Stones, along with sticks, can break your bones, but names will never hurt you. 'U' is represented in the phonetic alphabet by the word 'umbrella'. 'Umbrella' was a hit for Rihanna, who's from Barbados. Barbados is an island in the Caribbean, and is somewhere they play a lot of cricket. Cricket is the sport that made famous Phil Tufnell, who's now a presenter on 'The One Show'. 'The One Show' is hosted by Alex Jones and Matt Baker, who did 'Strictly Come Dancing' last year. 'Strictly Come Dancing' has a panel of four judges, one of whom is Alesha Dixon. Alesha Dixon used to be in Mis-teeq, whose biggest hit was 'Scandalous' in 2003. 2003 was also the year that 'Leave Right Now' was a hit for Will Young. Will Young's name contains all the vowels except 'E' and 'A', which links to A and 'Nothing'.

Flaws:

'U' in the phonetic alphabet is represented by 'uniform', not 'umbrella'. Also, 'Scandalous' was not Mis-Teeq's biggest hit, as their earlier single 'All I Want' equalled it by reaching no2 in the charts.

Today's Transcript:

The bass player in A was Radio 1's Daniel P Carter, who is a good example of somebody who has a one-letter middle name, like William G Stewart, who used to host 'Fifteen To One'. 'Fifteen To One' was brilliant, and I think they should bring it back. 'Bring It Back' was a hit for McAlmont & Butler. A butler is what posh people used to have in the olden days, to wait on them and do stuff around the house. 'House' rhymes with 'mouse', but while the plural of 'house' is 'houses', the plural of 'mouse' is 'mice'. Mice can be a nuisance and generally make a mess. If you swap the first letter of 'mess' for an 'N' you get 'Ness', as in Loch Ness, which is somewhere that Dominic would like to live so that he can look for the famous monster. 'Waterfalls' was the title of a song by TLC. TLC is what you need when you're poorly, along with medicine and maybe some chicken soup. 'Soup du jour' is what you might see on the menu if you were dining in France, meaning 'soup of the day'. Today is Monday, which is traditionally the most rubbish day of the week, especially when it's raining. If you add a 'T' to the front of 'raining' you get 'training', which is what you need to do a lot of if you're planning to run a marathon. Marathon running puts strain on your knees, which take a bit of a pounding. 'Pounding' is the title of a song by Doves. Doves are a type of bird, a bit like pigeons and vultures. Deee-Lite, Groove Is In The Heart

Today's Transcript:

El Salvador shares one name in common with Salvador Dali the painter, who was a big name in the field of art. If you add a 'B' to the front of 'art' you get 'Bart', who's the son of Marge and Homer Simpson, who also have a daughter called Lisa, who plays the saxophone. The saxophone has not been seen much in pop music in recent years, although Lady Gaga has reintroduced the sax solo in her current single 'Edge Of Glory'. Glory is what you want to be snatching from the jaws of defeat in the world of sport. If you remove the first letter of 'sport' you get 'port', which in nautical terms is left, as opposed to 'starboard' which is right. Right is also the opposite of wrong, and two wrongs don't make a right, ever. 'Everybody In Love' was a hit for JLS, whose Marvin goes out with Rochelle from The Saturdays, while Frankie goes out with Wayne Bridge, who used to play for Chelsea but now doesn't speak to captain John Terry. John Terry was born in 1980, and if you travel forward ten years you get to 1990. 1990 was the year that Deee-Lite had their only real hit, which links to Deee-Lite and 'Groove Is In The Heart'.

Groove might be in your heart, but home is actually where the heart is. Home is where you want to be when you realise they've cancelled your train and laid on a replacement bus service. A service of a different type is what you put your car in for regularly, to make sure everything is all right. 'Alright' is a song title that linked Supergrass and Jamiroquai in the 90s. The 90s is when Britpop was at its height, and there was a huge chart battle between Oasis and Blur. 'Blur' sounds like 'buerre', which is the French word for butter. 'Butter wouldn't melt' is what you might say about someone who's very polite and doesn't use bad language. Language is what you might need to learn if you plan on moving to a foreign country. A clash of heads can be dangerous when two players go for the same ball in football. Football was invented years ago, when people apparently started kicking around a pig's bladder. Country and Western is a type of music popular in much of the USA, especially the Deep South and the Midwest. West, first name Adam, is the American actor best known for playing Batman. Batman used to fight baddies like the Riddler. A riddle is something you need to try to work out. 'Work It Out' was a hit for Beyonce, who is headlining at this year's Glastonbury. Time flies when you're having fun, and drags when you're not. If you add a 'K' to the front of 'not' you get 'knot', which you might put in a rope for sailing. Sailing tends to be more common in coastal areas or places with a large lake. Lake Geneva is in Switzerland, which is known for producing chocolate and knives with attachments for getting stones out of horses' hooves. 'Hooves' rhymes with 'roofs', which is what you see if you look down over an urban area while on board an aircraft. Aircraft have plane-spotters, who are the aeronautical equivalent of those who spend their time trainspotting. 'Trainspotting' was a film starring Ewan McGregor, who has ridden round the world on a bike from North to South. If you take 'us' off the end of Wheatus you're left with 'wheat', which is used to make bread and cereals. Cereal is a nice thing to have for breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day according to nutrition experts. Experts specialise in all sorts of different areas, from rabbits to bread and everything inbetween. 'The Inbetweeners' is a TV show starring Simon Bird. A bird in the hand is apparently worth two in the bush. The bush is what the Australians call the outback, where there are lots of kangaroos and dingoes walking around. 'Walking Away' was a hit for Craig David, who recently did a charity walk across Africa with Scott Mills and Kara Tointon, who also won 'Strictly Come Dancing'. 'Strictly Come Dancing' is hosted by Sir Bruce Forsyth, who got his knighthood this week. Weak is how some people like their tea. Tea is drunk everywhere from Guildford to Glasgow, and Glasgow is where Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream is from, which links to Primal Scream and 'Come Together'.
