Zoe, Sunshine On A Rainy Day

Today's Transcript:

If you combine the word 'Len' with 'Goodman' you get Len Goodman, who's on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. 'Dancing In The Moonlight' was a hit for Toploader, who sound like they're named after a washing machine. A washing machine takes two people to lift, and would really hurt if it fell on your foot. The plural of 'foot' is 'feet', which rhymes with 'seat', which is what you'd hope to find on the bus. The plural of 'bus' is 'buses', which tend to turn up two at a time, a bit like the animals that Noah put on his ark. Noah's ark was made out of wood. wood, first name Ronnie, used to be in the Small Faces with Rod Stewart. Rod Stewart has a football pitch in his back garden. Gardens need to be mown, otherwise they get overgrown. If you remove the 'R' from 'grown' you get 'gown', which is what a lady might wear to a posh ball. Ball, first name Zoe, lives in Brighton, and Brighton can be really sunny in summer and really rainy in winter. If you had a day where there was rain and then sunshine you might say there was 'sunshine on a rainy day', which links to Zoe and 'Sunshine On A Rainy Day'.

Flaws:

Guns N' Roses, Sweet Child O' Mine

Today's Transcript:

A rainy day is what we had yesterday, where there was virtually no sunshine. Sunshine Anderson shares the same surname as Pamela Anderson, who was in panto recently in Liverpool and wasn't complimentary about the people or the city. 'City' rhymes with 'pity', which is what people might feel for you if you were going through hard times. 'Times Like These' was a hit for the Foo Fighters, who have a new album out. An album is a collection of songs that people used to buy on vinyl, cassette or compact disc. The word 'disc' is almost an anagram of 'skid', which is what you have to be careful not to do when the roads are covered in ice. Ice is frozen water and only occurs when conditions are very cold. 'Cold As Ice' was a hit for M.O.P, which spells 'mop', which is what you use to do the floors. Floors of a different type are what you find a lot of in tall buildings. There are lots of tall buildings in Los Angeles, which is where Guns N' Roses are from, which links to Guns N' Roses and 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.

Flaws:

Nothing to report.

Bass-O-Matic, Fascinating Rhythm

Today's Transcript:

Sweet Child O' Mine was taken from the album 'Appetite For Destruction'. Destruction is what results from natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. Earthquakes occur in San Fransisco more than most due to its geographical proximity to faults and the meeting of tectonic plates. Plates of a different type are what you'd see a lot of if you worked in a kitchen. 'Kitchen' rhymes with 'stitchin'', which you'd do a lot of if your business is dress alteration. Dress alterations normally involve a needle and thread. 'Thread' rhymes with 'dead', which is how you'd describe a car battery if it was as flat as a pancake. Pancake day is an annual event and is also known as Shrove Tuesday. Tuesday is the worst day of the week, I reckon, and the word 'week' is made up of four letters, like 'beef', 'shoe', 'willy', 'door', 'pony' and 'bass'. When you think of the word 'bass' in the context of great songs from yesteryear you think of Bass-O-Matic, which links to Bass-O-Matic and 'Fascinating Rhythm'.

Flaws:

The word 'willy' has five letters, not four...

Salt 'N' Pepa featuring En Vogue, Whatta Man

Today's Transcript:

The word 'rhythm' is unique as it's the only word in the English language not to contain a vowel. Vowels are one option when picking letters on 'Countdown', with the other being consonants. Consonants shouldn't be mistaken for continents like Asia or Africa. Africa is where Matt Fincham bought our wooden giraffes from that we assembled into a desktop safari. A safari is a good thing to go on to see wild animals in their natural habitat. Habitat is where we bought some of our cutlery. Cutlery is often grouped in a store with crockery, which is a term for plates, bowls and cups. Cups can also be found on bras, and the size is denoted by lettering, with 'A' meaning 'urr' and 'D' meaning 'ding-dong'. 'Dong' is the sound made by a large bell like Big Ben. Ben is the first name of former athlete Ben Jonson, and before he got busted for being a drugs cheat people thought he was incredible and probably thought "what a man", which links to Salt 'N' Pepa and 'Whatta Man'.

Flaws:

There are in fact many words in the English language that contain no vowels, and Dave mentioned some of these in his post-link analysis: 'dry', 'try', 'sky', 'myth', 'hymn', 'pygmy' and 'gypsy' to name a few.

Travis, Turn

Today's Transcript:

Salt and pepper are known as condiments, which means you normally have them on the table, unless you're eating somewhere posh where the chef won't let you have them. The word 'them' is often coupled with the word 'us'. If you add a 'B' to the front of the word 'us' you get 'bus', which I think is an abbreviation of the word 'omnibus', although 'omnibus' is really only used to describe a weekly catch-up of 'Corrie' or 'Eastenders'. 'Eastenders' started in 1985, the same year that Live Aid took place in London and Philadelphia. 'Philadelphia' was a film starring Tom Hanks. 'Hanks' rhymes with 'tanks', which are large armoured vehicles used by the army. At the end of you armies you find your andies, although the Andes is also a range of mountains in South America. South America contains Argentina and Colombia. 'Columbia' is a track from the Oasis album 'Definitely Maybe', which was released in 1994, the same year the World Cup was held in the USA. The President of the USA is Barack Obama, who lives in the White House in Washington. Washington is the capital of America, in the same way that Berlin is the capital of Germany. Berlin is where Fran from Travis now lives, which links to Travis and 'Turn'.

Flaws:

'Omnibus' is an archaic term that was shortened to 'bus', so technically seamless.

Alanis Morissette, Ironic

Today's Transcript:

Turn is what a kebab does to ensure it's perfectly cooked before it's carved and served with chili sauce. 'Sauce' rhymes with 'horse', which is an animal that you can ride. 'Ride on Time' was a hit for Black Box, while a black box is also what they call a flight recorder on an aircraft, which can provide clues in the event of a crash. If you remove the 'R' from 'crash' you get 'cash', which is what you can now convert your gold into by sending it off in the post. Post gets delivered by the Royal Mail, but it's also a word meaning 'after'. After is the opposite of before, which is what the 'B' stands for in 'BC'. BC are also the initials of Bev Callard, who plays Liz McDonald in 'Coronation Street'. 'Coronation Street' recently had a dramatic storyline involving a tram. 'Tram' rhymes with 'ham', which is what you get in America if you order Canadian bacon. 'Canadian' is what you'd say to someone if they asked "what nationality is Alanis Morissette?", which links to Alanis Morissette and 'Ironic'.

De La Soul, The Magic Number

Today's Transcript:

'Ironic' was taken from the album 'Jagged Little Pill'. A pill might be prescribed by your doctor. A doctor is someone who washes their hands a lot to stop the spread of germs. 'Germs' rhymes with 'perms', which were popular in the 1980s with footballers keen to have curly hair like Kevin Keegan. Kevin Keegan shares the same surname as Michelle Keegan, who's from 'Corrie' and goes out with him from The Wanted. 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' was the title of a hit for Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi shouldn't be mistaken for Bonjela, which is what you put on mouth ulcers. Ulcers are sometimes brought on by stress, which is not healthy and people who get stressed need to relax. Relaxation is sometimes helped by yoga, which soothes the mind, body and soul. If you translated the phrase 'of the soul' into French it would be "de la soul", which links to De La Soul and 'The Magic Number'.

Flaws:

There are many potential causes of mouth ulcers, including mouth trauma, viral infections, immunodeficiency and dietary deficiencies, but not stress. Also, French for 'of the soul' would be 'de la ame'.

The Bucketheads, The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)

Today's Transcript:

The plural of 'number' is 'numbers', and numbers can increase to infinity. Infinity means that there is no end or ceiling. A ceiling can be tricky to paint and often involves getting paint in your hair. Hair comes in all different shapes and colours, from black and blonde to short and long. Long is how you'd describe the queues at a theme park in August. August in order of months is number eight. Number eight is also a position in rugby union, and is basically the big fella or lady that pushes from the back of the scrum. 'Scrum' rhymes with 'chum', which I think is what they put into the sea to attract sharks. Some sharks are nice, while others are nasty and like to eat people. Some people like to stand out while others prefer to be anonymous. If you didn't want people to recognise you you could always obscure your identity by putting a bucket over your head, which links to The Bucketheads and 'The Bomb'.

Skee-Lo, I Wish

Today's Transcript:

If you swap the first letter of 'bomb' for a 'C' you get 'comb', which is something you use to do your hair. A hare of a different type is like a rabbit but slightly different, and has either bigger or smaller ears, I'm not sure. Rabbits like to live together in a house which they call a warren. Warren, first name Frank, is a big name in the world of boxing promotion. Boxing Day has nothing to do with actual boxing, and is just the day after Christmas Day, which is a time to fall out with family and gorge yourself on leftover mince pies and chocolates. Chocolates are not a good thing to have in your house if you're on a diet. The word 'diet' is an anagram of 'tied', which is what a ferry might be when docked in port. Port is the word for left in naval-speak. If you remove the first letter of 'speak' you get 'peak', which could be like a mountain you ski down. 'Ski down' basically means the same thing as 'ski low', which links to Skee-Lo and 'I Wish'.

Flaws:

Hares have larger ears than rabbits. Also ferries are moored rather than tied.

Girls Aloud, Love Machine

Today's Transcript:

A wish is what you traditionally make before you blow out the candles on your birthday cake. Birthday cake normally gets cut into pieces and handed out in napkins. If you remove the first three letters of 'napkin' you get 'kin', which is a word associated with your family tree. The family trees of celebrities provide the focal point of the BBC series 'Who Do You Think You Are'. 'R' in the alphabet is letter number 18, while 18 is the shirt number of Everton's Gary Neville, who's not going to Spurs. Spurs are what a cowboy wears on his heels to encourage a horse to run faster. 'Faster' rhymes with 'pasta', which is pretty much the staple diet in Italy. Italy is geographically shaped a bit like a boot. 'Aboot' is how you'd say 'about' if you were from Canada. Canada is famous for mounties, snow and geese. 'Geese' is a G-word that has five letters, like 'grass', 'gravy' and 'girls', which links to Girls Aloud and 'Love Machine'.

Flaws:

Phil Neville wears the no18 shirt for Everton, not Gary.

Jinny, Keep Warm

Today's Transcript:

Girls Aloud have gone permanently quiet, with the members of the band all doing their own thing. 'Thing' rhymes with 'sing', which is what you do at karaoke. Karaoke was invented by the Japanese, who were also responsible for the invention of sushi and bullet trains. Train stations normally have car parks that operate a pay and display system. System Of A Down are a metal band of Armenian descent but based in Los Angeles, California. California's flag features a large bear. Large bears like to catch wild salmon using their paws. Pause is what you can do with your hard disk satellite recording system if you need to go for a wee. 'Wee' is another word for 'small' in Scotland, and Scotland can be chilly at this time of year which means that it's important to wrap up and keep warm, which links to Jinny and 'Keep Warm'.

Bon Jovi, Livin' On A Prayer

Today's Transcript:

Keeping warm must be your primary concern if you're an Eskimo living in an igloo. Igloos are made of blocks of ice and do a good job protecting from arctic winds, snowstorms and polar bears. Polar bears can be scary, especially if you make them angry. Angry Anderson is an Australian singer whose hit 'Suddenly' was first dance at the 'Neighbours' wedding of Scott and Charlene, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue. Kylie Minogue is approximately the same weight as seven bags of crisps. Crisps are made from potatoes, which live in the ground, a bit like moles. Moles have bad eyesight and should really eat more carrots. 'Carrots' is what you would see written on the name board in 'Family Fortunes' if Jasper Carrott ever took his family on the show with Vernon Kay. Vernon has recently been living and working in America, and America is where Bon Jovi are from, which links to Bon Jovi and 'Livin' On A Prayer'.

Flaws:

A few issues today. Angry Anderson's 'Suddenly' wasn't the first dance at Scott and Charlene's wedding, it was played as they walked down the aisle; Jasper Carrott's real surname is Davis and that's the name his actor daughter Lucy uses, so that's what would probably be on the board on 'Family Fortunes'; and Kylie probably weighs a bit more than seven bags of crisps.

Chemical Brothers, Setting Sun

Today's Transcript:

A prayer is something you say in church on a Sunday, while a sundae of a different type is what you might have as a treat after your main meal when you're out for dinner. 'Dinner' rhymes with 'winner', as in Michael Winner, who's directed a few films but is probably most famous for his catchphrase "calm down dear". A deer is the animal that venison comes from. venison, first name Barry, shares something in common with Andy Carroll, as he too has played for both Newcastle United and Liverpool. Liverpool is the most Westerly city on the M62, with the most Easterly being Hull. Hull has a population of approximately 300,000 people, which is equivalent to the number of listeners this show has put on in the latest survey. A survey normally involves a small group of people known as a sample. A sample of a different type is what you might have to provide when you go to see the doctor. Dr Fox is not a real doctor, in the same way that Pontius Pilate wasn't a pilot. Pilots have to fly planes at all hours, including just before dusk when there is a setting sun, which links to Chemical Brothers and 'Setting Sun'.

Flaws:

It's fairly obvious that Pontius Pilate wasn't a pilot, as they are two different words.

MC Hammer, U Can't Touch This

Today's Transcript:

The setting sun is a daily highlight when you're on holiday in Ibiza, and in Westerly facing spots like San Antonio the sun is applauded nightly. If you remove the 'L' from 'nightly' you get 'nighty', which is what ladies wear as an alternative to pyjamas. Pyjamas are sometimes referred to by the abbreviation 'PJs', while 'PJ' are also the initials of 'Dragon's Den' star Peter Jones. Peter Jones is loaded and good at tennis, and in that respect shares two things in common with Jonathan Ross. Jonathan Ross is friends with Russell Brand, who's now living in Hollywood and married to Katy Perry. Katy Perry must really like Bonfire Night because of her love for fireworks. Fireworks are dangerous and should always be handled with care. 'Care' rhymes with 'hair', while hair can be long or short, a bit like skirts. Skirts are worn predominantly by girls, although you sometimes see them on Eddie Izzard. Eddie Izzard has a unique dress sense, a bit like MC Hammer, which links to MC Hammer and 'U Can't Touch This'.

Primal Scream, Movin' On Up

Today's Transcript:

'You can't touch this' is what a museum curator might say if you put your sticky fingers all over a priceless Ming vase or Renaissance painting. Painting is something that Picasso and Leonardo Da Vinci were good at, and they were both Italian like Gino D'Acampo. Gino D'Acampo is mates with both Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. Holly Willoughby shares the same first name as Holly Valance, whose biggest hit was 'Kiss Kiss'. 'Kiss' was a big hit for Prince and was also covered by Tom Jones. 'Jones' rhymes with 'bones', which is what you might find if you were doing archaeology. Archaelogy is something you can study at university, like media studies, philosophy or biology. 'Biology' was a hit for Girls Aloud, whose Nadine Coyle is from Northern Ireland. If you took the ferry from Larne in Northern Ireland to Stranraer you'd be in Scotland, and Scotland is where Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream is from, which links to Primal Scream and 'Movin' On Up'.

Flaws:

The ferry from Larne no longer goes to Stranraer, and also Picasso was Spanish rather than Italian.

Today's Transcript:

Movin' on up is what you'd hope to be doing career-wise if things were going well in your job. 'Job' rhymes with 'bob', which is what ducks do up and down on a pond. If you swap the first letter of 'pond' for a 'B' you get 'bond', which is the surname that links Special Agent James with friend of the Royals Jennie. Jennie Bond did 'I'm A Celebrity', and in that respect shares something in common with Joe Bugner. Joe Bugner made his name in boxing, like Ricky Hatton, who I weirdly had a dream about the other night, where I ended up being invited out for dinner with Ricky and his family in Manchester. Manchester is where 'Coronation Street' is filmed, and one of the most famous parts of the street is the Rovers Return. Return is one of two options in train tickets. 'Ticket' rhymes with 'wicket', which is what you do in cricket, and the umpire will normally run down and point his finger. Blink 182, What's My Age Again

Today's Transcript:

Linger is a word that you might associate with a trump that hangs around like a bad smell. A bad smell often comes from drains, and if your drains are blocked they might need rodding. If you add a 'P' to the front of 'rodding' you get 'prodding', which is what would be happening if somebody was sticking their fingers into your sides. Sides of a different type are what you might find on the menu of an American diner. If the manager of an American diner was called Tom you might call it 'Tom's Diner', which was a hit for Suzanne Vega. Suzanne Vega's surname is only one letter away from that of Lou Bega, who's best known for his hit 'Mambo No5'. Five is the square root of 25, which is a quarter of a century. 'Century' shares the same word beginning as 'centurion'. Centurions were fashionable around the time of the Romans. Romans is what they still call people from Rome, which is the capital of Italy. 'Italy' begins with the letter 'I'. Eye of a different type is what you have two of, and if you had something in your eye you might have to blink, which links to Blink 182 and 'What's My Age Again'.

Today's Transcript:

"What's my age again" is up there with "na na what's my name" in terms of questions that should make you worry. If you swap the first letter of 'worry' for an 'L' you get 'lorry', which is what Brits call a truck. A truck is what Kris Kristofferson drives in the movie 'Convoy', while a convoy is also what Steven seagal has when he wants to move from a film set to his big house in the desert. If you add a 'S' to 'desert' you get 'dessert', which is what I had yesterday with my lunch and my tea. Mighty White is something that Chris won't be buying anymore as he's officially off bread. Bread is what Jesus shared with 5000 people, who clearly didn't have issues with wheat intolerance. Intolerance of others is a bad quality and doesn't promote unity and happiness. 'Happiness' is the title of a song by Alexis Jordan. Alexis Jordan shares one name in common with Michael Jordan, who's good at basketball. Wales is who Aled supports in all sports, and last night Aled had a prime spot right in front of the stage at the Brit Awards, which were hosted by James Corden. Today's Transcript:

'Express Yourself' was also a big hit by Madonna, which certainly doesn't sound anything like the new one by Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga once wore a dress made out of meat. The word 'meat' is an anagram of 'team', and we all know there's no 'I' in 'team', otherwise it would be 'Tim'. Tim is a name that connects showbiz legends Westwood and Henman. Tim Henman never won Wimbledon, but everybody hopes that one day Andy Murray will. 'Will' rhymes with 'bill', which is like the mouth of a duck. Duck is what you should do if somebody throws a shoe at your head. Your head is what you should try to keep during times of stress, pressure and anxiety, which I would imagine are emotions currently being experienced by Aled and Sam as we try to execute another amazing birthday show. 'Friends' is a telly show that launched the career of Matt LeBlanc. 'Le blanc' translated from French to English means 'the white'. White is the colour of polar bears, which is why they blend into their snowy, icy surroundings in places like Canada. Bare is how you'd feel if you'd been skinny dipping in a lake and someone had stolen all your clothes. 'Clothes' is a word that commonly comes before 'shopping' and 'peg'. Manic Street Preachers, Motorcycle Emptiness

Today's Transcript:

'Sabotage' is a good example of a word which is the same in both English and French, a bit like 'baguette' and 'au pair'. An au pair is basically a fancy-sounding nanny. Nanny McPhee is a film character played by Emma Thompson, who's mates with Stephen Fry. Fry is the best way of cooking chips. Chips of a different type are what you play for in a casino, then you cash them in at the end of the night and exchange them for money. Money is also known as currency, and different countries have different currencies, which is why you have to get money changed before going on holiday. A holiday is what the Americans call a vacation, which shouldn't be mistaken for a vocation, which is a job that someone is particularly drawn to or suited to. Suited is how you might describe a man dressed for a posh occasion, like Chris was yesterday and me, Dom and Aled weren't. Aled is from Wales, which is also where the Manic Street Preachers are from, which links to Manic Street Preachers and 'Motorcycle Emptiness'.

Flaws:

'Sabotage', 'baguette' and 'au pair' are not words that are the same in English and French, they are French words that English speakers have adopted into their language.

The Beloved, Hello

Today's Transcript:

The Manic Street Preachers are fronted by James Dean Bradfield, who shares two of his three names with movie legend James Dean, who is a good example of a dead celebrity who appears a lot on posters, a bit like Marilyn Monroe. Both Marilyn Monroe's initials begin with the same letter, a bit like Lindsay Lohan and Sharon Stone. Sharon Stone starred in 'Basic Instinct' alongside Michael Douglas, who's now starring in the new version of 'Wall Street'. Wall Street is the main financial institution in New York. New York is apparently so good they named it twice. Twice is how many times Heston Blumenthal fries his chips. Chips are combined with fish to create the national dish of these shores. If you combine the word 'pure' with 'shores' you get 'Pure Shores', which is probably the best song by All Saints. All Saints included Nicole and Natalie Appleton. Nicole is a French name, and one of the first words you learn in French is 'bonjour' which means 'hello', which links to The Beloved and 'Hello'.

Flaws:

Nothing to report today.

Green Day, Welcome To Paradise

Today's Transcript:

The video for The Beloved's other big hit 'Sweet Harmony' featured Tess Daly. Tess Daly shares one name in common with Daley Thompson from athletics in the 80s. 'Acceptable In The 80s' was a hit for Calvin Harris, who's big mates with Dizzee Rascal. Dizzee Rascal has had many hits including 'Holiday' and 'Bonkers'. 'Bonkers' rhymes with 'conkers', which grow on a chestnut tree. Trees collectively make up a wood or a forest. 'A Forest' was the first top 40 hit for The Cure. Cure is a word associated with illess, but can also be applied to stuff like ham. Ham is a handy meat to have in your fridge as it's easy to make sandwiches out of. Sandwiches were invented by the Earl of Sandwich, who was the first person to eat stuff between two slices of bread. When bread goes off it gets mouldy, and the mould normally looks green, which links to Green Day and 'Welcome To Paradise'.

Flaws:

Once again problem-free.
