Thank you. He was 14, which is old for a poodle - they don't usually make it past 10, so he'd had a good innings. And although he'd clearly been getting less happy over the last few weeks, he was only having any real problems just today, so its not as though he had a miserable time of it.

Can I just ask you all though - if I ever say anything on here which makes you think I am considering getting another dog (which will almost certainly happen), could you please either a) have me sectioned or b) shoot me.

Sad News.

As you say, not long and you can get shot of all the kids and pets, have lots of jiggy jiggy with Mr Y at various "squash" tournaments!

Sorry to hear about your dog Yuds, I've lost a few cats myself over the years, the way how the last one died my Dad said it put him off having another pet again, just too emotional. :(

I'm not sentimental about my pets to the extent that I'd spend a fortune on vets bills keeping an old sick dog or cat alive - but I do love them, and I'll miss that stupid animal. And I'll probably end up replacing him too, although I hope I retain my good sense enough not to get another dog, not while we're both working full time. Another cat one day maybe.

Knew it was coming but still gutted.Big boots to fill.

Not going to be easy to find a replacement either.

I don't see anyone in the current squad being able to sufficently fill that gap on a regular basis

I'm sorry about Mo Yudster. Clearly to reach the age of 14 he'd had a good life.

I still haven't been able to bring myself to replace our last cat Amber, who died a few years ago.

Ok, I have now had virtually no hearing at all in my left ear for three weeks, and my right ear isn't great either. I know exactly what the problem is - build up of ear wax (sorry to anybody who is eating at the moment....). I have been to the doctor time and time again with this problem over many many years, and there seems to be nothing they can do to help - syringing doesn't work, neither do drops - and it seems they have NOTHING else to offer.

Why is this? Why is there not a simple, effective and straightforward method of removing wax from ears? Its so simple - its non-invasive (in surgical terms), its accessible (or would be surely, with a properly designed instrument....) and from time to time a significant proportion of the population have problems with it. Some, like me, have huge problems, to the extent that I have been told my hearing is possibly permanently compromised. That notwithstanding, its incredibly painful and unpleasant, and like I said its gone on for WEEKS! Yet as far as the medical profession is concerned this is a forgotten corner of physiology, and they seem content to let it remain that way.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to alternative solutions? I have heard mixed reviews of Ear Candles, but I am going to find a practitioner and give that a go (I can't do it myself, I'd probably set fire to the curtains or something). But if there's anything else you can suggest, please, I'll try anything, I'm desperate.

I'm sure I said this to you before....but my mother-in-law suffers from something similar.....she goes to see a consultant every 6 months who sucks teh wax out of her ears. they use a little hoover thingy (I dont think its one of those desktop Henry the hoover thingys). Her problems got caused by them syringing her ears in the first place and they couldnt dry out properly.

Ask your Doctor about that (I'll as the mo in lo what the technical name is for it)

Thank you - I will. And yes, I think you have mentioned this before - the technical term will be useful though, thanks a lot Duck.

And yes, it is still annoying me today.

It took me a little while thinking "why would a lack of bowls give someone a bruise on their neck?" before I realised the two things were separate.......

Quite often actually, I like browsing in music shops, you end up finding stuff you didn't even know was out (there were several bands that had albums out last year that I didn't even know about) and you end up discovering new bands whilst browsing around, something you don't online as you just go on a website, purchase what you want & then sod off.
