I like the bit about "proof of the delusion". There's no difference between a scale (do re mi) and monotone (do do do) according to science.

Wrong, science says that the noise is produced by vibration. The "note" produced depends on the frequency. You transmit more information with the scale due to the variance in frequency than you do with the monotone sounds.

As for visual information, I could go into a long spiel about Shannon Entropy and the fact that the 1s and 0s it takes to convey the two strings on his web page vary enough for there to be more information in the first string than the second. Indeed, the second is easier to compress than the first due to the repetition. But quite frankly I've bored myself already.

The first string of letters requires that the frequency of the sound as well as the syllable is specified (it's not directly specified here but people know the musical scale and so infer the changing frequencies; to fully specify those sounds the frequencies must also be stated); the second string does not.

Many things are making me happy today:

1) Did a spot of gardening; which is something I never thought I'd do; but if I do say so myself, I did a pretty good job! The garden looks fantastic.
2) I put some more memory in the computer which I thought would be a mission as I have vista. But funnily enough I don't even need to configure anything or tell the computer that it's there like I had to with XP. It just accepted it. Computer is working much better now.
3) England did a good job in the rugger. We actually won through skill rather than the other team giving us penalties.
4) The woman had just made me butterscotch angel delight! Yay!

charlalottie wrote:Sadly no. Then again that may not be a bad thing since the textbook goes on a lot about peacocks and sparrows, which is odd seeing it's supposed to be about humans.

The birds and the bees Lottie, the birds and the bees.

You're so cute. I would, yes, Zoot. I would dearly love it if I could hear more about your bum burn - oh, and those heated floors, too.
