Topher wrote:Have you tried JobSite or Monster, those type of sites?

Also, occasionally (very occasionally) there is the odd decent job in The Citizen, may be worth a gander.

Been all over them like an awkwardly placed rash, little biting.

I'll try the Citizen tho :)

Copydex smells of fish though.

Not when it's dried it won't.

Joel would love to come round and look at your lovely paper chains hanging up all pretty. Go on, do it for Joel......!

Haha, nice try. I mainly see Joel at my sister's or my mum's though - having said that, when he's at an age where he understands Christmas and decorations and has sufficient motor skills and knowledge of what he's doing to at least attempt to make paper chains, I will happily and willingly supervise and help him make them and put them up.

Hey, it makes me happy.

I'm far too lazy (not to mention don't have the time) to make paper chains anyway.

Took Muffin to her firsr Agility competition today. She's great on her home ground but like Portsmouth she failed to get the results away from home. She looked totally petrified of the equipment and refused to do anything other than the jumps. As such she was disqualified from both classes.

On top of that the gearbox in the car suffered major trauma and we had to limp home at 40mph. Nearly didn't make the competition. It would only go in gear when the engine was turned off which made motorways fun! It's in the garage now so it's lucky I have a spare kidney.

What?

Why does she need to go to an agility competition??

Tell me you don't dress your dog up in wee jackets and keep them in your handbag as well?

I pay someone to put their finger up Muffin's bum.

She does agility to help keep her mentally stimulated. The training is great mental excercise for them and it helps forge a very strong bond betwixt dog and handler.

I'm also starting to train Crumpet in the basics. Running alongside me, knowing her left, right, on and back commands. Oh and she loves tunnels now.

There are stringent rules set in place to make sure the dogs are trained to be protected at all times. If a dog breaks those rules they are disqualified. Also, agility has nothing to do with crufts or breeding. My two dogs are mongrels.

If the animals didn't enjoy it they wouldn't do it. That point was proved today. Muffin felt unsafe and hence refused to do anything. You can't force an animal to do something it doesn't want to do. The german tank dogs are an exception to this rule.

Dog shows are incredibly and mind-blowingly boring. My dad used to force us to go and it was tedious in the extreme.

I don't like dog shows as such, the beauty contest type ones. But dog agility training - whether you go in for competing or not - is really good for some dogs. When you think about it, most dogs have deadly dull and tedious lives, bearing in mind that they have instincts which are far from lazy. Doing something active within a pack context is something a lot of them enjoy. It also helps with basic training and behaviour. I got into it with my little doggie because I couldn't find any dog training system or method which wasn't based on food rewards, and as my dog was scared of food to the point of being anorexic, we had problems. Doing the agility training helped him to learn how to focus in a way he really enjoyed, and we were able to develop a way of training him without having to rely on food treats.

It is a lot of fun, sometimes very frustrtrating and I'm not too bothered by the show on Saturday. It was her first one and I'm sure there is a reason we can work on. However it was a very dull day. 4 hrs in the car with two runs of 40 seconds with 3 hours of waiting around in between.

Well he didn't say that, he said 'bus strike', which tends to indicate that the bus drivers won't be working.
