Today's Tedious Link:

Aztec Camera and Mick Jones, Good Morning Britain

Today's Transcript:

The end of the road is where you'd be if you accidentally turned into a cul-de-sac. 'Cul-de-sac' is a French phrase, a bit like 'rendezvous' and 'fromage'. Fromage means cheese, which goes nicely with biscuits. Biscuits are normally sold in a packet or tin. Tin is found in the ground and traditionally mined in Cornwall. Cornwall is also famous for its pasties. Penzance in Cornwall is where you used to get lots of pirates in the olden days. Other famous groups of olden days people include the Incas and the Aztecs, which links to Aztec Camera and 'Good Morning Britain'.

Flaws:

Incas still exist today - they aren't just from the olden days.

The Kinks, You Really Got Me

Today's Transcript:

Britain is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, all of which we visited last week on our Rallyoke tour for Comic Relief. Comic Relief is hosted by Lenny Henry, who was born in Dudley. Dudley is famous for its zoo, which is a good place to look at animals. The Animals were a band who had a big hit with 'House Of The Rising Sun'. Sun Ji Hi plays football for Manchester City and China. China is a major producer of rice, which is grown in paddy fields. Fields are a good thing to have if you're a farmer, as you can use them for grazing cattle. 'Cattle' rhymes with 'battle', which is where Tom from Keane is from. Tom from Keane was recently in the Priory with Justin Hawkins, who lost out in his Eurovision quest to Scooch on the show hosted by Terry Wogan. Terry Wogan is a similar age to Ray Davies of The Kinks, which links to The Kinks and 'You Really Got Me'.

Flaws:

Northern Ireland isn't part of Britain, it's part of the United Kingdom. Additionally, Ray Davies is six years younger than Terry Wogan - is that a similar age?...

Nirvana, Lithium

Today's Transcript:

Kinks are what you might find in hair. Hair is what grows on humans, and men tend to have more bodily hair than women, although this is not always true. 'True' was a hit for Spandau Ballet, who were fronted by Tony Hadley. Tony Hadley shares the same first name as Tony Ferrino, who was a creation of Steve Coogan, who also gave us Paul Calf. Calf is the term for a baby cow and also a baby whale. Whales are still hunted by the Japanese. Japanese people like bullet trains, which transport people very quickly across the country. Country is the opposite of city in the world of living. 'Living' rhymes with 'giving', which is what you do at Christmas. Christmas is a time for eating mince pies and Arctic roll. If you add a 'G' onto the front of 'roll' you get 'Groll', as in Dave Grohl who used to be in Nirvana, which links to Nirvana and 'Lithium'.

Flaws:

Texters argued that Arctic roll isn't festive fare, and Dave had it mixed up with Yule log. Additionally, adding a 'G' to 'roll' doesn't really give you 'Grohl'.

Vanilla Ice, Ice Ice Baby

Today's Transcript:

Lithium is an element on the periodic table, along with helium. Helium is a good gas to put in balloons to make them float. Floats are what you might see at a parade. The word 'parade' shares many of the same letters as the word 'charade', which is like a type of mime. Mime is popular with the French, where men pull funny faces and pretend to be behind glass. Glass is what people traditionally have in their windows. Windows are what you find on your computer, and where invented by Bill Gates. Bill Gates shares the same first name as Will Smith, who had a hit with 'Miami'. Miami is the city that gave us Robert Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, which links to Vanilla Ice and 'Ice Ice Baby'.

Flaws:

Chris questioned Dave's assertion that Bill Gates and Will Smith share the same first name, and in fact he was right as Will Smith's name is Willard, not William.

5ive, Keep On Movin'

Today's Transcript:

Vanilla Ice used to go out with Madonna, and was apparently once hung out a window by his feet. Your feet are connected to the rest of your body by your legs. 'Legs' was a big hit for ZZ Top. Top is the opposite of bottom, while 'Bottom' was a comedy series starring Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson, who were also in 'The Young Ones'. 'The Young Ones' was also a record by Cliff Richard. Cliff Richard is a big fan of tennis, which is a game involving a ball and a net. Annette Bening is an actress who was married to Warren Beatty, who starred in 'Dick Tracy'. Tracy Chapman had a hit with 'Fast car'. if you had a fast car, you'd have to make sure you didn't break the speed limit and get arrested by the police. The Police were the band fronted by Sting, who does tantric sex and can last for like a week. If you were to represent a week in terms of the amount of days that most people work you'd probably say five, which links to 5ive and 'Keep On Movin''.

Flaws:

Seamless link (although I'm not sure that Sting can literally last a week).

Sheryl Crow, All I Wanna Do

Today's Transcript:

5ive's Richie Neville used to go out with Billie Piper, whose 'Honey To The B' recently returned to the charts. The charts on Radio 1 are announced every week by JK and Joel, who this week revealed that the top spot has been reclaimed by The Proclaimers. The Proclaimers are both big supporters of Hibbs, who play at Easter Road. Easter signals the end of Lent, which is when a lot of people give up chocolate. Chocolate is made from cocoa beans, which grow in places like South America. South America is where Paddington Bear is originally from. Paddington Bear shares one name in common with a large London railway station, which serves the West of England. England this week play Andorra, after their disappointing draw against Israel. Israel is a nice place to go scuba diving, where you might see lots of exotic fish. Fish is good for you, and makes up part of a healthy diet for those who are good at cycling. Cycling greats don't come much better than Lance Armstrong, who is married to Sheryl Crowe, which links to Sheryl Crowe and 'All I Wanna Do'.

Flaws:

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong aren't married; they were engaged, but called it off. Additionally, The Proclaimers couldn't reclaim the top spot as they've never been no1 before. This is not to mention Dave's dubious link between fish-eating and cycling.

Jet, Are You Gonna Be My Girl

Today's Transcript:

Sheryl Crow was never married to Lance Armstrong and they've officially split. Banana split is a dessert that's often served with whipped cream. Cream was a band formed by Eric Clapton, who was also in Derek and the Dominoes. Dominoes are a good game to play in the pub, as are billiards and darts. 'Darts' rhymes with 'farts', which are what you shouldn't do in polite company. Company is what you might be looking for if you were a hermit. Hermit is also a type of crab, and crabs are what you might find on the beach. The beach is where you wouldn't want to end up stuck if you were a whale, as you'd have to be rolled back into the water to avoid death. Death is what would also happen to you if you were a bird sucked into the engine of a jet, which links to Jet and 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl'.

Flaws:

Hermits are defined as solitary by choice, so it seems unlikely that they'd be looking for company, but otherwise seamless.

Elton John, Tiny Dancer

Today's Transcript:

Jet was the name of one of the girls in the ITV series 'Gladiators', although her real name was Diane, which is almost the same name as the late Princess of Wales who died in Paris. Paris is the capital of France, which is where Jean-Michel Jarre is from. Jean-Michel Jarre is good at playing keyboards, a bit like Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran. Duran Duran got their name from the film 'Barbarella', which starred Marcel Marceau. Marcel Marceau was good at mime, which involves not speaking. Not speaking is also what people do in a library. Libraries are full of books, which were hugely popular before the invention of tv and radio. 'Radio Gaga' was a hit for Queen, whose lead singer Freddie Mercury was a big mate of Elton John, which links to Elton John and 'Tiny Dancer'.

Flaws:

Books are still hugely popular...but technically mistake-free.

Tedious Facts:

This song has never been released as a single in the UK. It also only reached no41 in the US pop chart.

808 State, Pacific

Today's Transcript:

Elton John this week celebrated his birthday by staging a concert at Madison Square Gardens, which is where the New York Knicks play basketball. All the good basketball players are eight foot tall, which gives them an unfair advantage. Advantage is a word used in tennis, whose origins lie in ancient Greece, which is also where the basics of civilisation were developed. The word develop is associated with photographs, which is done in a dark room. Dark is the opposite of light, which is what you'd be pleased to see at the end of a tunnel if you'd been trapped underground. 'Going Underground' was a hit for The Jam, who were fronted by Paul Weller, who's mates with Ocean Colour Scene, who sang 'The Riverboat Song'. 'Riverboat song' sounds like Rigobert Song, the footballer who played briefly for West Ham and Cameroon. Cameroon's coastline lies on the Atlantic ocean, which is one of the biggest oceans in the world, like the Pacific, which links to 808 State and 'Pacific'.

Flaws:

Basketball players aren't actually eight feet tall, but once again a technicality.

Soft Cell, Tainted Love

Today's Transcript:

808 State are from Bury, as is Ralf Little, who starred in 'The Royle Family', which was written by Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash. Cash is what you get out of the hole in the wall. 'The Wall' is an album by Pink Floyd, who performed at Live 8 in 2005 in Hyde Park. Park is what you do with your car if you're going shopping in town. 'Town' rhymes with 'gown', as in dressing gown, which is what you might wear when you get out of the bath. Bath is a city which is about 13 miles from Bristol. Bristol City were beaten yesterday by Doncaster Rovers. Doncaster is where we recently saw the Kaiser Chiefs perform at The Dome. 'Dome' rhymes with 'gnome', which is something you might see in your garden, along with foxes and squirrels. Squirrels are big fans of nuts, which come in many varieties, such as peanuts, cashews and almonds. Marc Almond was the lead singer of Soft Cell, which links to Soft Cell and 'Tainted Love'.

Dandy Warhols, Bohemian Like You

Today's Transcript:

Marc Almond is now thankfully recovered after a nasty accident on a motorcycle. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' was a hit
for the Manic Street Preachers. If you remove all the 'R's from the word 'preachers' you're left with 'peaches', as in Peaches Geldof, who's Sir Bob's daughter. 'Daughter' was a hit for Pearl Jam. Jam can be made from all sorts of fruits, such as blueberries or damsons. The word 'damson' is derived from the Latin 'prunum damascusun', meaning 'plum of Damascus', which is the capital of Syria. The word 'Syria' has five letters, as do 'grass', 'donut' and 'dandy', which links to the Dandy Warhols and 'Bohemian Like You'.

Flaws:

Some people objected to Dave's statement that 'donut' is a five-letter word, citing the English spelling of 'doughnut', but otherwise seamless.

Salt-N-Pepa featuring Psychotropic, Let's Talk About Sex

Today's Transcript:

'Bohemian Like You' is the theme for 5 Live's show '606'. If you add the numbers 0 and 1 to the front of 606 you get 01606, which is the dialling code for Northwich. Northwich is in Cheshire, which contains the home of Gary Barlow. Gary Barlow shares the same surname as Tracy Barlow, who this week got sentenced to 15 years for the murder of Charlie Stubbs. Charlie Stubbs shares the same surname as Ray Stubbs, who was recently on 'Celebrity Fame Academy' with Colin Murray. Colin Murray is a big fan of Ash. Ash is what you have to clear out of the tray after a barbecue. A barbecue is a nice way to spend a summer night. 'Summer Nights' is a track from the soundtrack to 'Grease', starring John Travolta. John Travolta probably spends a lot of time in posh restaurants. If you were in a restaurant you'd expect to see salt and pepper, which links to Salt-N-Pepa and 'Let's Talk About Sex'.

Flaws:

I don't think Dave has any evidence that John Travolta spends a lot of time in posh restaurants, but otherwise problem-free.

Electric Six, Danger High Voltage

Today's Transcript:

Salt and pepper are known in the food world as condiments, which shouldn't be mistaken for compliments. 'Compliments On Your Kiss' was a hit for Red Dragon with Brian and Tony Gould. Gold is a popular material for making rings. Rubber rings are normally available at swimming pools and on boats. 'Boats' rhymes with 'moats', which are what you find around castles. 'Castles In The Sky' was a hit for Ian Van Dahl, who shares one name in common with Roald Dahl, who wrote 'James And the Giant Peach'. A peach is a fruit that has a large stone. The word 'stone' combines with the words 'temple' and 'pilots' to make a band. Pilots have to be careful to avoid flying into hazards like pylons. Pylons should be avoided and not touched as they are dangerous and high voltage, which links to Electric Six and 'Danger High Voltage'.

Flaws:

Some people argued that salt and pepper are not condiments, but wiki defines a condiment as including seasonings, so all fine today.

Foo Fighters, Monkey Wrench

Today's Transcript:

If you were a German person trying to alert someone to danger, you'd probably include the word 'achtung'. 'Achtung Baby' was an album by U2 which featured the song 'Mysterious Ways'. The word 'ways' rhymes with 'Krays', as in East End gangsters the Krays, who were played in the film of the same name by Gary and Martin Kemp. Martin Kemp is now a big fan of sofas, which are good to sit on while you're watching telly. Telly Savalas was the actor who played Kojak. Kojak had no hair, a bit like Willie Thorne. Willie Thorne is from Leicester, like Gary Lineker. 'Lineker' rhymes with 'spinnaker', which is a type of sail found on a boat. On a boat is also where you'd find a hull. Hull is on the East Coast and begins with H, and in that respect shares something in common with Hartlepool, which is somewhere you'd associate with monkeys. If you were to think of a tool named after a monkey you'd say a monkey wrench, which links to Foo Fighters and 'Monkey Wrench'.

Today's Transcript:

If you remove the 'R' from 'wrench' you're left with 'wench', which is an olden days term for a woman who probably worked behind a bar or milked cows or something. Cows come in many colours, although the most common are black and white. Black and white are also the colours favoured by those supporting Newcastle United. Newcastle United play at St James' Park, which is also the name of Exeter City's ground. Exeter is where Chris Martin is from. Chris Martin likes to write stuff on his hands. Hands are the unit of measurement for calculating the height of a horse. Horses have hooves, which rhymes with 'roofs', which is what you get on top of a building. Buildings are built these days using concrete, which links to Jurassic 5 and 'Concrete Schoolyard'.

The number 12 is also called a dozen, except in the world of baking, where a baker's dozen consists of 13. 13 is considered unlucky by some. 'Some Might Say' was a no1 in 1995 for Oasis. Oasis drummer Zac Starkey is the son of Ringo Starr, who was the narrator for 'Thomas the Tank Engine'. Thomas the Tank Engine shares the same first name as Thomas Brolin, who used to play for Leeds United. Leeds United this weekend play Ipswich Town, who are known as the tractor boys. Today's Transcript:

The frontman of Editors is called Tom, and shares the same first name as Tom Selleck, who played Magnum. A magnum is a type of gun and also a choc-ice. Ice is a hazard when driving, and can cause you to skid. Skid is a word associated with marks, while marks are what a teacher might give to a student for their homework. Homework is something you probably do in your bedroom. The bedroom is where people traditionally sleep, and before you go to sleep you would draw the curtains. Curtains come in pairs, and in that respect share something in common with shoes. Shoes are worn on the feet. Feet is an imperial unit of measurement used for length and height. 'Height' rhymes with 'knight', who would wear a suit of armour in the olden days. In the olden days there were lots of saints around such as St Christopher, St Peter and St Dominic, who were all saints, which links to All Saints and 'I Know Where It's At'.

Today's Transcript:

All Saints are named after a street in London that isn't that far away from Notting Hill. Notting Hill gave its name to the movie starring Julia Roberts, who also starred in 'Pretty Woman'. 'Pretty Woman' featured the song by Roy Orbison. Roy Orbison shares the same first name as Roy Walker, who is the host of Car Park Catchphrase. Roy Walker is big mates with Mr Fish. Fish is something you might serve with chips. 'CHiPS' was an American series starring Erik Estrada. Erik Estrada shares the same first name as Eric Bristow, who's a big name in the world of darts. 'Darts' rhymes with 'farts', which is what you get if you eat too many baked beans. Baked beans are sold in tins, and tins of stuff are good to have if you're camping somewhere like the middle of America. The middle of America is the heartland of country music, where one of the biggest stars is the late Tammy Wynette. Today's Transcript:

INXS are from Australia, as is Paul Hogan, who was in 'Crocodile Dundee'. Dundee is where Radio 1's Big weekend was last year, and yesterday we announced the line-up for this year, which takes place in Preston. Preston is the home city of Mark Lawrenson from 'Match Of The Day'. 'Day' rhymes with 'May', which is the month we're now in, and to celebrate the first day of the month it's customary to say 'white rabbits'. Rabbits like to eat carrots, which grow in the ground, like potatoes. Potatoes come in many different varieties, such as Maris Piper and King Edward. Edward the Confessor was a famous character from the world of history. History is a subject that you study at school, along with maths and geography. Charlotte Church, Crazy Chick

Today's Transcript:

'Some Might Say' was a no1 for Oasis in 1995. 1995 was four years before 1999, which was a hit for Prince. Prince Charles is married to Camilla Parker Bowles. If you remove the 'E' from 'Bowles' you're left with 'bowls', as in lawn bowls, which is played on a rink. If you add a 'D' to the front of 'rink' you get 'drink', which is what you should do with water to stop yourself getting dehydrated in the summer. Summer Bay is the setting for 'Home & Away'. Home and away are the two variables in football fixtures. Football fixtures normally come out about the end of June, so you can plan the year ahead. Your head is connected to the rest of your body via your neck. A neck is also something you'd find on a bottle of wine, which you won't see Charlotte Church with at the moment as she's pregnant, which links to Charlotte Church and 'Crazy Chick'.

Flaws:

Strokes are what you'd probably enjoy if you were a cat. cats like to gain entry into your kitchen by means of a flap. Flaps are also found on aeroplanes, and are located on the wings. Wings was the band that included Paul McCartney and his late wife Linda, who made vegetarian food. Vegetarian food is plentiful in the world of Indian cookery.
