Today's Tedious Link:

Ash and Girl From Mars

Today's Transcript:

The Beatles Long And Winding Road - The Beatles’ “Long And Winding Road” was covered by Will Young a couple of years ago - Will Young shares the same surname as Paul Young, who’s from Luton - Luton won 1-0 this weekend at Hull - If you swap the first letter of “Hull” with it’s alphabetic next door neighbour G, you get “gull”, which is a type of bird - “Bird” or “Doing bird” is a slang expression for doing a prison sentence - A sentence of a different type is something that would contain punctuation, such as commas, apostrophe’s and full stops - Stops are what you’d find along a bus route - Root, albeit spelt differently, is something that trees and teeth share in common - “Common People” was a hit for Pulp - Pulp are fronted by Jarvis C0cker - Jarvis C0cker shares the same surname as fellow Sheffield singer Joe *, who duetted with Jennifer Warnes on “Up Where We Belong”, which was taken from the soundtrack to the film “An Officer And A Gentleman” - “Gentleman” is what you’d see written on the toilet door if you were a boy, while “ladies” is what you’d see if you’re a girl - and “Girl From Mars” was a hit in 1995 for Ash - Which links us to a bit of classic Ash action... Ash and Girl From Mars.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Dave said it was all positive on the text, although I have a very pernickity query:
*Pulp aren’t fronted by Jarvis * anymore really are they? They have sort of split up so I would have used the past tense there.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 1995
- Criminally only got to number 11 in the charts, spending 5 weeks on the countdown...

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Scary to think Tim and Mark from Ash were only 18 when this track was released a decade ago. This was their debut Top 40 hit, although their first actual single release was “Jack” in February 1994. For anyone suffering Ash withdrawal symptons, then check out Charlotte Hatherley’s solo stuff at the minute - saw her live at Leeds Festival, very good.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - On the debut Ash album “1977” (the year Tim and Mark were born), which went straight in at number one when released on the British public back in May 1996.

Bob Marley & The Wailers and No Woman No Cry

Today's Transcript:

Ash Girl From Mars - Mars is a planet in the galaxy, a bit like Jupiter, Saturn and Venus - “Venus” was originally a 1986 hit for Bananarama, and was then covered four years later by Don Pablo's Animals - Animals are what Dom likes to visit at the zoo - “Zoo” rhymes with “moo”, which is the noise you’d associate with a cow - Cows make pat - “Pat” is the first name that links EastEnders’ battleaxe Butcher, with Aussie tennis star Cash - Pat Cash also plays the guitar, which is a popular instrument in Spain - Spain is where the Beckhams’ now live - Victoria Beckham used to be in the Spice Girls, along with the two Mel’s, Emma and Geri - “Gerry” was the war time nickname for the Germans - Germans are big fans of beer and sausage - Sausage is a good thing to make a sandwich out of, by simply adding bread - If you swap the first letter of “bread” for a D you get “dread”, as in dreadlocks - and dreadlocks are something you’d associate with the late Bob Marley - Which links us to a bit of classic reggae action, Bob Marley & The Wailers and No Woman No Cry.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Not in the actual link itself, but there was a huge balls up with the track there to play:
*For some unknown reason, the mix in the computer sounded more like a spoof Phoenix Nights version, rather than the live performance most well known... to Dave’s obvious dismay, Rob the trucker (and hundreds more) text in saying “I’m in fits of laughter”. Chris said the moral of the story was that if you’re ever on the radio, play the live version of No Woman No Cry, not the other version (which might possibly be the original.. they didn’t know).

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1975
- Got to number 8 and spent 18 weeks inside the Top 40.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - How does Bob Marley like his sandwiches? ...

With Jammin! ...

I’ll get my coat.

- ALBUM DETAILS: - Get the LIVE version on the “Legend” compilation album - which is the biggest-selling reggae record of all time in the US and UK, with combined sales of more than 12 million.

Kylie Minogue and Shocked

Today's Transcript:

Bob Marley & The Wailers No Woman No Cry - The original version of “No Woman No Cry” was taken from the album “Natty Dread”, which was released in 1974 - 1974 was the year that Robbie Williams was born - “Born In The USA” was a big hit for Bruce Springsteen - Bruce Springsteen is a celebrity singer who has an underbite, and in that respect shares something in common with George Michael - George Michael shares one name in common with Michael Douglas, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones - Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have a son called “Dylan”, who I think is named after Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who wrote “Under Milkwood” - “Wood” is the surname that links comedienne Victoria with Rolling Stone Ronnie - Before joining The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood was in The Small Faces along with Rod Stewart - Rod Stewart had a big hit with “Sailing”, which is what Ellen MacArthur has done all around the world - “All Around The World” was a number one for Oasis in 1998, and holds the record for being the longest song to top the charts, with a duration of nine minutes thirty eight seconds - Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher once got in trouble on a Cathay Pacific flight back from Australia - and Australia is where Kylie Minogue is from - Which links us to a bit of classic Kylie Minogue action and Shocked.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Yes... I think:
*Although according to my sources that Bob Marley album was released in October 1975, not 1974. They may well be wrong though.

TRACK INFO: - Released June 1991
- Seven weeks on Mark Goodier’s Top 40 chart (yes he did present it in 91’), peaking at number six...

- MC FACT ATTACK: - This was the thirteenth successive Kylie track to reach the top ten, thus making it the best ever chart start for a female solo artist in this country. Yet to be beaten too I think. Fact.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on various Greatest Hits compilations, or on Kylie’s third (top 9) album “Rhythm Of Love”, released in November 1990.

Beck and Loser

Today's Transcript:

Kylie Minogue Shocked - Shocked is what you’d be if you were stupid enough to stick your fingers in a leccy socket - “Socket” rhymes with “locket”, which is something a girl might wear around her neck - Neck is also the part of the body around which you’d wear a scarf or a tie - “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport” was a 1960 hit for Rolf Harris - Rolf Harris is a great artist, a bit like Leonardo da Vinci - Leonardo da Vinci shares the same christian name as Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in “Titanic” and also in the film “The Beach” - The soundtrack to The Beach featured the beautiful Pure Shores by All Saints - All Saints’ Nat and Nic Appleton both have other halves called “Liam” - “Liam” is also the first name of actor Liam Neeson, who starred in “Love Actually” alongside Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon - Martine McCutcheon used to play Tiffany in EastEnders - EastEnders is set in the fictional East London postcode of E20 - 20 is a multiple of the numbers 2, 5, 10 and 4 - and 4 is the exact number of letters that make up the name “Beck” - Which links us to classic Beck and the beautiful Loser.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Try to contain your shock, but there was a mathematical problem:
*20 isn’t a multiple of 2, 5, 10 and 4 - they are multiples of 20. 20 is divisible by those numbers, but not A multiple of them. So basically Dave got it right in his head but messed up the terminology.

TRACK INFO: - Released March 1994
- Got to number fifteen and spent six weeks on the chart..

- MC FACT ATTACK: - The chorus of "Soy un perdedor" is Spanish for "I'm a loser”.. which I would be for knowing that, had I not nicked it from another site.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Track 1 on his April 94 number 41 debut “Beck: Mellow Gold”. Available in all good music retailers I’m sure. Just try your local HMV or Music Zone.

Today's Transcript:

Beck Loser - “Beck” is also the surname of former Middlesbrough striker Mikkel Beck, who’s Danish - “Danish” is a word you’d associate with pastries - Pastries are made by a baker - Baker first name Cheryl, launched her career with Bucks Fizz, and used to present Record Breakers with Kriss Akabusi and the late Roy Castle - The plural of “castle” is “castles”, as in “Castles In The Sky”, which was a top 3 hit in 2001 for Ian Van Dahl - If you remove the “Van” part of Van Dahl, you’re left simply with “Dahl”, which is the surname of actress Sophie Dahl, who’s done films and adverts and stuff, and was once a guest on “An Audience With Elton John” - Elton John’s real name is Reginald Dwight - Dwight Yorke is from Tobago and has a son, Harvey, with model Katie Price - Katie Price is now married to Peter Andre - Peter Andre shares one name in common with Outkast singer bloke Andre Benjamin, who stars in the new heavily-panned Guy Ritchie film “Revolver” - A revolver is a type of gun that might be used by a gang of baddies in a hostage situation - and if you were being held hostage somewhere, you’d be hoping that the SAS would arrive, or that the police negotiators would persuade the baddies to “set you free” - Which links us cleverly to N-Trance and Set You Free.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Yes. Cue Treasure Hunt...

TRACK INFO: - Released May 1994/January 1995/September 2001
- Got its highest chart position at number 2 in 1994.. has spent a collective total of thirty weeks on the chart though.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - The vocalist on Set You Free is actually Kelly Llorenna. You know her? She had hits with that thingy cover.. er.. forget it.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Somewhat surprisingly, there is a “Best Of N-Trance” compilation in existence.. which is available to purchase should you for some inexcusable reason decide to do so. If you do, don’t visit this page again. Ever. You’re not welcome.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Dave said he believed so, but Mr Tedious Links man here has a little quibble:
*”Stayin' Alive” wasn’t a movie starring John Travolta - but was on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, which Dave might have been getting confused by. If Mr Travolta has done a film called Stayin' Alive and I just cant spot it on imdb then I do apologise...

- Only got to 13 in the charts, spending 9 weeks inside the Top 40.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - “No no no no no” as Greyhead used to say:
*Magnus Hedman has never ever played for Blackburn Rovers, although he has played for Coventry City and Celtic. Dave blamed the fact he wrote it very early this morning for his error..

TRACK INFO: - Released March 1986

LL Cool J and Phenomenon

Today's Transcript:

Oasis Acquiesce - "Acquiesce" is a good example of a word that I didn't know the meaning of until yesterday, but according to the dictionary it means "to consent or comply passively without protest" - Protest is something that is often political - the word "political" is derived from the word "politics", which is what Tony Blair and William Hague do - William Hague shares the same christian name as William Orbit, who produced the "Ray Of Light" album for Madonna - Madonna's new single was first played yesterday by Spoony, and features a sample from Abba - The word "Abba" is a palindrome, a bit like the word "racecar" - A racecar is what Ralf and Michael Schumacher drive - Ralf and Michael Schumacher are from Germany - Germany is a nice country full of nice people and somewhere we hope to visit next summer - Summer, first name Donna, was born in America in the year 1948 - and if you scroll forward 20 years to 1968, you get to the birth year of another famous American recording artist, his name being LL Cool J - Which links us to LL Cool J and Phenomenon.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Dave said this track is one of his "urban licks", although of course where the link goes.. nobody knows:
*According to some texters, "race car" is not really a palindrome as it is technically two words. I ain't sure.

TRACK INFO: - Released November 1997
- Spent five weeks on the chart, peaking inside the top ten at number nine.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Ladies Love Cool James (aka LL Cool J) became the first solo rap artist to score a UK Top 10 hit when his 1987 tune "I Need Love" went top eight in September of that year. Fact.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From October 1997's album of the same title, "Phenomenon". Spent only four weeks on the album countdown and peaked at just number 37. Says a lot really. Rrrrrrrrrrubbish choice by Dave today.

The Manic Street Preachers - Which links us to (MC - the best band in the world) Manic Street Preachers and La Tristesse Durera (Scream To A Sigh).

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - I'm not happy.. Moyles took the piss out of this tune, well kind of. Its title anyway. Great choice by Dave though. I ain't even bothering with flaws today because it was just so good to hear some decent music on Radio 1 for a change.*applauds*
TRACK INFO: - Released July 1993
- Reached number twenty-two and spent a total of five weeks on the singles chart.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Literally translated in French "La Tristesse Durera" means "the sadness endures", as said by Vincent Van Gogh before he died in 1890. The track itself was written not about Van Gogh, but about the way things in life won't get better when you get older. Described as "the last great baggy single" by music journalists, it is also the only recording in Manics history to have Richey playing on it. Fact.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From the Manics' second album "Gold Against The Soul", which was a top 8 hit back in July 93. Not their best work by some distance, but worth the purchase alone for La Tristesse, Roses In The Hospital, From Despair To Where and Sleepflower.

Black Legend and You See The Trouble With Me

Today's Transcript:

Black Legend You See The Trouble With Me - You See The Trouble With Me topped the charts in the year 2000 - 2000 divided by ten is 200, which in metres is a popular distance for hurdling - If you swap the H of “hurdling” for a N, and then drop the L, you get “Nurding”, which is the maiden name of Louise Redknapp - Louise Redknapp is married to Jamie Redknapp, whose Dad is Harry Redknapp, the boss of Southampton - Southampton is the home city of both Craig David and Scott Mills - Scott Mills is back from his holidays and on today from 4 - 4 is the second best thing you can do as a batsman in the game of cricket - Cricket is a sport where traditionally the participants dress in all white, and in that respect share something in common with tennis - If you add up all of the letters in the word “tennis”, the number that you get is the number 6 - Half of 6 is 3 - and 3 is, of course, as we all know, the magic number - Which links us cleverly to De La Soul and 3 Is The Magic Number.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Nope:
*200 in metres is not a popular distance for hurdling. In fact it’s so unpopular that no one does it.. anymore at least. They did in the 1900 Olympic Games, which Dave said he, as a traditionalist, was naturally referring to.

TRACK INFO: - Released December 1989
- Reached number seven and spent 8 weeks on the chart.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Think this tune, think this. Fact.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From “3 Feet High And Rising”, the March 1989 album that is consistently accredited as one of the most influential rap LP’s of all time. Produced by Prince Paul.

Bon Jovi and Livin' On A Prayer

Today's Transcript:

De La Soul 3 Is The Magic Number - 3 Is The Magic Number was taken from the classic album “3 Feet High And Rising” - “Rising damp” can be a problem in basement flats, and was also the title of a 1970’s comedy starring Leonard Rossiter - Leonard Rossiter shares the same christian name as Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in Star Trek - Star Trek is set almost entirely in space - “Space” is also the name of a club in Ibiza - Ibiza is somewhere that we’ve DJ’d, and so good were we, that we were asked to play in a proper nightclub by DJ Dave Pearce - Dave Pearce presents Dance Anthems - Anthems of a different type are often played at the Olympics - The Olympics are going to be held in London in 2012, after we successfully beat off the French - The French are one of the few nations in the world to eat horse, unlike the Italians who prefer to eat pasta - The Italians are a big immigrant population in America, which is obvious from names like “Al Pacino”, “Danny DeVito” and of course “Jon Bon Jovi” - and when you think of Jon Bon Jovi and the band which bares his name, you think of Bon Jovi - Which links us to Bon Jovi and Livin' On A Prayer.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Not quite again for a second day running:
*The Italians, as well as the French, apparently also like to eat horse (according to the texts). It’s on the menu in places like Milan and Rome, which Dave quite rightly stated, are in Italy. I know, amazing.

TRACK INFO: - Released October 1986
- Reached number four and spent 15 weeks inside the Top 40.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Based entirely on weeks on the chart, Bon Jovi are the 47th most successful act of all time in this country. Fact. Unfortunately.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Bon Jovi fans you can get it on “Crossroad - The Best Of Bon Jovi”, a number one UK album from back in the day. October 1994 to be exact.

East 17 and Deep

Today's Transcript:

Bon Jovi Livin' On A Prayer - Livin' On A Prayer was taken from the classic album entitled “Slippery When Wet” - Wet is the opposite of dry in the world of weather, while dry is the opposite of sweet in the world of wine - Wine is made from grapes - Grapes are a good thing to take with you when you go and visit somebody in hospital - Hospital is where you go when you are sick - “Sick” is a word often associated with parrots, which is quite apt at the moment, with the international threat of bird flu - A flu of a different type is something you’d find on your boiler - My boiler is powered by gas - “Gas” is what the Americans call “petrol” - Petrol fluctuates in price, depending on the international price of oil - Oil is sold by the barrell, as is beer - The first letter of the word “beer” is B, as in Emma B the model, who comes from Hastings - Emma B the model goes out with Brian Harvey, who bizarrely ran over himself recently, with his own car - But before all that, Brian used to be in a band with Tony Mortimer, and two other fellas that used to dance in the back, and they were called East 17 - Which links us, in my opinion, to possibly the greatest record they did, East 17 and Deep.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Yes. Some people said it wasn’t, but according to Dave they were wrong. I’ll go along with that. Saves me writing stuff in this bit.
TRACK INFO: - Released January 1993
- Spent ten weeks on the Official UK Chart, reaching number five.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Last played as a Tedious on August 17th 2004... that’s the best I can come up with folks.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From East 17’s debut February 1993 album “Walthamstow”.. a number one smash that spent 33 weeks on the album chart in 1993.

Radiohead and Creep

Today's Transcript:

East 17 Deep - East 17 once did a record with Gabrielle - Gabrielle is famous for wearing a patch on her eye, a bit like a pirate - “Pirate radio” is a phrase that applies to a radio station that broadcasts without a licence - “Licence” is a word that is often associated with driving - “Driving In My Car” was a 1982 hit for Madness - Madness are led by lead singer Suggs - “Suggs” rhymes with “hugs”, which are what you might give someone that you haven’t seen for a very long time - “Long Time Coming” was a hit last year for The Delays (MC - top band) - Delays are something that you’d expect when travelling by train - The train is probably the best and quickest way to travel from London to York - If you add an E onto the end of York you get “Yorke”, as in Thom Yorke, who’s the lead singer of the band Radiohead - and Radiohead had a 1993 hit with Creep, which was a track taken from their album “The Bends” - Which links us to Radiohead and Creep (and thankfully for Chris - the clean version).

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Noooooooooooooo:
*Creep wasn’t of course taken from The Bends, it was from Pablo Honey. Dave called it a deliberate mistake. I call it a flaw.

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1993
- The first of their as yet 7 top tens actually got to number 7, with 6 weeks on the countdown.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Creep was originally released in September 1992, when it sold only 6000 copies and made number 78 in the UK Charts. It was re issued a year later following on from the success of the album. Also, one of only two good Radiohead songs according to Comedy Dave.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - As you've heard already, from Radiohead’s debut “Pablo Honey”, which only originally got to number 22 in the album chart.. but then proceeded to stay there for 82 flippin weeks. Eee by gum.

Chocolate Puma and I Wanna Be U

Today's Transcript:

Radiohead Creep - Creep is what you’d have to do on your tippy toes if you were trying to sneak into somebody’s bedroom and steal something from their bedside table while they were asleep - Asleep is the opposite of awake - A wake of a different type is what you often have after a funeral - Funeral For A Friend are from Wales and have a new record out called “History” - History is all about stuff that took place in the past - If you add an A onto the end of past you get “pasta”, which is the general term for stuff like tagliatelle and spaghetti and stuff - Spaghetti is not easy to eat and is not an advisable choice of meal if you’re out on a date - A date of a different type is a kind of sticky fruit thing - Fruit is often used as an ingredient in the world of desserts, which can often be made from custard or trifle or chocolate - Chocolate is a very versatile food which can be moulded into all sorts of different shapes, including animals, if necessary - An if you wanted to make, say, a puma entirely out of chocolate, as an impressive speciality dessert, then I suppose you’d describe it simply as a “chocolate puma” - Which links us cleverly to Friday fun in the form of Chocolate Puma and I Wanna Be U.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - No. Very very tenuous though, especially with the moulding animals out of chocolate thing. Dunno if that’s something Dave does in his spare time or what.
TRACK INFO: - Released March 2001
- Got to number six in the charts kids, with 9 weeks on there altogether.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - We don’t say it very often with Tedious Link now 3+ years old, but that was a DEBUT play on Tedious for this track.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Get it on CD1 of the 2001 compilation Now 48 - alongside stuff by Hearsay, S Club 7, Atomic Kitten, Steps, Mel B, Bob The Builder, DJ Luck & MC Neat. That good, trust me.

Primal Scream and Rocks

Today's Transcript:

Chocolate Puma I Wanna Be U - The Chocolate Puma track has been used recently to advertise a well known store that sells furniture - Furniture is a pain to shift around when you move house - House music was invented by Frankie Knuckles - Frankie Knuckles shares the same christian name as Frankie Dettori, who rides horses - Horses were traditionally used to pull carts and stuff, before the invention of cars - Cars are a major source of traffic congestion in the UK, which is why it’s sometimes better to travel by bus - A bus is what we’re on at the moment, in the centre of Leeds, as part of the Radio 1 “DJ’s Go Home” thing, and later we’ll be taking our bus on a journey around Leeds - Leeds is in the county of West Yorkshire, which has produced many great bands over the years, including Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, Utah Saints, Terrovision and Embrace, who will be performing live on stage right here in the city centre in about quarter of an hour or so, infront of all of you - and an embrace is a bit like a hug, which is what you’d give to a friend or loved one if they’d just crawled to safety, having been caught up in an avalanche and buried deep beneath lots of snow, ice and “rocks” - Which links us to Primal Scream and Rocks.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Yes. No text messages to check with it being an OB, but seamless nonetheless.
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1994
- Reached number seven on the chart, spending five weeks on it in total.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - I honestly can’t think of a single fact about this track. It’s late as I’m writing this and I can’t be arsed thinking of one - sorry.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - First single taken from Primal Scream’s 1994 comeback album “Give Out But Don’t Give Up” - released a month after the single in April 1994.

Kula Shaker and Hey Dude

Today's Transcript:

Primal Scream Rocks - Rocks are what you might find at the beach, along with lots of sand, pebbles and shells - Shells are like a mobile home for snails - Snails are a national delicacy in France - France shares a border with Spain, which is the home of Antonio Banderas - Banderas were a short lived early 90’s slaphead girl combo, who scored a top 16 hit in 1991 with “This Is Your Life” - “This Is Your Life” was a long running celebrity based programme, which we were once on, to celebrate the life and works of David Dickinson - David Dickinson is from Stockport, the same part of the world that Will Mellor is from - Will Mellor shares the same first name as Prince William, who was training with Alan Curbishley and the lads the other day at Charlton Athletic - Charlton Athletic is one of Man City defender Danny Mills’s former clubs - Danny Mills shares the same surname as actress Hayley Mills, obviously the daughter of the great Sir John Mills - and Hayley Mills is the mother of Crispian Mills, who’s from Kula Shaker - Which links us confusingly to Kula Shaker and the classic Hey Dude.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Seamless link yes, despite a barrage of texts saying Danny Mills never played for Charlton. He did. Dave wins.
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1996
- Spent seven weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking inside the top 2 at number 2.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - According to my archives, this track hasn’t been used on Tedious Link since Thursday 28th November 2002, although I’m sure that must be wrong. Er.. fact. I win.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From Kula Shaker’s debut album “K” (also released in September 96) - which spent 44 weeks on the UK Album Chart in total, and was their only UK number one album.

C & C Music Factory and Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

Today's Transcript:

Kula Shaker Hey Dude - Kula Shaker supported Oasis on the bill for their legendary 1996 shows at Knebworth, along with the Charlatans, the Manics and Dreadzone - Dreadzone’s biggest hit was entitled “Little Britain” - “Little Britain” is the name of the comedy series that stars David Walliams and Matt Lucas - Matt Lucas shares the same surname as George Lucas, who directed Star Wars - Star Wars starred Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia - Carrie Fisher shares the same first name as Carrie Davis, who reads our sport and is a big fan of Chelsea - Chelsea disappointingly lost last night in their Champions League match against Real Betis, and boss Jose Mourinho is not happy - “Happy Days” was the telly show set in 50’s Milwaukee, which is also the American city where singer Alice Cooper is from - Alice Cooper shares the same surname as Colin Cooper, whose initials are C & C, a bit like Chris Coleman, whose initials are also C & C - and when you think of the initials C & C in the context of early 90’s dance hits by two producers who ran their own music factory, you think of C & C Music Factory - Which links us predictably to C & C Music Factory and Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Yet again, surprisingly yes. Followed by a nice little rap-off between Dominic and Aled.
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1990
- Top tune that reached number 3 in the charts, spending 12 weeks on there in total.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - C & C Music Factory wasn't really a group - it was the product of Robert Clivilles and the late David Cole, two pop-savvy dance producers who hired all the singers and created all the tracks for Gonna Make You Sweat, also their first album as well as single.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From the aforementioned “Gonna Make You Sweat” album, a top 8 hit back in February 1991.

Third Eye Blind and Semi-Charmed Life

Today's Transcript:

C & C Music Factory Gonna Make You Sweat - One half of C & C Music Factory is now sadly no longer with us, and in that respect shares something in common with former double act Charles & Eddie - Charles & Eddie had a 1992 hit with “Would I Lie To You” - “Would I Lie To You” was also a song title used by both the Eurythmics and White Snake - Snakes of different sizes and colours were being wrapped around the head of Justin Timberlake yesterday with Colin and Edith, live from Belfast Zoo - A zoo is where you’d expect to see lots of animals that would normally live in Africa - “Africa” was a 1983 hit for Toto - Toto was a character in “The Wizard Of Oz”, and was the dog of Dorothy - Dorothy Perkins shares the same surname as Sue Perkins, who in turn shares the same first name as Sue Townsend, who wrote the Adrian Mole books - A mole has two eyes, but bad eyesight because it lives underground - and if you had a mole that had an extra eye, it would be a tricloptic mole - and if the third eye on this particular mole didn’t work, right, and wasn’t any good, you might describe it as being a “blind third eye”, or if you prefer to put those words the other way round, a “third eye blind” - Which links us to Third Eye Blind and of course Semi-Charmed Life.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Oh no no no no:
*Huge error by Dave today - spotted immediately by everyone (me included, for once). Justin Hawkins was in Belfast with Colin and Edith yesterday, not Justin Timberlake.. as incorrectly stated by Mr Vitty.

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1997
- Reached number 33 and spent five weeks on the UK Singles Chart.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - Third Eye Blind are one of Tiger Woods’ favourite bands... incidently also the same fact I used last time Dave played this on Tedious. It’s all I have on them I’m afraid.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - From their non charting self entitled album “Third Eye Blind” - complete with a nice, charming album cover for the kids too. Hmm.

Underworld and Born Slippy

Today's Transcript:

Third Eye Blind Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind are from America, as is Chevy Chase, who starred in the movie “National Lampoon's Vacation” alongside former model Christie Brinkley - Christie Brinkley is, or certainly used to be, married to Billy Joel - Billy Joel shares one name in common with Joel, off of JK and Joel, whose surname is “Hogg”, a bit like Boss Hogg off of Dukes Of Hazzard (MC edit - I always thought he was Joel Ross?) - The Dukes Of Hazzard is a timeless classic which looks as good today as it did when it was first aired, and was recently remade into a movie starring Jessica Simpson - Jessica Simpson shares the same initials as Jack Straw, who is the foreign secretary - The post of foreign secretary, as the name suggests, involves dealing with foreign stuff, in other countries like France, Iraq and Cuba to name but three - 3 is the square route of 9, which is the total points acheivable (without going into extra points as a result of a really tight match), in the game of squash - Squash is played on a court - Caught of a different type is what happens to fish - Fish live in the sea, along with lobsters and crustaceans and dolphins - and dolphins are a good example of a creature that is “born slippy”, as a result of its smooth and aerodynamic shape - Which links us predictably to this mornings Friday classic dance tune, Underworld and Born Slippy.

Tedious Facts:

- SEAMLESS?: - Well, kind of:
*Dolphins are not “aerodynamic” in shape of course, as that refers to something that travels through the air. Dolphins of course travel through the water, making them “hydrodynamic”.. a new word to us all I think.

TRACK INFO: - Released May 1995/July 1996/November 2003
- In its three separate releases, has spent a collective total of 26 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. Highest position was number 2 in 1996.

- MC FACT ATTACK: - No facts needed about this tune. Just listen to it.
- ALBUM DETAILS: - Let’s face it, you could get this song on an Underworld album - but frankly, you’d be much better off getting it on the Trainspotting soundtrack.. with Blur, Elastica, New Order, Pulp, Sleeper, Iggy Pop etc.
