I have been thinking about this. Michael Jackson's gifts had a huge and significant impact on millions of people around the world. A certain leel of regret and sadness at his passing is entirely reasonable. If anyone thinks that the impact Jade Goodey had on people in general can be regarded as in any way comparable with that, they need to take a good, hard look at themselves.

If it's used as one word (which DoubleD did) then windowsill is a perfectly acceptable spelling.

What Dim in dictionary corner over there was commenting on is that windows have cills not sills.

Gotta love the english* language.

I really disliked Jade Goody as a person.

She got cancer, which was sad, but other than that - everything she had done in her life since Big Brother annoyed me.

It wasn't her fault that she was thrust into the limelight (yes she did apply, but couldn't have foreseen the attention she would get).

But she personified the idea of ignorance being prized as an asset in society. Throughout her media career she constantly fed off the fact that she was stupid, was advised to whore her image out and then fell into a business strategy. People referred to her as a 'canny business woman', but realistically she would have had very little to do with her own success.

The final straw was when she was diagnosed with Cancer. I've never seen someone act with so little dignity when having a terminal disease. It's fair enough that she wanted to leave her children with lots of money to see them through life - but every part of her experience with cancer was commercialised. She was open and honest about it, but I hated it. I judged her as having little to no self respect or dignity - and I still hold that view. The marriage was disguisting, and she was keeping the money for her estate - not for charity.

She was credited with raising awareness to young girls about cervical cancer - but again, this wasn't her doing. She suffered from cancer, and was high profile - but did very little to contribute to the causes directly.

I've just seen this and it sums up my feelings perfectly : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebri ... inson.html

Ugh sometimes this forum really annoys me. It seems the more educated and successful people become the more they lose their empathy and caring side. Who are you to judge who should die and how they should?

Some things should be intimate, and if you know you're going to die - it's possibly one of the most intimate moments of their life. To commercialise it in such a way (in my opinion) is a horrible thing to do, knowing that your last moments on this earth will be putting on a show.

I never said that she deserved to die, or that it wasn't sad. Just that I didn't like her as a 'celeb personality', and her death didn't really change my opinion of her.

Should it have?

But she put her death in the public sphere, so that people would talk about it and generate revenue.

I think I should be allowed to have my own opinion on the matter, it's not the first time that an emotive subject has been mentioned on this forum - rarely does the response 'you shouldn't have an opinion about that' come up.

People came out and said that she handled her death with strength and dignity, Stephen Fry even likened her to Princess Diana - shouldn't they withdraw their opinion on the matter? Or is it OK because they're blindly positive?

Well said Cat.

Well Said Charlottie.

The fact you guys have been thinking about the relative merits of someone dying, and judging this based on your understanding of that person through you knowledge based on media reporting is frankly idiocy of Vegteteareanism proportions.

Sake.

I have held my tongue on this for a bit now, but d'you know what, * it. Gotta get this off my chest because it's been eating away at me every time a new post is added here.
I've never come across such a vile, obnoxious, shower of shit in all my days.
All these comments are making me sick to the pit of my stomach. How dare you think you can come on this site, contribute to this topic, without even thinking. Not even for a minute...
How yummytummy is feeling today. Despicable bastards the lot of you.

I don't know what this word means, but I like it!

And perhaps we should change the subject to something less emotive before everyone gets really cross with each other...?

They are. I seem to recall at one time HP put milk powder in theirs, but I don't know why they would, and like most of the country I always buy Heinz anyway so I wasn't worried about it. One of the UK's favourite meals, beans on toast - naturally vegan. (Also a good tip for upping your vegan nutrition quota: put Marmite on the toast.)

I do that, but it's a weird combination. Marmite and beans shouldnt really go together, but it works quite well. Beans, wholemeal toast, marmite and a cup of tea with soya milk has got to be good for you :)

Soy is useful, however it is - for the moment anyway - the only thing you can eat that you can guarantee is genetically modified. Although how anyone can drink soy milk is beyond me - I'd rather go without completely!

I don't drink it straight - but I use it in tea and on cereal, just like most people use cows' milk. My flatmate, who is not even veggie, has it all the time too and says he can't tell the difference.

I have read stuff about soy in significant quantities being bad for you, but how much credibility that should be given I dont know. I suppose too much of anything wont do you much good.

I buy tesco soya milk and the sweetend stuff tastes fine, but I stick with the unsweetend stuff as it's cheaper and tastes fine in tea. Tesco soya mince is decent as well.

And finally, you've joined the dark side...

EDIT: And annoying me today, Facebook.

The privacy settings are blooming useless with this timeline feature. Certain members of my family have added me and I have hidden the friend requests but I think its about time I accept them but I don't want them seeing all my past posts which are now so easy to find on timeline but there is no way of restricting all of these and you have to go down every single post ever made and change the privacy settings on each one. Considering I have been using facebook for 3 years now quite regularly this is going to take a ridiculous amount of time.

There is evidence to suggest that it's good for you too, especially if you're female. The studies haven't been extensive enough to be conclusive, but Japanese women, who routinely consume soya every day, have much lower incidences of breast cancer and severe menopausal symptoms than western ones.

I don't like the sweetened soya milk - after all, cows' milk isn't sweet, so if you're replacing that you wouldn't want it to taste sweet. I'm just glad its come down in price since I first became vegan - it was double what it is now!

I am firmly convinced the the single most dangerous and unhealthy thing you can eat is refined sugar. I don't think there are many serious medical conditions which aren't made more likely by a diet high in refined sugar.

I eat FAR too much sugar...

What is annoying me is waking up to see that the new neighbours boyfriend has parked his car on the grass area directly in front of my house again. I dont own that area, but I own my house and it is bloody inconsiderate.
