I've seen a fair few people on twitter and fb complaining about having to do the census. Maybe it's cos my dad is a genealogist so I see how important they are to future generations, or maybe it's just cos I'm sad, but I quite enjoyed doing mine. There was lively debate in my flat about whether we considered ourselves English or British, and whether there was any chance of either of us pulling this evening and so needing to change what we put about who was sleeping here. (Unsurprisingly, that turned out not to be an issue.)

When Manchester City Council announced its massive job cuts a couple months ago, my flatmate applied for voluntary redundancy. Obviously he started looking for other jobs, and even tho he didn't hear anything for ages he went on interviews etc, thinking it was still being processed. Eventually he assumed his application for redundancy had been refused and accepted another job, which he's due to start next week.

Today he found out that in fact when his application was received they couldn't decide which department he belonged to, so both departments just left it for the other to deal with, and it hasn't even been looked at. This is someone's livelihood in the balance, and a substantial payoff, which he could have been relying on to live on. So annoying!

i'm working on a fb page for work...you need 25 fans on facebook to get a vanity url for a page...but you can't send out comms with the url on it, until you are sure you have the url.

argh!

ah, i make them myself by finding a pic,

using instagram on my iphone (brilliant app, can't find any software that does it as quickly) i change the filter on it (i use 1970 filter to make it look old)

from there i get the forum code for them from imageshack by uploading them (avatar 100x75)

then i just edit the url which they redirect to (as they're custom set to direct back to imageshack when you click on them) and put them in my sig.

I'm having loads of trouble sleeping at the moment. I think it started when the clocks changed, but that's 3 days ago, so you'd think my system would have righted itself by now - but no. I'm lying awake half the night and then absolutely dead in the mornings. My allergies are playing up and I'm just eating crap cos I'm so tired. it sucks.
