Granted, I am too cheap and lazy to go to the cinema (or the movies as we call them here), but rarely does the audience clap for films. Come over and I'll show you!

I hate conference calls, but that's not news.

Fair enough, I stand corrected! (US sitcom audiences do whoop and cheer though - surelly you just want them to laugh really?!)

I always wondered why in some sitcoms the whooping was (can't say "is" as I don't really watch the new ones) worse than in others. I liked the comparatively sensible Frasier audience. The Friends audience was annoying, and the Third Rock From The Sun even more so.

I'm shocked, appalled and angry about the massive c**t that is Derrick Bird, the man who killed 12 people in a gun rampage today in Cumbria.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/10219655.stm

I really despise these 'spree' killers with all my heart, they are vile cowards. They always kill themselves after their 'spree' has ended, why can't they kill themselves before the spree? Why do they need to take so many innocent people with them?

/endrant

My sympathies go out to anyone affected by this horrible event, if you are from Cumbria hope you are okay.

I only found out about this half an hour ago, truly shocking & rather annoyingly the twat who did it never gets punished as he has killed himself.

A very bad day for the UK.

It's Hungerford all over again - it's a very sad day when the two top stories in the news are of a spree killer and a serial killer.

Its incomprehensible. Nobody in their right mind would do something like this, so I suppose its fair to assume that he wasn't in his right mind - but I know exactly where English Bob is coming from with the anger and frustration that someone who is clearly planning to end their own life can therefore effectively get away with something like this. I do wonder what pushed him over the edge though - people who knew him are saying that there was no hint of this kind of thing in his character, but I wonder. Apparently he was "known to police" from a previous incident or incidents - they aren't saying what.

Cumbria has had a shit time of it recently.

According to BBC News website his niece died last week, perhaps that pushed him over the edge, not sure in all honesty. I imagine it'll all come out in the news the next few days.

Vaguebooking, that annoys the hell outta me. For those who don't know the term, it's updating your Facebook status in a very vague (and annoying) manner, like "<Name> is so annoyed!" or "<Name> is fed up of this bullshit!". Basically anything that prompts replies of "are you ok?". Piss off.

urgh. i hate this. this, and personal matters being discussed - such as very personal relationships. there's one going on right now, where gf's sister is divorcing husbanfd and she'll have a good moan about him, prompting people she knows to agree. it's like loose women. and i REALLY hate that show.

i'm very strict on my social networking etiquette

Definitely, it's how it should be. No personal issues as statuses. There's one girl who's a friend who updates her status about 7 times a day, and of them 5 tend to be vaguebooking. Would it be harsh to delete her for that?

You can hide her updates from your newsfeed :)

my dissertation will be centralled around social media - and i plan to write an unofficial social networking etiquette guide

Oh aye? How do I do that?

In your timeline, hover over the area that her status appears in - a 'hide' button appears to the right of it - you should then get two buttons where her status appeared; one says 'hide [name]' to hide her status permanently and one is to cancel hiding that status.

Someone on my Facebook fills her statuses with anecdotes about her and her son (I say anecdotes... it tends to be what film they're watching for the n,000th time); that would be annoying enough, but her son is called Haydan. Not Haydn. Hay Dan. Every time I see it written I want to comment and say "learn to spell your OWN * SON'S NAME!" But I don't.

Yep I hate that as well, there's about 6-12 friends of mine who update about 5-6 times a day, most about how much they hate their job or how they know who their true friends really are.

I take the piss out of them now, one of my mates is an engineer, who has to work this weekend so put a comment along the lines of "Boo-hoo, it's Friday, big deal, some of us have to work this weekend", so of course I had to oblige & take the piss out of him

I very rarely go on Facebook these days, everyone wants you to join a group, add a game, etc. it was just better a couple of years back.
