Tuesday - computer guys came in Monday when I was off, obviously saw what websites I'd been on and blocked it. Boss had a word today about 'social networking sites' - rubbish!!

Thanks, and thanks for the PM!

That happened to us with Facebook, You Tube, etc. Some tosser of a regional manager came round the office one day, one of the girls was looking at Facebook during her lunch break & the next day it was gone. The excuse given was that Facebook & You Tube were accidentally implanting viruses. The real reason was that bloke was an arse (and one of those that plays everything by the book and loves the company to bits, well he did a year ago at least). Forums & Emails are fine though.

No probs, hope you enjoyed them :)

I hate over-officious IT departments. I'm fortunate, everything here is unblocked.

It would be mind you, I AM the IT department :D

We take the view that if you can't trust employees with their computers, why the hell would we employ them in the first place?

Self-policing. That's pretty much what we do too. Occasionally the boss decrees that we can do what we want at lunch, but we should be working the rest of the time. We mostly stick to it too.

Had to turn down the copywriting job as they would only offer me a £1.5k increase on my current wage, which didn't seem like enough to turn down further qualifications

Checking the internet was the first thing I did, believe me. I even posted on anythingbutipod.com, and the geeks there were really helpful and showed me the combination of button-pressing that gets me into "test mode". However, it turned out sending it to be fixed was the only way.

I've tried so hard to get around phoning Sony... I've always had sort of a phobia of phoning people (I work in an office, so I'm dealing with it  ), but am left with no other option so I'll phone them up at lunchtime. I'll basically tell them everything I wrote in that above post, albeit more politely.

They'd better listen and give it another go. I'm not sure I'd be able to convince them to replace it either. They even had the audacity to inform me that it was scatched on all sides in the invoice!

Ah I see, fair enough, good to see that these big companies always look after their customers & never rip them off

Well I spoke to a lady on the phone yesterday and she is apparently forwarding my comments via email and they will give it another check.

I'm rather worried. If it works for them again this will be the worst case of Sod's Law I've had in a long time.

We had a set of expensive Sony speakers which someone spilled a drink over and ruined. They were still in warranty so Sony took them back - they collected them - and said that as they were beyond repair they would replace them. unfortunately they were no longer manufactured, so they gave us a pair of the speakers which they now did in that range - which were five times better and would have cost us about twice as much if we'd bought them. I thought that was pretty good service.

Its interesting though - other people are getting shafted by Sony, but my experience was good. My experience of Apple customer services however has been little short of criminal, yet other people have had excellent service. You win some you lose some.

I haven't written them off yet (I've also heard both good and bad reports about Sony)... I'm just annoyed at having been told that my poorly walkman has no fault when it obviously does. And like I said, it's not so much their fault as bad luck that that's happened.

I have no idea what I'll do if they claim it's alright a second time. Keeping my fingers crossed...

That sounds a bit like my family and the NHS.

Is that the technical term? Go to the trouble shooting guide at the back of the manual and look up "screen gone mental". That should help you out.

Grrh. My open letter to Florence and the Machine. Please keep your grubby and contrived quirky mitts off classics like You've Got the Love. By all means re-composition of someone elses work can add value to it but just overlaying your proudly-untrained squawking all over the shop in order to appeal to your Myspace twitterheads makes you nothing more than a opportunistic niche-whore. Please take your flowers and floaty dresses and teleport yourself into a future time when people have long forgotten what real talent is where you can then wallow in global superstardom.

^Agreed. I already couldn't for the life of me understand the hype about that woman (band?) (woman?), but this just makes it so much worse.

florence is an amazing singer. i agree that you've got the love is not a good song, and in general - the majority of her releases aren't her best work, and don't showcase her singing talent, but after seeing her live i was truly speechless at her power and vocal ability.

I can't stand her. And whilst i agree that her vocal power is outstanding, the noise is truly horrendous, flitting from head to nose to chest to nose to head......hopefully she'll * her vocal cords soon, the way she sings its definitely on the cards. If anyone could benefit from some vocal training its her.

It's the constant incessant never-ending continual key changes - in every phrase - every line - every sodding song. As Yuds said ^^ they come from different sources with obviously different intensity which inevitably morph into an almost unintelligable stream of random white noise. Her 'cool' and unorthodox denial of melody is like some ongoing art experiment but nevertheless a completely tiresome novelty.

Although Candi Staton's soul/gospel voice of the original You Got Love (sic) isn't perfect, any of the numerous subsequent re-mixes with her vocals blows our 'gone tomorrow' Flo out of the water. Play any of those to know where the bar is set for this particular song. Silly singy voices don't count as interpretation.

Although I'm no gamer myself I've been browbeaten by the household to get the new CoD and a wireless adapter for the Xbox. It seems that if I put up any more resistance I'm likely to be reported to the authorities for denial of basic care.
