Zoot wrote:I was stung by a wasp for the first time in my life last night, I was amazed! I got stung on the tip of my finger and within 15 minutes my whole hand had gone numb and i had cramp pains shooting up my arm. Within 30 minutes I couldn't bend my finger at all. I took some antihistamines and paracetamol and on instruction from Mrs Zoot put my finger in vinegar (old wives tale?). Even now as I type this my finger is still numb and a bit swollen.
Is this a normal reaction or am i slightly allergic? I really don't know!

I hope it's normal... purely for selfish reasons, it will mean that my wasp phobia is less irrational than people make it out to be.

It sounds fairly normal to me, albeit a fairly bad reaction. Antihistamines = good idea. Vinegar - well, its more of a folk remedy than an old wives tale. The venom in a wasp (or bee) sting is alkali, so vinegar can help ease the pain and swelling, yes. So vinegar = good idea too.

Remembering the reason I chose to go to a uni so far away from my family. I want to go back now!

I have a weird Dave-esque way of remembering which to use. Bees - Buy-car-bonnet of soda cos they are both B's and Vinegar for wasps cos they are both near the other end of the alphabet and V's and W's are similar.

I once got stung on the finger and the same thing happened to me too.

I've cut down on cigs. I have no nails left. Not completely quit yet but slowly getting there.

Good Luck Cat.

Good luck both of you. Cat, you're young enough to be able to lose weight whenever you want to pretty easily, so try not to worry about the cake. You really can't give up smoking and diet at the same time, that's too much for any mortal to take.

Apparently I'm very flirty. Why the * was I so shit at chatting up women when I was single then?! Is this something I've learned recently, or is it just that I'm not longer trying not to be single and therefore am much more relaxed?

Whatever it is, I can't say I'd noticed until it was pointed out to me. I thought I was just a) being nice about folk, and b) having a cheeky laugh.

It's probably a combination of age (I shy away from using the word 'maturity' here) and you being more relaxed because you're in a committed relationship. There's nothing to lose, unless your girlfriend doesn't like your flirty ways. Out of curiosity, who was it that noticed?

To be fair, now that I look back over some of the conversations I've had at work, on here and other social networking type locations... yeah, I am a flirt.

However, I do appear to be better at it online or with people I know well enough. So I'm probably still crap at chatting up new people!

There's only one way to tell. The next new girl that signs up you have to hit on.

Why do I get the feeling Foots is going to go create another account so it'll be him?

Online doesn't count. I've done the internet girlfriend thing, so clearly I can work that scene. Real life would be the proper test.

careful with that excuse. I use it a lot when i don't have the balls to say "sorry, you're a bit dull and weren't that great a shag so I don't really wanna repeat the experience". I'm surprised I haven't been accused of having nits.

Fair enough.

Foots, you were crap last night. Sorry. I tried to be subtle about it, but nicola_red's called me on it.
