Before MR Moyles went on his jollies, he mentioned that he couldn’t wait to see WotW.

Well if he ever reads this and he wants the honest truth "don’t bother pal"

What a pile of pants...

Where was the impending doom facing the human race?

Where was the greatest most powerful army on the planet? two jests and five helicopters? your having a laugh!

Where were the world leaders, radio broadcasts etc?

What happened to all the yanks owning guns?

So many holes it was embarrassing.

It just goes to show that Mr Spielberg has now been surpassed by the brilliant Mr Jackson in the epic (scale) movie making. Just watch the King Kong trailer to see how remakes should be done.

I was very dissapointed when i saw war of the worlds, most expensive movie ever was lacking in every department. The special effects were good but there was no real sense that the world was under attack, they just followed Tom Cruise around.

King Kong looks quality already, shows what can happn if you take the time and effort to set it in the right period it will pay off.

I still think that Independance Day is the best 'World Facing Extinction' film in recent years.

P.S. Enough of an opinion for you Gaspode?

Flame brings up some good points.

Although Cruise escaping from the aliens was entertaining enough - the whole "world is under attack" plot did suck somewhat. One of the poorest aspects was on the boat when we were supposed to care that someone we'd only met 10 seconds ago was about to be left behind

It was the ending really spoilt it though, and most of the people coming out of the film didn't really undersand that a virus had killed them - thinking instead Cruise had killed them with the grenade, which is understandable since he had been the focus of most of the film.

Also was I the only one wanting the Girl to die just so she'd stop screaming?

you don't have to seek my approval but its nice you do.

its a bit harsh to blame spielberg for the story though fish heads.

Maybe, but this was his interpritation of the story - and personally I don't think he did it justice. The orginal film had a much better ending where people were praying for the Aliens to die, which begged the question if it was just coincidence or were there even larger forces at work. At the end of this one it was all a bit "is that it?"

Well said Fish Heads.

Gaspode is so, so wrong.

If Mr Jackson can make a 50ft Monkey, who fancies a blonde piece of fluff look slighlty believable. Then the story of an alien invasion is not the problem.

It’s all down to the fact that Mr Spielberg is good at directing films which are predominantly set in a claustrophobic environment/atmosphere i.e. E.T (in the House), Poltergeist (In the house), Jaws (on a boat), Schindler List (in a camp), etc etc.

However when it comes to story telling “outside of his comfort zone” he simply loses his way.

Lets face it, the story was just to BIG for the little bearded-man.

I agree that the film wasnt all that amazing after all it was hyped up about, but graphically, its probably one of my best movices ive seen in a long long time. I studdy Computer Animation in university, and watching some of the CGI in that movie really was amazing. but, unfortuantely, thats all it was, fancy effects.

For spectacle I agree, however for some reason I preferred Armageddon on other levels.

Spielberg should have altered the ending a little bit to make it more believable, I hated all that sentimental rubbish. There is another version coming out totally based on the original H.G. Wells book which hopefully will be better.

Went to see this film yesterday evening and thought it was pretty amazing! I'm surprised there were kids who were clearly under 12 (its a 12 A, right?) with their parents.

By the sounds of things they found it a little scary. I look forward to the dvd and its extras (which will probably be lots) when it comes out..

12 A just means PG, but they need to be accompanied by an adult to get in.

I saw the wedding crashers on Saturday. It was a pretty good film although you'd have to really stretch your imagination to imagine anyone fancying Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
