As you'll have seen, thanks to the hard work of Console, we now have our own web-based MiniMoyles on the main page of the site. This was developed to allow users who don't use Windows, or who aren't permitted to install software on their machines, to get the latest news and updates from the team.

If you launch the pop-up window and then keep it open, the system will alert you when a new message arrives with a pop-up message and, if you haven't selected the 'mute' option, a short sound.

We have tested MiniMoyles on the following platform and browser configurations. If you can add to this list, please let us know below - this post will then be updated.

'Y' indicates correct operation, 'N' indicates a failure.

Windows:

• Y - Mozilla
• Y - Safari
• N - Internet Explorer

Visitors to the site will notice that the web-based Mini-Moyles has been removed, this is at the request of the BBC.

They viewed the service as "illegally using data from bbc.co.uk", which "[broke] the terms and conditions of the site. - Point three of the terms and conditions (http://www.bbc.co.uk/terms/) states: You may not copy, reproduce, republish, download, post, broadcast, transmit, make available to the public, or otherwise use bbc.co.uk content in any way except for your own personal, non-commercial use. You also agree not to adapt, alter or create a derivative work from any bbc.co.uk content except for your own personal, non-commercial use. Any other use of bbc.co.uk content requires the prior written permission of the BBC."

Although I personally feel their interpretation of the above is rather strict with regard to the non-commercial use of a publicly available piece of data, I suppose there is far more on this site which they could justifiably object to, which they kindly haven't.

We are in discussion to continue to provide the service, but are not hopeful.

I agree, to be honest. It should be created for all formats by the BBC. They should be the ones who have to do that, not Console. They are just sad b*stards.

But having it on this site will make it more avaliable to people. More people will use it and listen more hence increase the popularity of the show.

While that maybe true, the only one webMini-Moyles might have changed was the first. webMini-Moyles was primary for people who couldn't have the original, whether this is because it is not their computer or because they don't use windoze, it was never meant as a replacement, just as an alternative.

However, the above is more or less irrelevant as we're fairly convinced that it wasn't the BBC's fault, and it was the creator of the original, who's name I won't publish (although its easy enough to find), that (would have) complained about it.

It wasn't the company that complained. This DID come from the BBC.

I'm sure that one day someone will create a client that people can make use of on their personal machines. This would be something unconnected with chrismoyles.net, and would not make use of any BBC data as-shipped.

But then again surely they'd want people to download the program, or they could have been 'exclusively' signed up to make all of these things.
